Well we survived the night and were both up early to move on. After running a few quick errands, we jumped on a bus and headed towards Tamarindo. It's a beach town on the pacific coast that has seen a huge influx of American tourists. There is a ton of development and the town is crowded with prostitutes. I am not a huge fan but my experience wasn't very nice. The day started well as Matt and I found 60usd on the bus so we each got 30. When we arrived in Tamarindo there were many options for hostels so we picked one from the lonely planet and checked in. Tonight is a wet t-shirt contest at a club so we will find the other guys there for sure. Wait! As we are checking in, Morris ... read more

This time we are not going to get ripped off crossing a border! Matt and I packed all our stuff then headed out. With quick stops at the bank and market, we proceeded to barter with all the taxi drivers for a good price to the border. Finally we got one for 5 dollars and three of us hopped in. At the border we almost got taken for the same ticket twice, but got our money back and moved on. The lines were fairly long and the whole process took about two hours hassle free! Instead of waiting for the bus on the other side, we jumped into a cab to Liberia. With six of us, we bartered a six dollar fair. Now that we have arrived in Costa Rica, I am sure my parents are ... read more

What to do today? I awoke after a good sleep with nothing really planned but couldn't find Matt. There is a diner just down the road so I headed there thinking he was already up and about. Nope, couldn't find him so I had a nice breakfast then decided I wanted to surf again today. I signed up for a trip then got all my stuff ready to go. Just as I was about to leave, Matt strolled in. He had been out at a different diner with some friends and didn't get served for a long time. I jumped on the shuttle heading out and Matt caught one an hour later. We met out on the ocean and surfed the day away. It was awesome but neither of us wore a rash guard and paid ... read more

After hearing all the stories, it was time to check out the five star resort up on the hill. We heard that the pools up there were nice and if you acted like you were staying there then you could get in free. We took a leisurely breakfast with a new group of friends then headed off to find the resort. After a long walk up through the resort past many pools and huts, we made it to the top. It was pretty awesome with one pool cascading down some rocks. In the end we were not convincing and they charged us all ten bucks to stay there and swim but it was worth it. We grabbed their towels and long chairs and relaxed on top of the mountain wig a great view over the town. ... read more

Wahoo, I awoke super excited to go surfing today! Matt and I rented our gear (boards and rashguards) and chucked them in the truck. After a quick bite at the market, we were off to Playa Mederas (playa is beach in Spanish). A little nervous because of all the other surfers, we headed to a spot where we could get good waves and not be too near others. Strapping our boards to our ankles we jumped in and started out towards the breaks. When I say we jumped right in there, I mean within five minutes of getting to the beach we were surfing. The first waves came and we jumped up like beginners. The nose end of my board went under sending me flying forward then following that the wave smashed me under. Alright so ... read more

It was time to find out how good San Juan Del Sur, the 'Cancun' of Nicaragua, actually was. Matt and I were up at six to get moving but first we had to grab breakfast at the hostel and boy did I get lucky. I ordered pancakes and they were massive with fried bananas in them, a good start to a day. We jumped into a speed boat and went ripping off to the ferry terminal. From there we crossed to San Jorge and onward to San Juan Del Sur. All this was done by 11:00am so we had a ton of time to explore the town and find good places for food. After checking into Casa de Oro we headed to the market and got huge plates of food for 2.50usd each. Apon arrival back ... read more

Running down a volcano was not on my to do list yet that's what I found myself doing, to my surprise. Matt and I woke up at 6:30am to get ready for our hike at seven. We were going up Volcano Mederas today, the smaller of the two on the island but the one with a better view. Our guide, named Roberto :), met us at seven and along with an american tourist, the four of us headed off (7:20am). After an hour we made it to the base of the volcano and began our accent. Before long it was apperent that our American companion wasn't in very good shape. We were waiting every two hundred meters and as our guide could see, becoming frusterated. Eventually he joined a slower guide and we began again at ... read more

Well Granada was a great place to stay for as log as we did but both Matt and I were ready to move on today. We ate breakfast then headed off to find a chicken bus. After a bit of a walk we found one heading to Revas, a city near our destination of San Jorge. This was probably the most crowded one we have been on, with every seat taken and the aisle full of standing people most of the way. We jumped off just outside of the city and they chucked our bags off the roof to us. Hopping in a cab, we made the quick trip to the ferry terminal in San Jorge where we were hustled onto the boat that left the moment our feet touched it. From there it was an ... read more

Blasted headache! I can't seem to kick it, so again my day is wasted. I spent it almost entirely laying in a hammock sleeping with the odd stir to go get some food. If it were not for Matt's day I would have skipped the day for a blog. Matt went with an Irish friend up Volcan Masaya instead of Spamish school. We are going to try a different one in San Juan I think. I was just too out of it and Matt was on to stuff that was way to advanced and useless. So on with his day, it was a 6km hike up to a number of different craters, some of which were smoking. He got some great photos and looked like he had a great day. His arm is healing as well ... read more

A frusterating day all in all, I woke up with a terrible headache at 7am. Instead of pushing myself to head to Spanish class I decided to sleep in and see if I could get rid of it. Matt headed off for his lessons and told them I wasn't well. When I awoke an hour later, I still had the headache so I took a cold shower and headed to the pool. Most if the day I just slept in a long chair before heading back to our hostel at 4pm. This is where the day gets very interesting. It is pretty gross I warn you. There was a group of us going out to dinner together and a few decided to have quick showers before going, Matt being one of them. For about a month ... read more
