RV Trip pics 002
Ken emptying the gas from the 'green' container into the truck We got on the road about 10 am, after loading up, getting ice, etc. Ken had bought a spare gas can and filled it up, keeping it in the bed of the truck. We could smell gas…it was leaking. Everything you buy these days is ‘green’, the gas can being one of those things. It doesn’t have a vent on it because allowing the fumes to escape in to the air is not good…so instead the gas expands and forces gas out of the top of the container, spilling gas (and allowing fumes to escape!!) all over the back of the truck bed. He is not happy….even after pouring some of the gas out (thus thinking extra space will allow expansion), it still leaked. So we stop at a rest area, outside of Chandler, AZ and empty the container into the truck. He throws the container out. So, we’re back on the road again. We’ll be going through Phoenix soon; the traffic shouldn’t be bad this time of day. It’s windy and we can feel it moving the RV. It’s 104 outside now.
We see an IN and OUT and we have to stop for lunch. If you haven’t had

Our RV, 29 ft long one of their burgers, I highly recommend it. I think they are only in Arizona and California. We get a cheeseburger, animal style which means add sautéed onions. They don’t have the onions on the menu; you have to ask for them.
We arrive in Cottonwood around 2 pm. We are staying at Dead Horse Ranch State Park, about 30 minutes south of Sedona. It is cooler here, but not a lot—98!
We turn the air on in the RV, put the ‘water misters’ on and sit outside and drink a beer. I put the chicken in marinade for tonight. It is supposed to go down to the 60’s tonight but we will sleep well in our air-conditioned bedroom even if it doesn’t. This is not really camping…we have all the comforts of home—queen size bed in a separate bedroom, full bath w/shower, a full kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, stove, oven, and a living room with couch, chair and TV. You could have a satellite and get TV but we choose not to. We sometimes watch a movie, but usually in the evening we enjoy the stars, a little wine, and our iPod music.
Grilled chicken, grilled veggies for dinner,
drinking wine, listening to Dave Matthews, Coldplay, U2, Sugarland and many, many more---waiting for the stars to come out. There will be a lot of stars tonight; I can tell because the sky was Arizona blue today. No work for the next 11 days—that’s a good feeling.
Pati~I wish you were here, lots of good memories of our time here in February. Remember when we took walks at night looking at all the stars??? You layed down on the ground and tried to take pictures of them…..we laughed and laughed.
Someone has a campfire…the smell stirs up memories…I’m sure for everyone.
Ken has already made friends with our camping neighbors. It is a Mexican family, Miguel and Helen (is that Mexican??) They have a few grandchildren with them. They are from Phoenix and are staying here at Dead Horse Ranch State Park for two weeks. They have eight, yes, I said 8 dogs~~chihauhaus (I have no idea how to spell it, I took French, not Spanish) with them. They keep them in a fenced area that they brought with them. Miguel explains to Ken that the dogs are a family….mother, father, grandparents, even great grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

Our campsite at Dead Horse Ranch State Park The dogs are quiet except when Ken goes over to be friendly…they start barking.
Ken has invited Miguel to go fishing with him…..early tomorrow morning. I shall still be sleeping. Miguel has to ask the senorita and will let him know in the morning.
The stars are coming out now, the air is cool, the crickets are singing; the desert is so amazing; it can be so hot and as soon as the sun goes down, the coolness comes, Love it!
