So far the trip has been amazing and we have not had lots of separation anxiety from Nathan when he stays behind to sleep in the camper with Uncle Mike, Auntie Jenn, Ellie, and Grayson. It seems like it is the beginning of Nathan learning his independence when he says his nightly goodbyes that he is going to be fine, and he still needs help from Mike and Jenn so it is not that bad like if he was with non-family. It is really cute to see when Vivian sees him when we get to the campground in the mornings and she runs and gives him a great big hug! Rosie says she wants to sleep in the camper "next time" or when she is 6 years old too like Nathan. At the campground we saw ... read more

We thought it would be great to get to sleep in a room without kids, but Rosie came into Tory’s bed from 3-4am. At least we slept in a little bit before we drove out to Cade’s Cove to meet up with Mike, Jenn, Gray, Ellie, Nathan, and Kirby and Donna. We were greeted by Ellie and Nathan on Bike’s and Grayson on his 4-wheeled “Berg.” Today was a big active day for the kids to be outside and play together non-stop to the point where you wonder if they will every be worn out! We first went over to climb on some rocks and the kids found a stage where Ellie and Rosie could breakout their best Frozen singing rendition of “Let it go.” Gray and Vivian found a house to play some hide and ... read more

Today was going to be a big travel day and Tory and Jenn took Rosie and Vivian in the Tahoe while Steve and Mike took Grayson, Ellie, and Nathan in the Ford truck pulling the camper. We packed up the remainder of the camper and headed out for the drive to Townsend and Cade’s Cove. It took about 5 hours to get to Jenns parent’s house, Kirby and Donna (Paw and Maw.) With 5 kids there were many bathroom and food breaks at Dunkin’ Donuts, the side of the road, and McDonald’s for lunch. The 3 big kids talked the whole ride and were on pretty good behavior while Rosie and Vivian watched movies happily during the drive. We got to Kirby and Donna’s house in Townsend and were greeted and treated very well. We thought ... read more

Today was highly anticipated by Nathan of the day that Uncle Mike and Auntie Jenn would get their camper out of storage. After an easy cereal breakfast, Ellie, Rosie, Vivian and Steve played a little soccer outside before Mike, Jenn, Nathan, and Ellie needed to go get the camper. The day was supposed to be cold but the sun was out and it was a perfect warm temperature. While they were gone getting the camper, Steve, Tory, Gray, Rosie, and Vivian had a fun time together. Grayson rode his Berg around and was going really fast as the 4-wheel pedal go-kart turns on a dime! Then they walked around the neighborhood because they had some garage sales and Gray and Rosie were talking and holding hands like best buddies. Mike and Jenn came back with the ... read more

Puckett’s grocery and restaurant is a hallmark of Tennessee and actually was a restaurant that Steve and Tory went while visiting Nashville 7 years earlier after Jenn and Mike’s wedding. On the drive out to Franklin to have breakfast at Puckett’s, we were able to see some of the local places like the Parish Presbyterian Church and the Franklyn Classical Christian Academy. Parish Pres is where Jenn and Mike go and see Franklin Classical is where Ellie goes to school and Grayson next year. Tory ordered a really good eggs benedict that had fried chicken with it and Steve wanted to try some grits and make sure they still were gross (which they were.) When we got back home it was a perfect day to take the kids for a walk to the park. Jenn, Steve, ... read more

We woke up and Jenn worked as our short order chef for all the kids with flapjacks and eggs. Ellie and Grayson showed Steve their schoolwork area and amazed him by how well that they both could read for their ages! Steve had to work today so everyone else made the morning trip out to Luckyladd farms in Eagleville, including one of Ellie's friends Piper as seen in the pictures from the day on the back of Mike's truck. The farm was full of pumpkins and plenty to do such as: petting goats, picking pumpkins, sliding on sacks, seesawing, and climbing. At the end, the kids all had peanut butter (Nathan) or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the back of Uncle Mike's truck and we took some adorable pictures. Back home Vivian napped and the ... read more

Off to Tennessee, the land of Country music and fried chicken. Nathan is now 6 1/2, Rosie is 3 and turns 4 in 3 weeks, and Vivian is 21 months old. They were very excited to see their similar aged cousins Ellie (6 1/2) and Grayson (4). With the COVID pandemic happening over the last 7 months, the airports have been much less crowded than usual and the check in and security went very smooth and easy. The kids flew to Sacramento in August to see Steve's parents but the 4-hour flight seemed a little more daunting of a job especially with the face mask requirements. The kids kept busy with toys, plenty of snacks, and movies on the iPad, while the amazing, happy baby Vivian had a nice 1 hour nap sleeping on Steve. Mike ... read more

The last morning was just like the others going to the breakfast café and having some time playing in the morning in pajamas with Nana in her hotel room. We spent the last time swimming in the hotel pool that our energetic Rosie enjoyed by jumping around, screaming, and jumping into the pool. The kids played in Nana and Grandpa’s hotel room as Tory and Steve packed, another example of a huge help they were for the whole trip. After packing we drove to Boston and had to go through the Ted Williams tunnel to get to the airport. Overall, the kids did pretty good with the trip and all the hustling around to do all the things and visiting places, especially 4-month old Vivian. Since Rosie and Nathan were only 2 and 5-years old, it’s ... read more

We had the hotel breakfast buffet again and then left Vivian with Nana and Grandpa at the hotel since they wanted to do some laundry. It worked out great because Steve and Tory could goto Brown again and take Nathan and Rosie. They first went to Brown St. Park and met up with Steve’s old football friend, Jarrod Lynn, and 2 of his boys that were age 2 and 4. Jarrod stayed at Brown after graduating and has been running AIA, Athletes In Action, the Christian Ministry for the Sports at Brown University for around 15 years. Next, everyone went over to the Atheltic Complex and Jarrod's 4-year old Wesley and Nathan had a blast running circles around the big green area. Jarrod with familiar with the sports complex, so he helped show us the new ... read more

Everyone woke up late and had the breakfast buffet again for the 4thstraight day. By this time, we had found our own corner table where we all fit and the kids can sit on the wall together. As was with almost all of the trip, there was great weather, so we decided to go to Narraganset and Salty Brine beach. The sand was white and the kids could watch the Block Island Ferry and fishing boats come and go. Steve, Tory, Nathan, and Rosie also had fun climbing on the rocks and took a walk down to climb the ladder at the lifeguard station neat the Galilee beach club. Everyone ate some tasty clam chowder at Geroge’s of Galilee and then went back to the room for late naps for Rosie and Vivian. Nathan swam with ... read more
