It’s 3 AM and I have been bounced around in my tin can for the last 6 hours. Every time the train smooths out, I fall asleep. Then the train goes over a rough spot and I’m all over the place like a pin ball being swatted back and forth. Kirsten…. we are not in Arizona anymore. I wake up to the sound of the door of our roomette opening, it’s Kirsten sneaking out, I must go and pee. Yeah, me too… I but I didn’t want to wake you up getting down from my cocoon. So, it’s 5:30 am and I slept maybe 3-4 hrs. at best. I’m aching from head to toe. Ok, I like a hard mattress, but there is hard and then there is granite. WOW! We’re off to breakfast after freshening ... read more

It’s 6:30 AM and I’ve had another great night sleep. Yah, Kirsten is still asleep. Just like yesterday I go into my stealth mode and get cleaned up and dressed. I’m out the door without disturbing her at all…NOT. I get myself a cup of coffee, sit down and begin updating my blog. Once Kirsten and Drew have had their coffee, we are ready to go. We’re out the door and off for a day of exploring Arizona, Kirsten is the navigator and instructs Drew where to go. Flagstaff is about 2-3 hours away if you take the interstate. Well you know Kirsten, if there is a back road we’re going to take it. So, we set our sights on Sedona via backroad AZ Hwy 89. Sort of like route 66. After an hour of cruising ... read more

I wake up around 5 am, I’m still on east coast time. Kirsten is still asleep all curled up in her blanket on her soft mattress. Great night sleep, soft mattress. I turn on my stealth mode and slip into the shower, after dressing I slip out and head down stairs to have some breakfast. Kirsten is still fast asleep. Kirsten joins me after an hour or so. She is smiling and says… I love the bed it’s so soft and cushy. Yeah, I know I felt like I was sleeping a marshmallow. No, it was a cloud and I floated all night. Drew comes in to the hotel lobby/dining area, gets a cup of coffee and sits down. Kirsten pulls out her list of items she wants to explore. After reviewing the list with Drew, ... read more

Tribute to Momma I don’t know if everyone has heard… On Friday March 31st Momma passed. Tuesday April 4th, we laid her to rest next to daddy, it was a good to see all the family and celebrate her life. I would like to share some thoughts on how Momma influenced my life. Momma’s Famous saying Be sure your sins will find you out Behave! Behave! Behave! Another depression is coming Nagh Momma was always very giving, I remember one evening after delivering the newspapers she forced me to carry a meal up to this house. I walked up to the door and knocked, as the door opened I raised my head and was met by the girl I sat next to in my 7th grade class. As I carried the meal into her house, I ... read more

Our Second Night in Paris Kirsten is still asleep. The hotel we are in is quite nice the bed is a marshmallow. Yes, finally we’ve found a bed that Kirsten falls into and sinks like she’s falling into a cloud. As she’s waking up I hear her say. I think that was the best night sleep I’ve ever had. I just smile, ok great can we go get some breakfast. We get ready and head down stairs, ok one of the most important thing we been told. I mean told over and over, you have to have your breakfast voucher to get breakfast. Don’t lose your breakfast voucher you will not get another one. So this little piece of paper the size of a business card gets us into the biggest feeding room you can imagine. ... read more

Our First Night in Paris Well the morning has come its time to set our bags out side by our cabin door. Yes, we’re both sad that the cruise has come to an end. We slowly make our way to the dinning room as if this is going to prolong our time on the boat. We had a good breakfast and made ourselves our famous sandwiches for a snack latter. We even snagged a couple of hard-boiled eggs. The crew I think was sadder than Kirsten, they all hugged her as she was leaving the boat. At one point I think Arie was wiping a tear from his eye. We climbed on the bus for our ride to Luxemburg to visit the WWII gravesite where General Patton is buried. You know, I grew up at Fort ... read more

Looking for all the "EST" Bump the boat jars against the dock. It’s 6am and the assistant Captain to the ASSISTANT Captain is at the wheel. Everyone has to learn to park the boat sometime. It just happens to be today. I roll out of bed and make my way to my breakfast spot in the front of the boat. Good morning Mr. Vaughan, dids you’s like jour vakeup call? Ya Ya Ya We all are laughing as he’s pouring me cup of coffee and the boat lurches again. Kirsten joins me and we have a nice quite breakfast after the boat was finally tied up. After breakfast we stroll off the boat and into town. Bernkastel is a cute village on the Mosel River. Its village square is surrounded with half-timber houses clustered together like ... read more

Sailing on the Romantic Rhine I rollover as the boat floats effortlessly on a carpet of water. I look out our window, it’s raining and I don’t care. Kirsten snuggles up next to me as we both slip back into our dreams. WOW! What a great night sleep. I gently slip out of bed and out the door before Kirsten knows I’m gone. I’m the only one up besides the crew who is busy getting breakfast ready for the early risers. I sit at the bow of the boat watching the rain as I sip my coffee. Mr. Vaughan would you like your usual breakfast. Yes, please. Yea, it’s gotten that good. By the time my breakfast arrives, Kirsten is standing next to me. I’m getting spoiled you know, yea me too. Around 9am Claudia comes ... read more

Day 10 &11 Tuesday & Wednesday August 2 & 3, 2016 Momma’s birthday I roll over and look out the window. It’s raining lightly; I close my eyes we are sleeping in today. The rest of the boat is taking a tour to Heidelberg. Kirsten has seen the city; me I’m a wanted man in Heidelberg. The last time I was there… Lori and I were trying to get out of a parking garage. I broke off the parking garage arm that keeps you in. Yea, I’m sure the Poliezi are still looking for me. Kirsten and I sleep in and meander to the breakfast buffet in the front of the boat. We sat there having a nice quite breakfast. Three of the wait staff were there and waited on us hand and foot. I couldn’t ... read more

It’s Sunday morning, I rollover and think am I dreaming. Don’t ask Kirsten she’ll pinch you. Nope I’m still on vacation. Woo Hoo! We’re still in Bamberg and after breakfast we go on a walking tour of Bamberg. Stephan our guide is a student working on his masters’ degree at the university of Bamberg. We walk through the old town, seeing and hearing about all the attractions. The Slaughterhouse, Cathedral and the famous Raucher Beer. It’s a type of beer with a distinctive smoke flavor imparted by using malted barley dried over an open flame. The Rauchbiers of Bamberg in Germany, Schlenkerla in particular, are the best-known of the smoked beers. We make it back to the boat and have lunch. The ship begins sailing, as we take off, everyone is watching out the windows as ... read more
