Day one in Zambia, and I was very happy to wake up to a clear blue, sunny sky. We sat in the grounds of the hostel having a cup of tea and breakfast (included) as the day began to get warmer with the sun rising higher. Temperatures dropped notably in the evenings, which I wasn’t quite prepared for with my one hoodie! We ventured out on foot along the streets of Lusaka and found our way to the Freedom statue on Independence Avenue. The statue shows a man breaking away from chains, to commemorate the Independence of Zambia in 1964. It was not as prominent, or as large as I had imagined it to be, but significant nonetheless. The pavements are dusty lanes alongside the main road. We passed many friendly Zambians saying hello. It was ... read more

This summer, I decided to head off on an adventure to a continent I had yet to set foot in. Selected destination...Africa! Along with a friend from the UK, we had a skype discussion one Saturday morning (early Saturday morning in Hong Kong and late at night in the UK). We narrowed it down to a few countries in this vast continent, and flight prices also came into play, leaving our choice to be flights to Lusaka, in Zambia. It turned out to be fairly equidistant, both of us flying into Dubai from our respective resident countries, and there we were reunited at the departure gate for the second flight to Lusaka! Social Media and brilliant coincidence! I am actually going to begin this blog in Dubai...well, actually Dubai airport of all places! Who knew Dubai ... read more

Hong Kong Summer is here. To many people, the idea of summer is all blue skies, fluffy clouds and of course, sunshine! Every year, however, I am reminded that a Hong Kong summer is not quite that! Hong Kong summer requires me to carry round a pair of sunglasses as well as an umbrella, all the time! At any moment, the weather can change, and if you are caught without an umbrella, it is often not even possible to just get a bit wet....because it's usually torrential! I have been here for almost six years, and I still made this mistake the other day! Walking around Causeway Bay in the busy Times Square, it started to sprinkle a bit so I thought, I'm fairly close to the shopping mall, I'll just walk a bit faster. No, ... read more

There is something particularly refreshing about waking up by the sea. Each morning when I woke up in Gerroa, I could see the Pacific Ocean and seven miles of beach from my bedroom! A morning walk with a fresh sea breeze to kick start the day, and I was a happy traveller! The waves were crashing over the headland rocks, and there was nothing but ocean as far as the eye could see. Just an hour and a half's drive south from Sydney and I was in small town New South Wales, with a view over seven mile beach...yes, it is seven miles long! (and no, I did not make it to the end and back!!) After my time in Sydney itself, I took a trip down the coast to the town of Gerroa, to stay ... read more

Being lucky enough to visit Sydney for the third time, I had a nice relaxing trip ahead of me, not having to wander round with a handful of maps looking lost! Well, perhaps I still did look a bit lost, and of course I was wielding a camera! Ever the tourist, I went back to my favourite spots in the city including a sunny picnic lunch in the Botanical Gardens. Of course I took a wander round Circular Quay, at night time this time, taking in the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. The main purpose of my trip was to visit friends and catch up. That is one of the good things, and bad things about living in Hong Kong. You can make friends from all over the world, but then sometimes they leave ... read more

Between Chinese New Year and Easter, I had a visit from my Mum, from the UK. I took the opportunity to be a tourist again, and get the camera out. It's nice to see things with fresh eyes again, and you appreciate things that you realise you might have forgotten were foreign or interesting or different. Luckily I was on holiday from work at the same time, so I spent lots of time hanging out with my Mum, creating new memories and enjoying each others company again. The weather was on our side, the winter seemed to have skipped up this year, having only been cold for a few weeks. Mum and I took trips to Lamma Island, Ocean Park, Cheung Chau Island and more. We spent a few evenings playing games at my brother's house, ... read more

We were probably the only people who had jet lag from Hong Kong to Phuket! It was only a three-hour flight, but it departed Hong Kong at midnight, so by the time we arrived at the hotel it was 4.30 in the morning! Sleep deprivation may have prevented us from doing 7am yoga, but it certainly wasn’t going to stop us doing bodyfit at Naiharn beach! Just after sunrise we walked down the quiet street to Tiger Muay Thai, and joined the energetic bodyfit group to take the bus down to Naiharn. Instantly, we got a sense of the community spirit and collaborative nature of group fitness, even more so when people have traveled from across the world to experience it. Chatting away on the bus, everyone has a story, a destination, a motivation or maybe ... read more

Last year I went to a small street in Chalong, Phuket, which is mostly unknown to the average tourist to this Thai island. The average tourist is most likely in search of white sandy beaches, blue skies and clear sea. The only one of these found in Chalong is the blue skies! I went to a street where the world revolves around fitness, and people are there to try something new, get fit, have fun, meet new people, or just for a holiday! For me it is a perfect holiday, I can train, eat healthy, and enjoy the Thai life and sunshine! I had a short break, just four days, but being only a three hour flight from Hong Kong, that is perfectly manageable. A friend from work joined me and we had four days of ... read more

So... I was having such a good time at home that I decided to call the airline and see if it was possible to change the dates of my return flight. At first hearing the quote, I thought this wouldn't be possible, but we had our currencies mixed up and I was delighted to hear that his quote to change the flight was in Hong Kong dollars and not British pounds - much more favourable!! So, I added four days to my trip to enjoy some more time in lively London. I had a nice explorative day in London walking around, which is one of the best ways to view London. Crossing over bridges and putting pieces of this large city together. Nice things always pop up, like an unexpected viewpoint, a street market or an ... read more

A day at the Olympic park was certainly a day to remember. This summer, London has been buzzing with Olympic fever in every corner. Needless to say I was very excited to be part of it, and heading to the games themselves. With tickets in hand, I went with my Mum to the Olympic park in Stratford. The journey was fine and not overcrowded. Previously there had been many concerns over the transport capabilities of London, in particular the London Underground, but in my experience, it was fine. The heroic army were there upon arrival at the park to do the security checks before we went into the park itself. The Olympic stadium was directly in front, behind a giant welcome gate and to the side was the oddly shaped orbit which is a viewing platform. ... read more
