Geo: -31.9554, 115.859After a leisurely breakfast we set off for the the journey to the airport but as we joined the main road we could see a road train pulling into to a parking area, Shell couldn't miss the opportunity so we pulled in as well, after a brief chat with the driver and a look around his cab we were off again and enjoyed a straight forward run into Perth for our flight to Melbourne. We dropped the car off at the airport and during their inspection they discovered a chip in the windscreen which was of course going to be subject to an additional charge (although it's covered on my hire agreement I just need to submit their invoice to get it repaid) I was annoyed but not really surprised in view of the amount ... read more

Geo: -28.7731, 114.611Up early again for the dolphin feed but the kids weren't selected to feed them this time but as they both said at "least we've feed them" after a while when the kids had said bye to their friend, the dolphins, and pelicans we left making our way back South to Geraldton which is half way between monkey Mia and Perth. On route we stopped at Eagle Bluff Lookout which features a spectacularly high cliff and a great board walk that overlooks the Denham Sound near Shark Bay from which you can peer down and watch sharks, rays, & Dugong if you lucky. On our last visit in high Summer we saw nothing and shredded the cars rear tyre on the rutted road getting back. This time we were a little luckier Shell spotted ... read more

Geo: -25.7976, 113.691Up early this morning because the dolphins visit the shore around 07:00 by which time a large crowd of people are already listening to the days briefing from the ranger, after which it's down to the water's edge and wait for the dolphins to come in close to be fed. It's changed a lot since the last time we were here, now they feed them 3 times during the morning but they get far fewer fish and the crowd aren't allowed into the water unless they're lucky enough to be chosen to feed the dolphins thereby reducing the amount of physical contact. How lucky are Jacob & Sophie, once again they were selected and so entered the shallow waters to feed the dolphins, that's another tick off their wish list so far so good. ... read more

Geo: -25.7976, 113.691Unfortunately we're leaving Kalbarri for Monkey Mia this morning and we've planned a couple of stops at lookouts on route as well Hamelin Pool to see our very very distant relations!!. We started the morning by all going to the Pelican feed and once again the kids were fortunate enough to be selected once again to feed them much to their delight. After a quick play on the park and a walk around the War Memorial, we made our way up to Chinaman's Point to admire the view despite the wind and then we were ready for the off. Our first stop was Hawks Head Lookout, again access to the lookouts were all off road but nowhere near as bad as yesterdays corrugated tracks, after leaving Hawks Head we backtracked taking the opposite leg ... read more

Geo: -27.6568, 114.395Shell & I were up early as she'd got a horse riding session which I pre booked last year, I did email them before we left Hong Kong to confirm the start time as dependent on the weather it would be 08:00 if it was fine or 09:00 if there was a problem and they promised to email me in advance to confirm the start time. Unfortunately despite another email from me nothing further was heard, not looking good we thought, anyway off we went arriving at the ranch at 07:30 to allow for briefing etc. As we pulled in the place was deserted, there were plenty of horses around but no cars or people; we wander around the stables and accommodation bloc, nothing so back to the car we went with heavy hearts, ... read more

Geo: -27.6568, 114.395On route up to Kalbarri we wanted to take the kids to see the Pinnacles Dessert, we stopped after an hour or so to stretch our legs at a lookout, Shell and Sophie went off first followed by the rest of us it didn't take long before Sophie came running back with her fingers to her lips " come quickly there's a Wallaby just around the corner" sure enough as we rounded the bend in the track there not 4m away was a fully grown Wallaby munching on the vegetation, not a care in the world. Whilst it saw us it took no notice and just carried on feeding, then I spotted two Joeys hiding just off the track. By the time we left we were close enough to touch the mother, what a ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Mandurah July 24th 2016

Geo: -32.533, 115.733Had a pleasant drive down to Mandurah and spent a good couple of hours walking around the marina with the kids enjoying themselves looking round the shops and indoor market enjoying all the new and wonderful toys and novelty things to be found. We had a wonderful meal in the Catch 22 restaurant on Dolphin Quay, after which we strolled down to the beach where Jacob & Sophie had fun on the sand. After a while Sophie enticed Shell down to the beach were they both had great fun, with Shell helping Sophie to do cartwheels on the beach. After a brief rest the kids made their way across to the park so they could use all the exercise equipment. We'd never been to Mandurah before, it's a pleasant and vibrant place so I'm ... read more

Geo: -31.9554, 115.859We arrived in Perth at 05:30 after a a journey of 4125 mls and a change of plane in Singapore. Sophie had gone to a lot of trouble to make a copy of her passport for her favourite cuddly toy (Lola) which she took with her, as we approached the customs desk she presented Lola's passport and the young girl at the desk was taken back by the effort Sophie had put into making the passport and duly stamped the passport for her; Sophie was over the moon. Having cleared customs we decide to have breakfast at the airport, after which we went to the car hire desk to pick up our car which was stated to be a Nissan X-Trail or similar, 9 months before making the booking I rang the company in ... read more

Geo: 22.2855, 114.158After a pleasant 3:25 flight we arrived on time at 12:40 and as we made our way to arrivals and baggage collection there was a notice board with our name on it asking us to go to customer services (what now I thought) anyway it turned out our baggage didn't get put on the plane and it would be put on the next flight and be delivered later that evening, it's not the first time it's happened so we weren't too bothered until we realised we had all our heavy clothing on and with us as we were close to the baggage limit and it's 31c outside. Anyway after clearing customs we made our way by shuttle to our hotel, and had a couple of hrs sleep before setting out for our planned evening ... read more

Geo: 1.35208, 103.82After the 12hr 45min flight we landed at Changi airport for the connecting flight to Hong Kong, fortunately it was only an hour and a half's wait which we thought would gave us plenty of time to stretch our legs. It certainly did that it took the best part of 20 minutes to exit the plane and then make our way to the transfer lane. When we arrived the general information board informed us it was a 20 -25-minute walk to our gate, well we certainly stretched our legs and arrived barely 10 minutes before the gate opened for boarding.... read more
