Leaving Atlanta – Monday July 2, 2018 It’s 6 AM and I feel this gentle rub on my leg, I open my eyes and I see Kirsten’s smiling face starring into mine saying. We’re on vacation and we have flights to catch. I smile... knowing Kirsten has given me every moment of extra sleep knowing it going to be a long day. I’m in and out of the shower in record time and were on our way to pick up Omi. So, for this adventure Kirsten has swapped houses, yep your read that correctly. About 18 month’s ago, Kirsten listed us on some web site called Homelink.org. She has been getting requests daily, ok maybe not daily but weekly …seriously. So, she accepted a request from a couple in France located in the Loire Valley “Thus ... read more

It’s six AM, I rollover and hear Bea busily getting ready for work. So, at this time I would like to give a special THANK YOU BEA!!!! If it wasn’t for you Bea we wouldn’t have had such a great Christmas Market vacation. Kirsten and I see Bea and Omi along with the rest of the Delta crew off. All of a sudden Kirsten and I are alone. WOO HOO, we grab our bags and off we go. We are to catch a flight out of Dusseldorf tomorrow morning at 11:35 AM. It’s now Friday around 8:30 am. What to do!!!!!! Kirsten looks at me and says find me a quaint Christmas market. Ok, I do my famous sticking my finger on the map and after multiple rejects Kirsten approves Rudesheim. I wake up in the room with Kirsten, Omi and Bea. I’m peeking above my covers making sure everyone is asleep, I bolt for the bathroom tripping over my shoes and suitcases in my way before Kirsten, Omi or Bea has a chance. This reminds me growing up in house with three sisters and two brothers. How we ever made it with so few bathrooms... I’ll never know, amazing. In less than an hour, everyone is ready and were walking toward Rudolf in the garage. Our plan is to cover as many Christmas Markets in the next two days as we possibly can. So basically, I going to list the villages, the highlights and let the pictures tell the story. We drank Gluewine, we ate brats and Pommefrits (German for French fries) which are the best, ... read more

Day 3 – Off to find St Nicolaus – Tuesday November 28th,2017 After a good night sleep, we are all packed and down stairs having breakfast at our Gasthaus. Ahhh, soft boiled eggs. I love having soft boiled eggs in Europe. I don’t know why it’s just isn’t Europe until I eat my first soft boiled egg. Yes, we have arrived. As we’re finishing breakfast Omi leans in close to Kirsten and me and asks, should we make ourselves a sandwich for today. Kirsten and I both look and smile and say Yea! I’m first and inline making myself a Dagwood sandwich, pick up a couple eggs and a handful of those cheese balls that are wrapped. I return back to the table and Omi is thinking… Kirsten trained you very well. Yes, she did. The ... read more

I pull myself together and make my down stairs Petra & Eberhard are busy in the kitchen cooking and it smells good. Gutten Morgan, Yah Yah would you like some Kaffee. Yah, Danka I suck at German, but I give it my best. Kirsten and Omi come in just as I’m sitting down with my coffee. Yep, I have no idea what they are saying, LOL. We have a fabulous breakfast and the car is packed and were off to Fulda. This is where Omi is from if you didn’t already know that. So, I’m in the back seat, Kirsten is driving ... read more

The flight attendant wakes me up…. Wow, I slept pretty good for being on an eight-hour flight over the pond. “Vould Ues likes some breakfast Mr Wagan?”. Yes, please as I’m put my hearing aids on. I’m served a great breakfast and no sooner than they take it away, we’re on the ground taxiing to our gate. Kirsten and Omi breeze through passport control, then it’s my turn. It seems I always get the 3rd degree when entering Europe. I finally point to Kirsten and the inspector laughs Yah, Yah. Normally we go straight to get our rental car. However, this time is different, Kirsten and Omi’s bags had to be checked in Orlando due to no overhead room on the flight from Orlando. Finally, the bags come out we make our way to the car ... read more

It’s 6 AM and I feel this sharp pressure in my back, I’m opening my eyes and I hear “get up lazy boy”. We’re on vacation and we have flights to catch. As I’m falling or being pushed out of bed, I catch myself just before I do a face plant on the floor. I hear Kirsten say from our bed, Good Morning Sunshine, the shower is waiting. I crawl into the bathroom and pull myself up on the vanity. I’m thinking “This is going to be a long day”. We’re all up showered and fresh, well at least Kirsten is. Drew and I are still half asleep, as we make our way into Kirsten’s car. Kirsten has already picked up Omi and they are both ready to go. I drive to the Orlando airport, there ... read more

Kirsten kicks me out of bed early saying get up sleepy, we have a train to catch. I roll out of bed asking wh.. wh.. what time is it, it’s time to get up silly. By the time, I’m out of the shower Kirsten has everything packed and is ready to go. No wonder Darden misses her, she is out the door and heading down stairs for breakfast. You coming she ask? Well, I will miss this hotel, sleeping in a bed that’s not moving like a roller coaster will truly be missed. Breakfast is delicious, of course, it’s hard to mess up scramble eggs and sausage. We finish breakfast and check out from the hotel. Kirsten is out the door pulling her suitcase, while I’m putting the receipt in my backpack. We make our way ... read more

I open one eye and peek over at Kirsten, she is peaking at me with one eye. We both grin at each other and ask did you sleep as good as I did. We answer yea, then roll over for another 30 minutes. After getting up from a great night sleep. And a wonderful HOT shower we are out the door for breakfast and planning our day. Breakfast was wonderful, we both feasted knowing we’d be walking our legs off today. As we’re eating Kirsten breaks out her travel notes and starts with where we’ll be picking up the FREE shuttle all the way through to when we return on the FREE shuttle. And yes, everything we plan on seeing in between. Yes, Kirsten and I both have been to San Francisco; however, I’ve never really ... read more
