Woke up well rested. Katrina & Josh’s friends were visiting on vacation. We all went to the science museum, OMSI, except for Elan & Eric who did not want to see the Body Works 3 exhibit. The rest of us had a good time and the exhibit was very interesting to see. Got home and had a snack then Elan & I hit the road. We decided to head west towards Tillamook. Drove slowly and enjoyed the scenery. We toured the Tillamook Creamery, had some ice cream, bought some cheese and then headed up the coast. Little towns along the way were very picturesque. The coast was absolutely beautiful. Some of the areas reminded me of the east coast when I drive up to Camp. We found a motel in one of the places. The ... read more

not sure what happened when I was putting all the lost blogs back up but this is the rest of the entry from UT to AK... Day Five, Monday, July 2, 2007 Back on the road again, traveling with my son again, he’s in the driver’s seat again… He says I had a chance to drive and I failed; guess I just could not go fast enough. Of course the fact that it was night and one could not see too far ahead has nothing to do with it? We are on our way north again toward Salt Lake City, UT. Going through desert with mountains around us. This car, Honda Civic, is quite nice for traveling in, lots of leg and headroom. We haven’t had too much construction on the road either or too much ... read more

Day Four, Sunday, July 1, 2007 Woke up refreshed and ready to begin a new day of travel! The hotel offered a continental breakfast, just like at the hotel we all stayed at for Molly’s graduation, complete with waffles, but Belgian ones this time not the four little ones. Very tasty too! Came back to the room to get ready to leave and Elan lied down and promptly fell asleep! The room was too hot, for him, last night when we got in so he turned the AC on but only put it on high fan not the cooling part. One must also direct the vents to go out into the room, not up into the curtains. With the room cool enough for him he can sleep some more. Me? I’m sitting as far from the ... read more

Day Three, Saturday, June 30, 2007 Had a wonderful visit with Tod & Nancy lat night and today. They gave us lots of good suggestions where and how to get to Salt Lake. We decided to stop in Garden of the Gods first. Called Jessica and she met us there. After we found her we parked and did a very short hike around the huge red rocks. Jessica was a great guide and gave us lots of information about the place. The Garden of the Gods had lots of other tourists but not too many, weather was fantastic, warm and dry, I loved it! Walked behind some Israelis for a bit, fun to hear Hebrew. One mother had a 23-day-old baby who was very cute, but very hot. A couple of dogs running around, one rabbit, ... read more

Day Two, Part Two, Friday, June 29, 2007 Funny, we can keep in contact through the internet at a rest stop in the middle of who knows where… says Elan, in reference to our previous observation of calling while on the road to AK and to MA. Crossed the border into Colorado. Scenery is still the same. Elan is rather disappointed that we are not seeing mountains yet, he wanted them to be there as soon as we crossed the border. Oh well, the 75 MPH speed limit has made up for it he says. Maine license plate is mine! Indiana is mine too! Though to be fair to Elan he does spot more than I do as he is driving and I am enjoying the scenery, which as you know by now still has not ... read more

Friday, June 29, 2007 Woke up and left Hays around 10:30ish after having sandwiches for breakfast. The only difference today in regards to the view is that it is sunny, other than that it is still flat farmland. Today seems more beautiful though, maybe because we are getting used to the view? I do like mountains though and there is not much water around either… Much easier to tell the difference between cattle and bales of hay in the sun too! Thank you for the clarification Susan! Elan: “We couldn’t have done it without you Aunt Susan!” ☺ Also bales of hay are brown while the cattle are sometimes brown but often white or black! Lots of fields of corn everywhere. We read that Interstate 70 is Main Street, USA. It goes from Washington, D.C. to ... read more

Captains Log 34553234 My Mother will not fall asleep. Tomorrow night I will drug whatever she eats to knock her out earlier. She says it's "only 6 hours to Colorado Springs Elan".... but if you start at 12 in the afternoon "only" is quite a ways off. PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE HER GO TO SLEEP!!!!!! Take care, Elan... read more

June 26, 2007-June 27, 2007 Arrived at the ANC airport in good time. Though we did not pay attention to which terminal, north or south. Went to south first and of course we had to go back to the north one for Continental. More signs would have been nice. Took advantage of curbside baggage check in which was rather nice. Once I got in the airport there were many people in the building. Stood in line for a bit before getting through, had to put gels, pastes and liquids into my small ziploc while standing in line, forgot to do that at home. Now I'm waiting with so many people, so many in fact we are sitting on the floor lining the hallway. All seats are taken. I wonder where people are all headed? I suppose ... read more
