In the middle of the night I woke up feeling sick….I think its something I ate. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep. Feel a little better this morning. Had my latte and nothing else. Ken ate cheerios. We took our time packing up. We only have 125 miles to travel today to get to Lake Powell. We will definitely come back here. A great place to come to get out of the hot Tucson summer. We didn’t see the buffalo on the way out. A deer ran in front of our car; a few seconds different in timing and we would have hit him. Listening to ‘Summer Wind’ by Frank Sinatra. Love it! When I listen to him, I sometimes still can’t believe he is dead. The drive to Lake Powell is so gorgeous. ... read more

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon sits atop Kaibab Plateau at 8,000-9,000 ft above sea level. I read and found out what the white barked trees are; they are white barked aspens. The North Rim and South Rim are only 10 miles apart as the raven flies but over 200 miles if driving. The North Rim is less crowded as most visitors go to the South Rim. It is also cooler here. We first went to the Campstore and found out they had wireless, so I updated the blog. While there, Ken, of course starts chatting with a couple. He asks Ken if either of us are good with computers and Ken says-oh, yes, my wife is. Just what I wanted to do, right? Of course, I said I would try to help him, but ... read more

We slept so comfortably with all the windows open, nice and cool. We woke up to a gentle rain. We put up the awning and drank our lattes as the gentle rain came down. There is something so relaxing and peaceful listening to the rain. I even got a blanket and wrapped around me…it was 64 degrees. I then took a nice, hot shower and then we fixed breakfast. Bacon and eggs on the outside grill. As we ate, we watched the little ground squirrels. We crushed some crackers and spread them on the ground. There is one fat one, he’s twice the size of all the others and he chased them all off. Can’t they all just get along and share? It’s so quiet here, except for the sound of crows squawking or the wind ... read more

Just got finished updating the blog at Starbucks. While using their wireless and drinking my latte, I was eavesdropping, which I love to do. My son Josh and I would always eavesdrop wherever we were. I once heard a man break up with his wife at a restaurant. She was begging him and he was saying it was over, while eating his pasta and drinking his wine. It was very sad. Anyway, I could hear a conversation between this young kid and a female worker—she was probably around 34, he looked around 28. He first was talking about the fact he was leaving on vacation tonight with his girlfriend—they’re going to Vegas—‘and she’s paying for it,,,ha, ha,ha, he said. Then he started complaining about his child support for his two kids. He said he thinks it’s ... read more

Ken got up at 5:30 and began getting the RV ready to go---without making too much noise. I told him to wake me at 6:30. I woke up about 6:15. We packed up and left the park at 7:30. Before we left we bought the book, “Who Pooped in the Sonoran Desert?” for Bella. She saw it when we came here last February. It teaches kids to identify animal scat and tracks. “We’re going to stop at Safeway/Starbucks to get some coffee and use their wireless network. I don’t know if the North Rim will have any wireless availability so I don’t know when I will be able to update the blog. If not there, perhaps Lake Powell. ... read more

We stopped at a Goodwill store to buy some old shorts to put over our ‘expensive water shorts’ because a ranger told us that Slide Rock will ruin our pants. We quickly found 2 pairs for $3.00 each; kind of expensive really. They’re ugly. We drive to Slide Rock, 10 minutes north of Sedona. It really is beautiful. It’s like a natural water park. The water is so cold it takes your breath away; the sign says the water is 65 degrees. Ken decided to try the ‘slide’ first—he would then let me know if it was too rough for me. I watched him and quickly decided I didn’t want to do it. It looked kind of rough—I didn’t want to make a scene. We went down to the area that is like a swimming pool. ... read more

Ken got up around 6am, it was 64 degrees. Miguel did not come over, so I guess ‘seniorita’ said no fishing. Ken was going to go anyway but realized he had forgotten to put his bait into his new tackle box. He had been using a tackle box that he got when he was 16. Jason (our middle son) bought him a new one for his birthday. Ken and I have been married for almost 31 years and he has never caught a fish using his own equipment. He has caught fish while deep sea fishing in Florida. I got up around 7:30. It was 72 degrees….very nice. We drank coffee, ate cereal while watching a bunny rabbit munch on grass. We relaxed a while and then decided to take a nap. I know…that’s pathetic..but it’s ... read more

We got on the road about 10 am, after loading up, getting ice, etc. Ken had bought a spare gas can and filled it up, keeping it in the bed of the truck. We could smell gas…it was leaking. Everything you buy these days is ‘green’, the gas can being one of those things. It doesn’t have a vent on it because allowing the fumes to escape in to the air is not good…so instead the gas expands and forces gas out of the top of the container, spilling gas (and allowing fumes to escape!!) all over the back of the truck bed. He is not happy….even after pouring some of the gas out (thus thinking extra space will allow expansion), it still leaked. So we stop at a rest area, outside of Chandler, AZ ... read more

We should be leaving in about an hour.....just need to finish my coffee, take a shower. I really enjoy taking my time in the morning when I don't have to go to work. Our drive to Cottonwood should only take about 3 hours so we don't need to rush. It's supposed to be 110 in Tucson this weekend...it should be a little cooler up north..hopefully!... read more
