Hi All, We woke up this morning freezing! The temperature has definitely dropped to single degrees and it makes it worse when you go from a powered site with heat blasting in all night to nothing. We had planned to have a walk around Taupo Centre today; they have shops and loads of restaurants, all on the edge of the huge Lake. Neil nearly won $10,000 dollars on a golf hole in one on the beachfront, he hit the flag but it didn’t stay on so he was so close!!! (That money would have been nice) We had also planned to see what the weather was like to decide whether or not to do that sky dive that got cancelled the other day. By 11am, the weather was perfect: sunny with a little cloud. We decided ... read more

Hello Bloggers and everyone else, Today we had a very early wake up for us of 6.30am. We had paid the $30 shuttle bus to pick us up from the Tongariro Holiday Park at 7.10am. We had porridge for breakfast, and packed our bags full of water, pasta, snacks, sun cream and warm clothes then headed off on the bus 30 minutes down the road to the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (19.4km). The weather was perfect, a little cloud that got heavier when up at the top, but we had great views of Mount Doom and all around. The walk was hard work for the first 3 hours, all up hill with some slippery rocks, ice and snow towards the top. The photos should speak for themselves. It was spectacular, particularly around the Emerald ... read more

Hello Friends, countrymen and Bloggers, We woke up cold again, we can’t believe the temperatre drop between the south and north islands. We had a nice breakfast of bacon sandwiches and headed off to the airport. We had booked up a sky dive today and were both really excited and nervous about it. We had also booked up to get our van fixed after so we had a busy day. We got to the airfield and checked in, sorted out what package we wanted and were all ready and excited, we got into our suits, harnessed up and were all ready. We boarded the little prop plane and within 30min were up to 15,000ft, this is where it went wrong!!! The wind got up and was over the maximum speed so had to come back down ... read more

Hi Everyone, We woke up to a load of people outside our van all getting ready for a run; we unfortunately didn’t have the energy!! We had a quick breakfast of cereal then headed off to our next destination of Tongariro. This was a long drive around 400km!! We still had the issue with our grey water tank (grey water funnels into the shower room making it stink, and also leaks out onto the ground outside!) so on the way we phoned up Britz and they agreed that we could get into trouble if the tank keeps emptying into the street so they said to stay at a site with cooking and shower facilities and they would reimburse it when we return the van. We first drove to Tongariro as we wanted to do the Alpine ... read more

Hello People, We woke up at Watsons Way Campsite and backpackers. I had a horrible headache! We showered, had bacon sandwiches for breakfast, and then played (tried too) tennis. Not for long as I really did feel yuck from yesterdays wine antics! We updated our phones before heading to the ferry terminal at around 9am. However I received an email from the Picton ferry terminal saying that our ferry had been cancelled due to bad weather at sea, and that we would now have a new departure time of 2pm. It’s a great set up as it meant we wouldn’t be hanging around waiting at the terminal. So we left the campsite about 10.30am. We drove to Pak n Save before the terminal for a few feel better/healthier luxuries-avocado, fruit smoothie, jerky and grapes. We arrived ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Blenheim May 15th 2015

Hello Everyone, We woke up in the Taylor Dam free campervan site, a really quiet place and of course we didn’t have the worries of being fined in the morning. We drove back into Blenheim to go to the I-site to pick up a wine map and to see the best way of doing the open cellar doors with bikes and where to park up. The lady at the I-site was very informative and booked everything up for us. We had a few options but most didn’t cater for the fact that we needed to park up where we could stay for the night, as I wouldn’t be able to drive again after all the wine! So the best, and in fact cheapest option was to book into ‘Watsons Way’ campervan site and backpackers. This was ... read more

Hello People, We arrived in Kaikoura, we wanted to do a whale site seeing tour and a Maori Culture experience but they were about £70 each per person so we decided against it in this place. The whales would have been good but we have seen them out at sea from the ship; and we can always do the Maori culture up north, which will hopefully be cheaper. We walked around the town and had fish and chips for lunch. About 1pm we drove up the coast to Ohua peninsular to see so many seals laid out all up the coast for miles, the pictures are good. We headed on further north until we reached Blenheim at about 1430, we parked up in Countdown supermarket and went over to library to get Wi-Fi and charge the ... read more

Hello All, We woke up after a ropey sleep, we both kept waking up worried we might get a parking ticket but luckily in the morning the windscreen was clear!!! We looked what was about and found there was a cheap swimming pool close, this ticks off two things, 1 exercise and 2 a shower as it seems like an age since our last one. It was a nice pool, they had hot hydrotherapy pools and a few lanes in the swimming pool, and it was good to have a swim. (Vick loved the hot pools and stayed in there the whole time!!). We showered and both were happy and clean!! We arrived in Christchurch about 1030 and had to park out of the main city as it was free, still and good 2km walk in. ... read more

Hello People, We woke up nice and early and found the weather was warm as there was no condensation in the van for once!! We headed inland today to drive to Mount John and Lake Taipo. We got amazing pictures on the way up, however once up there the weather changed so quickly and fog covered us within minutes. We stayed at the top for a while to have some lunch and read (hoping for the weather to go as quick as it came in…it didn’t!!). We drove to local hot pools which are mentioned in lonely planet books, however they were not natural and looked more like a cheap outside swimming pool so decided not to do them also the were $22 each. We decided to get as close to Christchurch so we headed to ... read more

Hi Friends Family and Bloggers, A man from the Council knocked on our camper door at 7.30am to ask us to be on our way by 8am woke us up again this morning!!! (URRRHH). There were two other campers parked up too. We left just before 8am and headed into the center of Dunedin; we tried to park in the free spot like we did yesterday but being a Monday these were already taken. So we drove a few roads away from the center to find another free residential road. We then walked into town, it was about 1.5km but easy walking distance for us; Neil bought a subway breakfast as not much was open and there was not much food for breakfast in the van, he gave me his free cookie he received after filling ... read more
