Geo: 52.05, -9.51667We started off on the right foot this morning. We were at the right bus station. The ride was shorter today, only 1 1/2 hours. We began under cloudy skies and arrived in the pouring rain. A portion of the morning was spent updating our journal since it was raining and wifi was available in the shopping outlet attached to the bus station. When that was completed we set out in the rain to locate our lodging. Along the way was our lunch stop.It was actually not too far to the hostel. Our trip planning sure paid off today as the distance was quite short. It was located in the center of the city activity. After getting settled we did some reading to wait until the rain subsided. Eventually it slowed down enough to ... read more

Geo: 51.898, -8.47061We had an extra early start this morning. We needed to catch a bus and a tram to connect to a travel coach since we would be moving on to Cork. Much to our surprise buses did not start running early enough for us to make our connections. We took a taxi to the train station which was our mistake since the bus station was several miles away. We quickly caught the tram and got to our correct station with time to spare. The ride from Dublin to Cork took 4 1/2 hours. During our ride we passed many farms. Some were readying land for crops. Others were raising cattle, sheep, and goats. The farm houses were colored green, yellow, or white and made of stucco. Like in the city, the fields and farm ... read more

Geo: 53.3441, -6.26749Day 2 in Dublin was again busy. We started off early this morning, after breakfast at the hostel,to see more of the sites. Merrion Square was our first destination. It's another park in Dublin which contains the National Memorial to members of the Defense Forces. Inside the monument is an eternal flame burning. The park was quite green, flower beds have been readied but the weather still too cold for planting. We covered a lot of ground on foot today to see all that we wanted to view. They weren't spaced far enough to have to catch a bus but quite a hike apart. We moved on to the Dublin Castle. They didn't allow anyone inside. It appeared they were getting ready for the queen's arrival. One whole side of the castle had temporary ... read more

Geo: 53.3441, -6.26749We arrived in Dublin to gray skies and chilly temperatures at 8:30 a.m. We went through customs a and caught the bus to our hostel. Fortunately we met a very nice bus driver. The ride should hve taken 1 hour but lasted 4 hours because of road closings due to a visit by the queen. She hasn't been here since 1911 and had to pick today. The bus driver said she is headed to Cork some time this week, just as we are. We should have checked out our itinerary with her before hand. There are over 4,000 guards on the streets as you can see in some of the pictures. The city is also crowded with thousands of rowdy soccer fans from Portugal. Two teams from there are competing in the finals tonight ... read more

Geo: 42.5991, -82.9312Leaving on a jet plane tomorrow for Dublin so its time to get my things together. Started packing yesterday and thought I was done but Iam coming up with more clothes and objects I feel I need to take. I'll probably be sorry for adding more because we will be carying our gear in a back pack.I Checked in on line with US Airways and downloaded our E-tickets. They changed our seating on the long leg of our flight so Linda and I are now separated for the 6 hr flight over the Atlantic. I'll have to request a seat change at the ticket counter or try asking a favor from other passengers so Linda and I can sit together. Our plans have been developed over the last six months and I am hopeful that ... read more
