Day 31 I had an early start today. That is better than it sounds, I was in bed by about 9.45! I am still sleeping for England! I was in for breakfast at 8.15, then off and away to find the metro. It can't be hard, they are huge and definitely not hidden! I walked through the roadworks, obviously given that the hotel is in a construction site! It sounds like I am being negative there, when in fact when you are in the hotel you actually can't tell! It really doesn't impair the visit! .... So, I set off, crossed a bridge which is the entrance to Dubai marina. I continued walking and got where I needed to be. It was easy! Only about 8 stops and I straight into the Mall. I have no ... read more

I did think that these few days in Dubai would be all about relaxing and getting a tan, by it just has t worked out that way, but in a good way! I loved last night's trip into the desert! I was so sleepy when I got back to he hotel. I was up at about eightish, which at the moment is good for me! I had a nice healthy breakfast, followed by a walk to Starbucks. Good coffee, but my main need is the wifi! I chose to take the health option this morning; I walked to the other Starbucks which is about twent minutes walk away in preference to the one n he cone. The main reason for this is that i got weighed! .... I have up on half a stone in China. ... read more

After eating last night, I went out to find an ATM. I have booked on three trips to see me through my time here. I did intend to purely sunbathe and chill, but to be honest, that is hard work. I just get so fidgety! I have booked for a night in the desert tonight, a tour round Dubai tomorrow and a trip to Burj Khalife on Wednesday. Altogether it comes to about £200 , which I suppose isn't bad when you take into account that it cost £20 for a days Internet usage in the hotel! I really don't want to buy anything in particular, but looking forward to looking in the souks. I have a couple of hours to sunbathe by the pool, then I am meeting the bloke who I have booked the ... read more

I arrived in the early hours this morning, but then the click went back 4 hours. That screws your body clock up, but at least I can get used to that 4 hours and it will be less of an impact when I get home! On arrival the hotel is very impressive. It is a huge room, huge bed and has everything you could need! This is the total extreme of what I have been experiencing for the last 4 weeks, not including Sai Kung, of course! I haven't ventured out yet as it is really early in the morning, but I am a bit disappointed with the surrounding building works. Once I get out there, it may not be a much of a building site as it looks from the 14th floor! But I suppose ... read more

Asia August 16th 2013

I had a bit of a lie in this morning, then was treated to a 'Derek's fry up'. I totally enjoyed it. After breakfast, and a bit of lounging around, Selina and I went for a walk, this gave Selina the chance to show me around the area. Selina, Singh and Derek were trying to think of things for me to do and see, but as I explained to them, I am so tired of climbing steps, seeing Buddahs, etc.... I just want to meet the family, spend time with them... And chill. So they have stooped trying to find things to do now.... And I am loving it! It is really quaint around this area. There are a lot of westerners living here. We stared off by walking down to see the beach area which ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong » Sai Kung August 16th 2013

OMG..... That place was unbelievable! I was up and out ASAP! I met with Selina, Ross's sister, at 11am outside The Peninsula Hotel. I found it really easy; it was literally 7 minutes away. We took a taxi to the bus station, then a local bus to Sai Kung. When we arrived at the house, it was such a welcome relief. SPACE, air on, western toilet, a washing machine, good food, real tea and coffee......and a big bath! Selina ran me a bubble bath, and took my washing, I felt like I had died and gone to heaven! I met with Derek, Ross's dad, Singh, Selina's husband, and the children. The kids were really quiet at first, but they soon warmed up! Some more family members came round with their kids for a family gathering. I ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong » Kowloon August 14th 2013

We had a couple of hours drive to Yong Ding to catch the night train to Guangzhou. That trip took about 9 hours. We all more or less went straight to sleep as it was 10pm when we got on. I slept pretty well. It's amazing how you get used to the overnight trains! But that was our last one because we have now left China. We arrived at Guangzhou bus station at about 8am, then took a public bus to Zhuhai. We have just been informed that all boats to Macau have been cancelled because a tropical storm is hitting Southern China and Hong Kong right now. We had a couple of alternative options; the group chose to continue for another 8 hours to travel overland to Hong Kong. So we are now in for ... read more

Asia » China » Fujian » Zhangzhou City August 13th 2013

We got woken up this morning in the campsite by , ' 'The Back Street Boys' belting out. Now there's a positive start to the day... Lol We had noodles for breakfast before clearing up the site. Then we were taken in the minibus back down the mountain to the hostel to get showered and changed ready for the bike ride. We all got fitted up for bikes and helmets before setting off down the mountain. The Liu's have been amazing! They have been so well organised for every minute that we have been with them. We had a bus at the front with endless supplies of water, cyclists in the middle with Khalid always at the back..... With me.... Then at the very back was the support bus. I loved it! I was a bit ... read more

Today I got up more positive than I felt last night! I did my colour on my hat, got rid of the white roots! Did my washing, as we are here for two days, and got showered. Then Khalid burst my happy bubble by telling me that we were not staying again, which meant that I have a bag full of wet washing! Aw well, We set of in minibuses to look around the round houses. Yichang Earth Building is the oldest round house in Nanjing County. These old houses are quite impressive, and i like the whole community living idea. Although people still actually live there, it is spoilt by pure tourism, but you can't blame them. bought so much! I am now the proud owner of a Chinese tea set, various teas, and a ... read more
