Geo: 43.7687, 11.2569Last day in Firenze, both sad and happy, I know all of you women out there understand that state of emotion! Sad to leave an interesting city and also leaving the language school when I have SOOO much still to learn, just a baby in this language for sure. But at the same time happy to get to meet up with a friend and visit other very cool things that will be new and some repeats, but new for Karen. The school was good, everyone else in my class was staying for at least another week some for a month, one for 3 months. There were 3 of us in there in our 50's, which was nice, but it was great being in there with 20 somethings, we were in the same spot in ... read more

Geo: 43.7687, 11.2569Like the title says, only one more day here and I definitely haven't seen it all, did get a major item I've wanted to see checked off and that was the Palazzo Pitti. Amazing place, I am going to upload photos and I"m only uploading about 1/2 of what I took, that's a warning, don't look if you don't want to! I spent 4 hours there and unfortunately didn't get out to the Boboli Gardens if my ticket is still good tomorrow and I have the time I may try to go, but there are 4 other items competing for attention and I know I can't do them all! I guess I'll have to come again ;-) ???Left for school a few minutes later than usual but still plenty of time to get there, ... read more

Geo: 43.7687, 11.2569Another good day in Italia! Same story really got up, had two hard boiled eggs that my hostess has been nice enough to prepare for me. I was really dreading the cornati for breakfast that is the usual fare, she asked what I would like and I mentioned the eggs and she was nice enough to accommodate me, so I have that and a cup of tea in the mornings. I leave the apt. about 8:20 or:25 and it takes 25 minutes to walk to the school. At that time the shops aren't open except for those that serve caffe and the sweets/dolce in the morning. But all the suppliers and delivery trucks are out and about, crowding the streets with their larger vehicles, they wouldn't be able to navigate the streets later probably ... read more

Geo: 43.7687, 11.2569Again, patience with the writing please, maybe I'll get to editing but no promises!Today was a good day, got to the school a few minutes early, it rained the entire walk so even with the umbrella I felt damp. It's not cold but muggy, so you're damp and hot, not a great combo. Everyone has an umbrella at the ready, so different from the Tri-Cities where our umbrellas are hidden in the back of a closet somewhere and you might get it out if it rains but who really bothers when you're just running from the car to the store entrance? Here people are walking who knows how far to get to work or school, riding their bikes in all weather with their kids in tow. Lots of bambini in strollers with plastic rain ... read more

Geo: 43.7687, 11.2569Please don't be too hard on my grammar, spelling, etc.. just did a quick read through and it's pretty rough, but I don't have time to fine tune this thing. It's coming out as I think it.... it's now 11:55 pm, really going to bed. Well, what I expected did happen, I think I'm in Kindergarten, though there is a wide range of knowledge in there. From zero knowledge to more advanced than me, I'm probably in the mid to upper range of kindergarten right now ;-) We all took a test to see where we were to be placed, it was molto difficile... too bad I was too busy with life and getting ready for the trip to study! Anyway, I found time to study tonight, when I actually get to it I ... read more

Geo: 43.7687, 11.2569Went to sleep around 11 or 12 pm, woke up about 4 am, heard some street noise as I'm on the street side, not sure if it was now or earlier... jet lag is weird!.. fell back asleep and didn't get up until 12 noon!! wonderful to get the sleep in, had a leisurely breakfast, shower, etc... nice visit with Nicoletta, since I'm only paying for breakfast (colazione) I'm not entitled to kitchen privileges, so not allowed to buy groceries and use the fridge, etc... that's ok, she was very apologetic about it but that is the school's programme. She is very nice and we had a couple of interesting conversations concerning the immigration problems facing Italy and the US, lots of the same issues. Plus she was telling me the state of Italian ... read more

Geo: 43.7687, 11.2569Well, I just wrote a long description of my day and it disappeared.... not sure where it went will give a recap. If this one doesn't make it then oh well...Had to check my carry on in Amsterdam as it was too large for the city hopper plane, when we arrived in Florence it took 25-30 minutes to make it to the arrival luggage carousel, one of the reasons I don't like checking baggage, I'm too impatient! Anyway after this found the ATM machine and made withdrawals with both cards, went into the bathroom to put on my money belt and put the extra cash, atm cards, cc card, etc... into just in case I'm recognized as a tourista and someone wants to part my money from me they won't get much in my ... read more

Geo: 52.3738, 4.89095Made it across the pond and am now in the lower level of the airport, upstairs all sorts of restaurants, nicely decorated, and down here one vending machine, linoleum or maybe tile floors, hard chairs, and nothing else, not even any gate agents, it's a bit bleak. Am just waiting for my final flight that will take me to Florence, Italy. Sat next to a nice gal from Saskatchewan Canada on the way over, she's going back home to England to help her parents out, her dad was in a car accident, turns out she is a Christian also. Nothing really to report except that I've made it thus far, am using the free wifi at the airport and tried my phone out with it also and it works. Am hoping that I know ... read more

Geo: 46.3282, -119.322Well, my countdown clock says I have 1 day and 4 hours until my trip, actually have a few more hours than that but not too many... Will be leaving this Friday at 7ish am. Am getting ready, still lots to do, but thought I'd practice how to blog and reacquaint myself with how to manage the entries, etc... I have to relearn everything when I don't do something consistently, which reminds me of Language School! That will be my song and dance, best of intentions to study Italian but life gets in the way so I will be back in kindergarten no doubt but I will still enjoy learning the same things over again! After 50 isn't everything new again? Off to continue my packing. See you all later!Wendy... read more

Geo: 8.77457, -82.432Wendy here:Well we got up good and early yesterday (5:30 am) to make the two-hour drive to Boquete and our 9 am appt to tour a 5-hectare coffee farm and then our 1 pm zip line adventure. Lots of road construction that slowed us down a bit but didn't make us late, we arrived in plenty of time to find the offices to check into for of our tours, same company for each but they had several storefronts to serve all the clients using them. We met up with Israel, our coffee farm guide, it was just Jim, myself, Barb, Paul, and another couple. Dan and Kath decided to explore Boquete and find some gardens to wander through and bird watch, we met up with them later for the zip lining. Our guide drove ... read more
