I left the hotel at 10am this morning to make my way to the airport. I was able to easily walk to the platform with the fast train and didn't have to wait long for the next one. The trip to the airport only took about 20 minutes so I arrived in plenty of time to check my bag in (just under 20kg) and spend some time browsing the shops. My flight was due to depart at 1:10pm so I had plenty of time. Then of course it was slightly delayed but that didn't bother me too much. The flight ended up leaving about 30 minutes late but was quite ok. I was flying with Norweigan airshuttle and they don't provide any food and drinks - but you can purchase on board. I bought a roll ... read more

This morning we were heading off on a tour to explore Oslo at 10am - I love these 'reasonable' start times to the day! We met our local guide (oops, I couldn't pronounce her name so I have no hope in spelling it) and we hopped on our our private mini-bus. We headed up to Ekebergparken Sculpture Park on the southeastern side of the city and our guide, let's call her Sue, pointed out key buildings and areas along the way. Oslo is another city that is booming with infrastructure improvements and this was very obvious along the way. This sculpture park is relatively unknown to the tourists so we were really fortunate to be able to explore it with only a few locals in the park with their kids, for a Sunday morning outing. There ... read more

Happy birthday Kellie! I awoke before my alarm this morning due to the banging that was going on next door. It seemed to me that the room was being cleaned - annoying! I pulled the curtains back and saw that it was raining outside so I knew I didn't need to rush to get up this morning. It was nice being able to hop back into bed for a while and stay under the covers. Eventually I got up to shower and head down to breakfast. As we didn't need to check out of our rooms until 11 this morning, I decided to give Kellie a call for her birthday after breakfast. It was so lovely to be able to see her and speak to her, as well as Jed, Grace and Fay. I was just ... read more

Today our journey started at 8am - and what a day it was! We walked to the train station for the first part of the journey, our train from Bergen to Voss at 8:45am. When we arrived the queue for the train was enormous but we lined up with all the other tourists. Once we were in the train I managed to snag a window seat. The train ride takes about an hour and I really enjoyed the view out the window as it was very picturesque with it mountains, waterfalls and rivers as well as the homes and farms along the way. On arrival in Voss, we were sheparded onto buses for the next part of the journey - our trip to Gudvangen. Gudvangen is a little port with the primary (probably sole) purpose is ... read more

This morning we were doing a walking tour of Bergen and needed to meet our local guide at 10am. This meant plenty of time to hbae breakfast and get ready. Our guides name is Olga and she is from Russia but is married to 'a viking'! It was raining again this morning but I had my wet weather gear on, so was feeling quite comfortable. As usual, the first thing anyone tells you is just how much it rains in Bergen. Olga told us rains on 280 days of the year, which is more than what I said in my blog yesterday. I've been here two days now - and it has rained on both haha. We started our walk towards the harbour and Olga shared interesting information along the way. It was challenging for her ... read more

I have decided that I really enjoy being on, and sleeping on, a ship! I had a very good sleep last night but was rudely woken by my alarm at 8am! After a slow start, I got up and showered and sorted out my bag, as I needed to be out of my cabin by 10. I headed down to Deck 4 in search of some breakfast - wow, that was crazy! I must have gone there in peak time, as it was hard to find a spot to sit. Eventually I bumped into Felicia and she had a seat at her table so I joined her. The food selection was great and I had porridge with dried fruits, nuts and yoghurt. Coffee was ok and also orange juice. Back to my cabin and I finished ... read more

The hotel we are staying in (Scandic Nidelven) has won many awards for having the best breakfast in Norway. I can understand why! I think this is the best breakfast buffet I have ever seen! To be honest, I wish my stomach let me eat more at breakfast, as I just did not do this spread justice! I managed to have a freshly squeezed vegetable (green) juice, a really good coffee (rare!), homemade muesli which i added fruit, nuts and seeds to and a juice 'shot' that contained ginger. I also made myself a ham and cheese rolls for my lunch. We checked out of the hotel at 9 and made our way to the port as we were boarding the MS Finnmarken (of the Hurtigruten line) for an overnight stay, whilst we sailed to Bergen. ... read more

As we needed to leave the hotel at 7:30 this morning, I was up at 6:15 to get ready and have breakfast. We had a short walk to the station, as we are staying in it! Our train was due to depart at 8:04 and we were there in plenty of time. Once on board and bags were stowed, we could settle in to enjoy the journey. Our trip to Trondheim would take six and a half hours so there was lots of time to chill. The scenery along the way was simply stunning - we travelled alongside the biggest lake in Norway for quite a while and then at other times there would be fast flowing rivers alongside the train and mountains either side. The train had wifi on board and I enjoyed catching up ... read more

6:30 start today as my taxi was picking me up at 7:45 for my trip to the airport. The weather is miserable - cold, windy and raining so I feel the time is right to leave Iceland. Beautiful, stunning and very dramatic and I feel I have done it justice. The trip to the airport took about 20 minutes so I arrived just over 2 hours before my flight - to find out the flight was delayed. Reykjavik airport is very modern and very busy! Time was killed and then I headed to the gate for my flight to Oslo. I was flying with Norwegian airlines - it has a touch of the JetStars about it. The flight was over 2 hours and there was also a time change so I arrived at Oslo around 3pm. ... read more

A lazy start to the day, although I did have to pack my bags as I was moving to a new hotel day. i went down for breakfast at 9:00am and enjoyed the fact that I didn't need to rush today. After breakfast I finished my packing and headed down to check out at 11:15, as I needed to get to the #10 bus stop by 11:30 for my transfer to the Blue Lagoon. Today the weather has turned cold and there is the Icelandic mist - not quite rain but you still get wet! I waited for a while at the bus stop and eventually the bus arrived. This bus just transported us to the main bus station, where we then had to get the bus to the Blue Lagoon. I arrived at the Blue ... read more
