Geo: 48.2179, 16.3829This morning, after a bit of a lie in, we headed off into the city centre. Luckily it's not too far of a walk so off we trotted. Our first port of call was the Stradpark - this was a pretty little park with a pond. We walk through this park and continued the walk on the ring road, until we reached the Karlsplatz. Which housed the first little Christmas market, but we arrived too early and it was still closed. However, there was a beautiful church which was so beautiful and well crafted. Continuing on we passed an opera house which once again was a beautiful grand building. There we arrived at Theresien-platz which in between two gorgeous buildings was the next little Christmas market, this one was open so we browsed the ... read more

Geo: 48.121, 16.5627Here we are again, exploring a new city. Today's excursions were quite limited indeed as we got to the airport and got onto plane with only a small delay. Great flight, a bit turbulent but relatively pain free. Arrived to it snowing (not heavy and not laying as ground was wet). Got to train station and were stumped with a 40 minute wait till the train into the city centre. There was a slight disagreement with the ticket machine by one member of the travel group (prizes for guessing who!) and we took our seat with a warm drink for the wait. Once the train arrived we started our journey into Vienna. Arriving at the station we realised the U-train (metro/subway system) had closed, but luckily the hotel was only a short walk away. ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853This morning, after another delicious breakfast, we headed down to the Port Authority bus station. Today we were off to Woodbury Common - this is a shopping outlet on the outskirts of New York. We bought tickets and boarded the bus, the drive up there gave us beautiful views over the city and gave us that experience of being driven in New York - this was definitely an eye-opener. We arrived at the complex, and got straight to work - this had all the shops: Levis, Superdry, GAP, Adidas, Reebok & Nike and many many more. There were designer shops too, including Micheal Kors but in these shops Nicky was on a strict look and not touch (and definitely not buy) ruling! We shopped and shopped until we were both weighed down by lots ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853This morning after a quick breakfast we got on the subway and headed downtown. We headed down to the new One World Trade Centre as we had tickets to visit the new observatory at the top. Once we waited in the customary New York queue we got inside. There were some really interesting stories about people involved in the planning and construction of the building. The lift to the top showed a cool video depicting the development of Manhattan through the years. The views from the top were outstanding and you could get a 360 degree view of the whole city. We choose a perfect sunny day so visibility was very good.Once we have recovered from the outstanding view, which I don't think you could ever get bored of, we headed out. This took ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853This morning we woke up and headed down for breakfast, and there was definitely some sore heads around (although not ours). Then we wrapped up warm and headed out into Times Square, stopping off on the way to browse the Disney shop. We then walked to try & book a table for dinner before the theatre but they informed us we didn't need to book and instead just turn up. So we hopped onto the Subway and headed downtown, our first port of call was City Hall. Then we got onto the Brooklyn Bridge, this was a really cool bridge to walk along and gave amazing views of the city skyline. The bridge was packed full of people all with the same idea as us, which was frustrating as each one stopped every 10 seconds ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853This morning we woke up ready to face New York on the busiest day of the year. We had a leisurely continental breakfast in the hotel before heading out into the town. We hopped on the subway and headed to Central Park and our first stop was The Woolmans Skating Rink - this was occupied by people who were training and seemed to be professional skaters. They were very enjoyable to watch, but as we didn't want to show the pros up we just stayed as spectators. We walked through the park enjoying the peace and tranquility. We wondered through the park until we reached the Bethesda Fountain and the beautiful Lake. We then crossed over and walked through the Ramble which was a beautiful wooded area. We then stumbled across the Belvedere Castle ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853So today started very early as we had an early flight, so we had to leave Sarah's house at 4am. This was a delicate operation as we had to make sure we didn't wake everyone up (especially Rory). Mission accomplished, we arrived at the airport, and checked in promptly. First stop was to get some much needed coffee and a spot of breakfast at Wetherspoons. We then boarded the plane, and had a brilliant flight and even arrived ahead of schedule. Once at JFK airport and successfully making it through customs we hopped on the AirTrain and Subway to get us to Times Square. Our hotel is just a 2 minute work from Time Square so we checked in, deposited our bags, and headed on our way. We couldn't resist a quick pit stop ... read more

Geo: 37.9833, 23.7333As it was nearing the end of our trip, we decided to have a slow start to the day before heading out, so we had a delicious breakfast and we were on our way. We walked down the grand promenade and negotiated our way into & onto the metro. The metro journey was quite a substantial one, but we were hoping it would be worth the trip. Our destination was the Olympic park from 2004 - we had heard mixed reviews of the site so we were anxious about what we might find. The park was a shock to say the least. The site was massive with a scattering of buildings - most in state of disrepair - but for the most part what caught the eye were the wide open spaces of cracked ... read more

Geo: 37.9833, 23.7333After a peaceful night sleep we had a leisurely breakfast before heading out. This time we decided to head a different way and walked around the Acropolis clockwise. We were surprised that Sunday meant that there was a street market in the area, and there was a lot of stalls selling all sorts of goods. However, we were not to get side tracked, so continued on our trek. We walked the rather busy streets (apparently all of Athens comes out on a Sunday) and headed towards the Central Market. This was a food market Nicky had read about on Trip Advisor, however no-one had mentioned the strong smell of fish so we walked straight passed in a hurried pace. We then reached the National Archeological Museum - which in our travel book has the ... read more
