Bella’s dad dropped her off at our house around 8 pm last night. She and Pops played, shooting rubber bands (actually hair ties) at each other. After work I had done last minute errands, grocery shopping, stopped at Henna’s to wish her a Happy Birthday. We will miss the party Nancy is having for Saturday. . I spent the evening packing up the rest of our stuff in the RV: food, clothes, shoes, etc. I said goodnight and went to bed…reading a bit first. I’m reading “Fortune’s Rock” by Anita Shreve. So far it’s OK, not the ‘page turner’ the reviews claim. Maybe after I get in to it. I set the alarm for one hour later than our normal time: 6:30 instead of 5:30. I really should leave it on 5:30, but can’t resist the ... read more

Ken got up around 6:30 and went down to the lobby to get some coffee. He said it tasted dreadful. We have an expresso machine in our RV, so we are spoiled with good coffee. If it isn’t good, we’d rather not have any. He went out to the RV to see if the freezer was still cold. The bag of ice we had in there had just started to melt. The chicken was still frozen. The items in the refrigerator section were still cold, but we threw everything out just in case. There wasn’t much left. He came back up to the room; we took showers and packed up. As he was loading up, I went to the hotel lobby and got some breakfast for us: granola, toast, orange juice. Stopped for gas at Safeway; ... read more

We sit on our balcony and drink some wine while waiting for the taxi. They said it would be 45 minutes. The taxi arrives; our driver is ‘Robin’. I ask her if they are busy and she said they are. She said the worse part is their dispatcher does not know what she is doing. She is the daughter of the regular dispatcher who is not available to work because she is in jail. The daughter has no experience and is making Robin’s life hell. We go to the ‘Branding Iron Restaurant’. We sit in the outside area. It’s kind of cozy but rustic. They have a shaded area with Christmas lights, a fire ring (it’s on because it is chilly), and a singer. He singing songs written by himself. He is OK; he’s kind of ... read more

We slept until 8 am this morning. I think Ken is a gypsy. We were supposed to stay at Mesa Verde another night, but he wants to move on. He said he has seen everything he needs to see here and wants to move on. So~ we are headed to Show Low, AZ. We had to stop at Walgreen’s to get a refill. As we were leaving Walgreens, Ken saw smoke coming from the back of the truck and at the same time a guy drove past us and said, your batteries are about to blow. Ken disconnected the cable from the car that supplies power to the battery unit. The batteries quit smoking. The wires were totally burnt and the wires were melted. OK—this changes things a lot! He calls the RV dealer in Tucson, ... read more

Got up at 6am; again it was cold (at 50 degrees). Ken made coffee; I had made omlettes and bacon last night and put them in the refrigerator so all I had to do was warm things up and make toast and put them together as sandwiches. I wrapped them in foil, packed a change of clothes and we left. We arrive at Outlaw Tours in the town of Durango around 8:30. It is such a pretty town in the San Juan Mountains with the Animas River running through it. We pay, find out where to meet and run to Starbucks to use the bathroom. Again, it is a beautiful sunny day. We take a short bus ride to the Animas River where we will launch the rafts. We are paired with a family of 4 ... read more

I wake up in the middle of the night, freezing. It’s 50 degrees inside; don’t know what it was outside. Ken throws a blanket on me and we fall back asleep. We didn’t wake up until 8:30…the latest so far. Must be the cool air. We are drinking our lattes outside. We see a deer in the bushes. The same little boy we saw yesterday is dancing…maybe I should do that!! It’s a beautiful day; think we’ll skip breakfast and head out. We drove up to the top of the park and got lunch at the restaurant up there. There was a tour bus full of senior citizens stopping for lunch too. Fortunately we beat them to the line. Then we took the hike to see some of the ruins. On the hike, we saw the ... read more

I went up to the camp store to pick up the wireless and blog. Ken stayed back and finished setting things up. As I blogged, many campers arrived. This is a pretty busy place. There are over 400 camp sites, but only 15 are full hookups, which we have one. You have to reserve them in advance. Again, a lot of tent campers. Ken makes a few phone calls, Jason and Uncle Don. We make dinner: chicken basil sausages, pasta, wine. We can hear children playing; we see a little boy skipping up to the bathrooms. The way he is skipping, he seems so free, not a care in the world. I can remember that feeling, especially when school was out for the summer. You had the whole summer to have fun; what a feeling. And ... read more

We slept good; Ken got up around 5:30, I got up at 6:30. We had lattes (it was not iced Jan-in the morning it’s 64 degrees so it’s tolerable) and started packing up. We said ‘au revoir’ to the French neighbors and left. We stopped in town to pick up some breakfast at the R.D.’s Drive In. I should have stopped here last night~they have ice cream. I orderd an egg and cheese burrito (we’ll split it) and some orange juice. I put a quarter in the juke box and select Rod Stewart’s Maggie May. My breakfast is ready before the song is over. We’re headed to Mesa Verde National Park, near Durango. It should be cooler there. We’re on 160 east now and it’s 87 degrees, already a drop from what it would be in ... read more

I blogged for a while until Ken called. The truck is fine; it was just the fuel filter. Must have picked up some bad gas. While he was waiting, he met an ole’ guy named Gary. He was having work done on his vehicle. He started talking to Ken (or more likely vice versa); He owns 16 acres near the North Rim and is trying to sell it. His wife died 6 months ago and he is so, so lonely. He has family back in California. He is going to move there; although he hates California; but his loneliness is more than he can bear. How sad. Ken asks him if would like to go get some lunch while they wait. He said he would be glad to take him~~he packed his lunch. He takes Ken ... read more

Ken got up earlier than me—he has an 8 am appointment to get the truck checked out, make sure it is OK. When you pulling 6000 lbs behind you, you don’t want to break down. I got up around 7:30 and now I’m sitting outside drinking my latte. It’s 87 degrees already, but I’m in shade so it is comfortable. The view of the lake is so pretty. There are a few boats on it already. I can’t help thinking about how Jason and his family were supposed to be here with us at Lake Powell. They would have loved it. April had to work so they couldn’t come. There actually is a nice cool breeze here in the shade. I know it won’t stay this way. ... read more
