Glad to hear that you love Darwin. It is a beautiful city and very easy to live in. We love it there and will have to get back there oneday. We have some sad news, Mum passed away on the 10th of July. Sad for us not so sad for her as her quality of life was not good. Enjoy the beautiful weather, it is freezing here. Look forward to hearing from you again Love Dawn and Howard
Darwin Hi Dawn and Howard
So sorry to hear about your mum. We both send our condences during what must be a very sad time for you. Irene will now be in a better place and no longer suffering. She had many many wonderful years with a lovely family so definitely a cause for celebration there which I am sure would what she would have wanted.
Will keep in touch.

Darwin Hi Robert, Great to hear from you too. Still waiting for some of your photos of your trip to the Himalayas! Would love to see a shot of you in the mountains with all your gear on with a sherpa by your side!
Yes, we certainly are enjoying Darwin, although it would be nice if, we had a car to drive around in now that we are settled here for a while. We used to laugh at all the caravanners and just how long it used to take them to set up and pack up before they could move. Now it is us that they are laughing at as we have to close all our windows, put the awning away etc to go out for the day, where as they just jump in their 4WD's. Nevermind, at least we are getting fit and getting plenty of excercise on our bikes.
Darwin Hi Suzanne and Pete
Good to get your blog and glad you like Darwin. I really liked it in the few days I was there some years ago. I was wondering where you had got to! Sounds like a good idea to stay there for a while, nice weather, nice jobs and nice life! Very cold and wet in Melbourne so north is the place to be! I am trying to rememeber where there is a small museum (I think it was run by the RSL) It ran a film show about the Japanese invading Darwin during the war and then a film on Cyclone Tracey. It was a nice place to visit. Only small but very interesting. Hope you can find it.
Take care of yourselves, and keep in touch, Love Kyra
Darwin museum Hi Kyra
Great to hear from you too. Pete and I visited the museum on our last trip here but we do intend to go again before we leave.
Yes, the weather is great so no complaints there. Can't remember the last time that I put a pair of jeans on!
I will keep in touch.
Take care
Suzanne and Pete

Working Hi Kathie and Gerald
Good to hear from you. Yes the blog site will be quiet for a while as we will be staying put in Darwin until October. We are both working so it is certainly nice to see some money coming in for a change.
Pete is at Coles in the Dairy and I am working at Travelex at the airport.
Will resume the blog when we commence travelling again.
you went thr Mackay!!!!! Hey there - just catching up on your blog; you passed through here and we didn't see in time to catch up with you. We live here!!! Never mind - glad you did stay around for a look see and did the Cape Hillsborough and Eungella Nat Park thing.
catching up Hi Suzanne - just checked out your page again - we didn't get out that way but hope to some time. The hot weather put us off but during the winter months would be ideal. However, I have gone back to work for 2 days a week so we will possibly just take a month or so at a time and head off now and again. We did the North Qld thing last winter and it was pretty hot - not cold anywhere except at Ravenswood one night. Good to see you are having a wonderful time still! Happy travels.
Darwin Hi Barb
Wonderful to see that you are still following our blog so it hopefully is not too boring! Darwin in so great that I have now got a job here and Pete should have one very soon. Weather is hot and the place is great for biking around as it is very flat. Very friendly neighbours in the campsite so we couldn't ask for anything more.
Happy travelling yourselves.
Regards
Suzanne and Pete
Raining in Rotorua! Hi Pete and Suzanne, well its raining in Rotorua!!!!! Also getting a little chillier, but I can see a great crop of camelias and rhodies on my trees now.
Did you manage to see the Flying Doctor service or the school on the air, whilst you were in the Alice! Hope so, but if not you will likely catch them again in the remote places. Hope you like Darwin, I think its great with fab sunsets and some Indonesian type government buildings......and the night markets. Its not that far from Indonesia so don't get into any rusty boats by mistake.......and watch out for them crocs!!!!!!! NEVER smile as a crocodile. Keep the photos coming, I am turning into an armchair traveller courtesy of you two!! Take care Love Kyra
Darwin Hi Kyra
Great to hear from you. No, we didn't go to the School of the Air in Alice as I planned to go in Katherine instead. Unfortunately on arriving in Katherine we found it was closed for tours there due to lack of volunteers so we were very dissapointed. We will endeavour to try some other remote town on our travels to see how it all works.
And yes, we are certainly watching out for those crocodiles. They say fresh water crocs on like fish but as far as I am concerned, salties or freshies make no difference, because if I see either when I am in the water I am likely to die of fright!
Alice Hi Dawn and Howard
Good to hear from you. We are now in Katherine where it is hotter than Alice! The Gorge was fantastic, especially the dip in the water hole!

English weather Hi Geoff and Rita

John Walmsley Received this from Trinity college Auckland.
I was still hoping that I might find something for you. Your request got put aside because our print volume that lists all the CMS personnel was missing. We found it a week or so ago, and I was about to email you. His name is not known as a member of the Church Missionary Society, but I wanted to check. He personnel brought to NZ by the CMS are very clearly listed. I suspect that he was employed locally.
If he came via Australia, it would be worth looking at any of the John Walmsley’s listed on convict lists. There is one whose 14 year term expired in 1838, for example. Also follow up on NSW and other state’s bdms, most of which have indexes on line, to see if he was born there or in transit.
Looking on Ancestry, it is a common name in the Lancashire area: it may be possible to isolate one who is in the 1841 census but not in the succeeding census’s.

You just might run across some convicts over there that fit the description!!!!!!
John Walmsley family tree Hi David
Interesting reading! We will try and search some more but we still we still think that he came from Lancashire and hope to confirm this when we go over next year and I can research the records in Manchester.
Glad to hear that the drought has broken in NZ and the grass is probably getting greener!

4 August, 2012 - Peter and Suzanne, being of the Baby Boomers generation, are now setting forth on the next travel phase of our lives. We met many years ago in Cape Town, South Africa, Suzanne from Oldham in England and Peter from Cambridge in New Zealand, on an overland expedition taking six months to get to London. A year later we then journeyed from London to Australia overland taking 10 months. We settled in Rotorua, New Zealand, had 3 great kids who are now doing their own thing and it is now, excitingly, time for us to recommence where we left off. We have, with much trepidation on my... full info
