So far the trip has been amazing and we have not had lots of separation anxiety from Nathan when he stays behind to sleep in the camper with Uncle Mike, Auntie Jenn, Ellie, and Grayson. It seems like it is the beginning of Nathan learning his independence when he says his nightly goodbyes that he is going to be fine, and he still needs help from Mike and Jenn so it is not that bad like if he was with non-family. It is really cute to see when Vivian sees him when we get to the campground in the mornings and she runs and gives him a great big hug! Rosie says she wants to sleep in the camper "next time" or when she is 6 years old too like Nathan.
At the campground we saw everyone and then went to a special hike that takes us through the hillside to a special cabin that we might get a glimpse of black bears on the way. Maw and Paw reassured us that these bears are harmless and if they are sitting in the path, you have to just wait for them to leave. Nathan and Rosie listened closely as they
were told that the bears might give you a warning growl if they didn't want you to get close, and they were to stay on the lookout for them. We also all admired different leaves and mushrooms and moss growing everywhere. Steve, Tory, Rosie, and Vivi turned around after a mile and started back to the house in Townsend as Rosie lept and jumped all over the trails, what an amazing adventurous girl (like her shirt said.) Tory stayed at the campground to get lunch ready and enjoy the fresh outdoor air as Steve took the girls home to nap. Nathan and the others made it all the way to the cabin and we heard that there were bats there. It was amazing that Nathan, Ellie, and Grayson hiked almost 3.5 miles that day!
Everyone came back to the house that afternoon to take showers and rest before heading back to the campgrounds. Rosie was able to unwrap her 4th birthday present of Polly Pocket and as she and Vivian got ready in the car to go back, Ellie read "The hungry caterpillar" to them and the 3 girls had some sweet girl time. Rosie's shirt says "Adventurous" to the campground the kids wanted to get playing and riding bikes and Gray's "Berg" again. Steve, Tory, Ellie, Nathan, and Vivi (On Tory's back) had a fun game of keep away with the soccer ball as the fire started. Gray and Rosie explored the campground and someone came by with light up bike's that kept everyone's attention. The kids had chicken nuggets and broccoli plus cupcakes for dinner and the adults had some delicious chili that was made by Maw and Paw. We tried to no avail to sit around the campfire but there was too much excitement for the young kiddos to sit still. It was still a nice end to the camping as Nathan slept at the camper again and Steve and Tory took Rosie and Vivian back to the house in Townsend.
