Happy birthday Grace Whelan - 17 today! I didn't set an alarm this morning so when I woke around 8:30 I remembered the AFL Grand Final had already started. I opened the AFL app to see the Magpies and Eagles were exactly even at 3/4 time. Checking out how the game had gone until this point made me grateful I had slept through the first 3 stressful quarters especially with the Eagles conceding the first 5 goals! Anyway, as anyone who follows the sport will know, the end result went the Eagles way by 4 points but not after a truly sensational/stressful last quarter. So cheers to all my family & friends who are Eagles supporters and commiserations to all my friends who are Magpies supporters (that would be you Lisa ?). Now that's over - ... read more

Happy birthday to me!! After being woken by my phone ringing at 4:20am and then 5am (thanks Dan & Raelene haha ?), I still managed to sleep until just after 8am. Then I was excited to turn my phone back on and check all the birthday messages from family and friends around the world. Feeling totally loved ♥️♥️ Had a great long chat with Clare which was so lovely. I got an awesome (reasonable hour!) call from Daniel, Raelene, Marcel, Xavier and Vasana who were driving north to Coral Bay (hence their early morning attempts when they still had reception). They were just at the Overlander roadhouse so had reception but unfortunately I lost them after awhile as they headed into the great unknown (or far as the internet is concerned!!). Also got a wonderful video ... read more

Happy birthday to my nephew Ben who turns 18 today! ????? Today was another slow start and I eventually headed to the beach. I decided to walk a different way and it was almost like doing one of the Cinque Terra treks again (but a much shorter, not as hot and humid, version) I spent most of the day down the beach and today all I had for lunch was french fries and a beer haha. Around 5ish I walked back to the apartment and showered before heading to the old town. I decided to walk up to the Town Fortress so i could be there for sunset. The fortress dates back to the 16th century and is a very commanding site that overlooks the old town of Hvar. I was pleased to be able to ... read more

After sorting out apartments this morning, I moved across into the one with the balcony and sea view. Very nice little spot as I look out over a mini orchard - in the backyard of other places here. Once I was settled in, I decided to walk along the coast in search of a beach to spend some hours at. The coastline is stunning with lots of rocks along the way, until you come around a corner and see a beautiful bay. I walked past the first one as I knew there were several more further along a rocky bush path. Each one I came to was more beautiful than the last but in the end I stopped at one called Robinson's. I hired a sun bed as the beach was all stones, and it only ... read more

Happy birthday to my niece Vasana who is 9 today! Another travel day! Up at 6:15 to pack and get ready for the day. Taxi was due to arrive at 7 as I wanted to be at the airport at 7:15 - my flight to Geneva was due to depart at 9:15. I watched the clock count down the minutes after 7 with no taxi arriving. The lady at reception called them at my insistence and it was always "2 minutes" away. He finally arrived at 7:15 then drove like a bat outta hell ! I had been told it would only take 15 minutes to get to the airport but of course it took longer than that, even though this guy probably broke quite a few rules to get there when he did. When we ... read more

Another lazy start to the day - I'm starting to get used to this and will be in for a rude shock tomorrow when I need to be at the airport by 7:15 lol. Headed down to the Point in Sliema for a morning swim. It was occasionally overcast today but when the sun came out it really had a bite to it. I enjoyed my time swimming the length of the 'pool' and taking the occasional view of Valletta in. After swimming and sunning for the morning, I headed back to my apartment, stopping along the way to have an espresso macchiato. After showering I headed out again to meet up with friends of Clare & Pete's - Mary & Peter. They were delivering a lens that's Clare was lending me to replace the one ... read more

It was a lazy Sunday morning for me today. I didn't have any plans so had decided to just take the day as it comes. I ended up venturing out around 11:30 and was wandering a bit aimlessly to start as I couldn't decide if I was hungry or not or what I felt like eating if I was! All I knew was I needed a coffee lol. I started walking toward's Giorgio's when I saw the Valletta ferry approaching so decided to jump on that and then work it out. When I got over to Valletta I went to get a macchiato from a cafe near the wharf and saw they also did toasted sandwiches so I asked for a ham, cheese and tomato sandwich. The service was terrible as they kept serving locals before ... read more

This morning I met up with my cousin Rosie and second cousin Lucas at Giorgio's for breakfast. It was also an exciting morning because the Eagles were playing the Demons in the prelim final and the match was well underway when I woke up! Daniel was in Amsterdam so we were 'chatting' throughout. i could safely leave the apartment to meet up with Rosie & Lucas by three quarter time lol. It was so lovely to see them! Lucas had only arrived at about 1:30 this morning (from London) as his flight had been delayed. We enjoyed a nice breakfast and especially enjoyed the coffee this cafe served! We chatted about what we all wanted to do while we are here and decided we would jump in a ferry and explore some of Valletta and then ... read more

I set my alarm this morning as I wanted to make the most of my time before I had to check out at midday. There must have been a storm during the night as when I looked out the window, the water was stirred up and it didn't look as nice as the previous days. It was also a bit cooler, only 23 degrees. I still put my bathers on though and headed downstairs for a quick breakfast. After eating I walked along the bay but it was obvious the water was murky this morning and there was a fair bit of leaves and rubbish floating in it. Not at all appealingly. So I decided to go for a good walk along the coast and found myself heading towards the Xlendi tower. This tower was built ... read more

Those earplugs worked a treat! I did wake at 4am though with a cramp in my leg. After dealing with that I got up to look outside, as I knew thunderstorms were predicted for today. I had heard a very loud clap of thunder (through the earplugs) sometime earlier, so I wanted to see what the impact had been. The sea was quite high and there were even small waves washing up the steps in front of the hotel, which was interesting. The next morning I could see one of the restaurants hosing down their floor so I assume the water came up that high. After breakfast I chatted to the guy at reception about options for today. I wanted to see the Citadel but was also interested in a boat trip of some sort. There ... read more
