Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236I love the flight back to London, another long haul but fantastically smooth with seamless landing. I don't know how the pilots manage to land these planes to the extent your not sure if your down or not yet because you've felt no bump.... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42I love it here! I've never been to America before and it's not as shiny as I thought. All those dodgy 70's styles are still here today, I thought it would have been more like home for some reason but it just adds to the appeal. I feel like I'm staying at the Cunningham's from the 70's TV show Happy Days!I love the diner's, the cable cars, the dodgy crooked Lombard Street which is where we're staying. The trams, and cables above, the bay and marina, the parks, the Golden Gate Bridge, Salsilito and back via Alcatraz. I'm glad I got to spend around a week here, I can't believe how lucky I am to have clear views of the Golden Gate bridge. I love walking over the bridge, stopping watching boats and ferries ... read more

Geo: -36.8474, 174.766We flew to Auckland from Christchurch, and before I know it we're checked into our hotel and heading out to explore. We only have a few days here before heading on to San Francisco. There is a huge tower just down from our hotel which houses a huge casino complex. It dominates the skyline in Auckland and you can even climb up and walk round the edge of it, not me though it's got a glass bottom and your harnessed from above, would be like walking on nothing. We enjoy the area and the casino, pretty much breaking even and we even manage a boat trip out to the other side of the bay to explore. It really isn't a long enough stay but I enjoy what time we have here before heading on.... read more

Geo: -43.5316, 172.637We head back to Christchurch for a few days before heading to the North Island in New Zealand. Just spend some family time and really enjoy seeing the progress already that wee Amber is making, she really is adorable and I'm totally hooked! I have really enjoyed seeing my sis and her hubbie and meeting my new niece, it was definitely the best plan to come over to see them, I would have regretted not coming.Amber loves her blanket I crocheted which I'm delighted at, she is so content and happy and brings so much joy it's hard imagine life before she was born. I'm so incredibly proud of Diane planning and having a home birth, and delighted that it all worked out the way they wanted it too, John has been her rock ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Lake Tekapo September 9th 2010

Geo: -44.0074, 170.483The drive here was breathtaking... The snow capped mountains and huge lakes, beautiful! I picked up a couple of girls on route who were hitch hiking, lucky for them I was heading to Lake Tekapo and I took them the whole way there.Diane had booked a house for us all to stay in, it was really big and reasonably priced. Raymie and I got a lovely big room, so did Diane and John and all upstairs was the kitchen, dining and living space, nice balcony and BBQ as a bonus. We went down to the lake which is stunning, and the reflection of the mountains on the lake is picturesque. There's a church out on the lake, the Church of the Good Shepherd, with the most stunning backdrop mountain scenery. On the way back ... read more

Geo: -45.0311, 168.663It was a beautifully scenic drive down from Franz Josef via Wanaka, to Queenstown today. It reminds me of Aviemore a bit, everyone is organising their ski hire and trips to the mountains and it has a real buzz about it. There's lots of cute wee shops and all the adventure gear you could ever think of, is for sale. It's set on a lake and is a lovely spot, there is a gondola that takes you away up the mountain to the ski resorts, you can also do bungee jumping, or go carting or mountain biking, but we opt for the trip up and have lunch at the viewpoint. You get an amazing view the whole way to behind Millford Sound from here. We head off to the top of the lake the ... read more

Geo: -43.3891, 170.182Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers were amazing, the glaciers aren't far from each other and Mount Cook sits behind them from here. The first morning we book a helicopter flight to view the glaciers and even have a snow landing! They took our details including weight, which I guess was to balance things out, but I was really quite a bit nervous about the flight, thankfully I had no time to think about it as we just had time to grab our jackets then we were off to the airstrip.I didn't realise it at the time but there was a plane crash at this airstrip just a few days beforehand killing all 6 on board, I heard about it on the news but hadn't made the connection with this part of the island until ... read more

Geo: -43.5316, 172.637After an early flight I was looking forward to seeing Diane and meeting my new niece Amber Rose. Diane met us at the airport and when we saw each other we both burst into tears…. It had been such a long time since I had seen her and she had been through so much out here with her husband, having a new wee baby. It was wonderful to meet Amber she's just adorable, so I introduce Raymie to my sis and niece and we set on our way. The first few days I just get acquainted with amber and really enjoy every minute with the family, Diane and John take us out and about, and its funny getting Raymie in and out of their car, its quite a low sporty number so he finds ... read more

Geo: -27.4676, 153.028 It's a short flight down to Brisbane, and we get a taxi up to our hotel. After a quick wander down the main street I called my cousin to arrange visiting. To my surprise it's her daughters birthday and we end up invited out to a lovely French restaurant for dinner before going for drinks in the bohemian part of town. Raymie dons his kilt and I dig out a dress and we're no sooner ready than her husband arrives to pick us up. It was lovely meeting this part of the family again, it had been such a long time since I saw them. So we talk of family and get reacquainted and as they're all into their music it's ideal for Raymie to give lots of chat and advice. This is ... read more
