Today was a very casual relaxing day for us. We had a leisurely breadfast of bacon omelets, toast, coffee and more fresh squeezed orange juice. We are getting spoiled with the fresh squeezed juice. The coffee though tends to be a little stronger than what we are accustomed to. After finishing breakfast we walked many of the pathways that meander all through the town. Everyone is filled with shops and lots to look at. When walking around here in the morning hours you need to be cautious because all of the shops and restaurants are getting their deliveries and there is often not enough space for a vehicle and a pedestrian in the path at the same time. The pedestrians need to step into doorways or squeeze to the side to let vehicles past. During our ... read more

Our morning began very early today. In order to catch the 7 o'clock fast boat to Mykonos we were up at 4:30 a.m. We checked out and caught a subway train to the port. It was a nice relaxing ride being able to drink coffee and read. The boat ride lasted three hours and twenty minutes. upon reaching the island we got a taxi which brought us to our hotel Which is lovely with a well kept garden to relax in. I was especially attracted to a gardenia plant which was my mother's favorite flower. I was surprised when the hotel owner later picked one of those flowers and gave it to me. Fond memories! Our afternoon was spent investigating the island. Most everything here is within a walkable distance. There are buses which run to ... read more

Our morning began with a stop at a recommended cafe for breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs, toast, orange juice and Americano coffee. The cafe had large baskets of oranges everywhere. When our juice was served we learned why, since it was fresh squeezed. Also the toast was served with melted cheese on it. Sitting outside enjoying this meal was a great way to begin our day. Our touring began with a stop at Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Zeus which are located within a park. We also visited St. Fontini's Orthodox Church. Visiting the Acropolis was our next destination. It is on a Hill high above the city of Athens. The walk up is quite steep with the paths made of gravel, stone, rock and some pavement. Caution was necessary since much of the ... read more

The start of this vacation had a long drawn out day. We left home yesterday morning and drove to Toronto. Of course we left plenty early just to be on the safe side. We very easily located our parking lot and were shuttled to the airport with a few hours to spare. We always travel with reading material for just this reason. Our flight departed at 8:55 p.m. heading for Copenhagen. We arrived there with an hour and a half layover which was enough time for us to go through customs and find our departure gate to Athens. Both flights were good with very little turbulence. Upon our arrival in Athens we caught a train into the city center where we would find our hotel. We did a little Sightseeing after getting off the metro. We ... read more

I imagine travel, for most people, is a well-planned endeavor. After all it’s important to get the most out of your vacation time. Weeks are spent searching websites trying to find the perfect hotel, flight and attractions. After deciding our destination to Greece, we did seek advice from a travel expert and scrutinized travel brochures. Life would have been simpler by booking a prearranged trip that meets most of your travel dreams. However, we wanted to put in our own personal flavor and learn about the country as we planned and developed details of the perfect trip. We read several books, watched videos, and read other travelers blogs. We now feel our trip will meet our expectations and are becoming anxious for our departure. The next step in our trip preparations is the packing process. We ... read more

After much research on where we might like to travel this year, we set our eyes toward Greece. Greece offers many reasons for which one should visit. We have tried to limit ourselves to the top six reasons. There is no particular order, but the following is a short list for which a traveler should choose Greece as their next destination. Our top reasons to vacation in Greece: 1. The Food. I like being fit but my favorite part of traveling is always trying new foods and pastries, and Greece is the best place to try new foods. Greece is great for meat eaters and vegans alike, as the local diets are abundant in fresh seafood, vegetables, grains, beans and legumes, and of course, meats (mostly lamb, goat, or pork). While you’re there, you can’t miss ... read more

Well we awoke to rain! Did that slow us down? No way! We just put on our rain coats and set out for the day. Thankfully the rain stopped later in the morning and it turned out to be a very nice day, especially since the temperatures were in the 70's. Central Market was our first stop of the day. We always find the markets informative and interesting since the local people shop there and we can determine their interests. There were plenty of meat counters selling chicken, turkey, and duck and very few of them had any beef. Countless vendors were selling all types of sausages both fresh and smoked. Paprika was the spice of choice. It came in all sizes of containers and fresh too. The usual fruits and vegetables were in abundance, all ... read more

What a wonderful morning! Our first stop, after breakfast of course, was the Szechnyi Baths. This was the first 19th century thermal bath in Budapest. It opened temporarily in 1881 and once it became popular a permanent structure was built. Today it is one of the largest public baths in Europe. It resembles a Palace rather than a public bath. There are 15 medicinal pools in the bath complex and 3 huge outdoor pools. There are 10 sauna/steam rooms. The pools are fed by natural springs and 15 of the pools are mineral pools. We experienced several of the thermal pools, a sauna, and two of the outdoor pools. It was very refreshing since the temperatures are again in the mid 90's. After several hours we needed to move on in order to see the other ... read more

We had a leisurely beginning to our day today. We enjoyed a very nice buffet breakfast in the hotel since we weren't catching the train to Budapest until 9:53. The breakfast had many offerings. There were boiled eggs, lunchmeats, cheeses, cereal, cakes, breads, rolls, bacon, ham, pork and beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, juices, coffee, and tea. So much to choose from. Our observation of people not getting early starts to their day was true here too. We were eating breakfast alone until we were ready to leave and then another family came in. When we checked out and got to Hlavne Square we saw mostly just workers. It was such a quiet atmosphere compared to yesterday with all the tourists filling the square. Our train ride to Budapest went smoothly. It took just about two and a ... read more

Today was a day we could have used those bicycle wheels. We covered a lot of territory on foot, first to reach our destination for the night and then all the ground we covered sightseeing. We left our hotel in Vienna before six o'clock to catch an early train to Bratislava. Since we would only be spending one day here we needed to arrive early enough to get in everything we wanted to see. We arrived at our hotel with ease to drop off our luggage and begin out busy day here. We are staying in the heart of Old Town which makes reaching the sights quite easy but there are many to see and involves a lot of walking. Walking is usually not an issue but with 97 degree temperatures it's a little more challenging. ... read more
