After taking full advantage of the breakfast at the hotel we set off to explore as much of the city as possible. We crossed over Liberty Bridge to start in Buda & wandered up the west bank of the Danube until we reached the castle gardens when we headed up the hill. We climbed up to the Castle Musuem and planned to walk along the top of Castle Hill past the Royal Palace but the rote was closed (possibly for some ceremony or concert?) so we had to come all the way back down then up again partly along the Király lépcső (Royal Steps) & partly taking less steep side paths (there was a long queue for the funicular). We walked to the north side of the Royal Palace (via some souvenir stalls) then back towards ... read more

Up early but not too early for my lovly husband to drive me to the airport at 6am before heading back the other way to work. Managed to get away with hand luggage only and as I've checked in online the night before I headed straight through to find a quiet seat in the far corner of the departures area to await my gate call. I'm rather amused that I could also check in for my flight home & print my boarding pass before I'd even left home! Flight was ok, only a few hours & I'd baggsied a window seat so got good views until we went above the cloud layer. Touched down in Budapest bang on time and again enjoyed the swift exit allowed by only having hand luggage. I found the Transport booth ... read more

Friday was wet again. We breakfasted on fried eggs, bacon, mushrooms & black pudding (well, each had bits of that). Chavaunne & I went for walk up the Clywdog Trail from Bersham church, past Nant Mill, around the edge of Coepoeth then over to Minera Lead Mines & County Park before returning down Clywdog Trail. We got rather damp! At least it wasn't cold though. We saw a cuckoo on a wire on the way there & a tawny owl in wood. We returned for a late lunch of crackers & cheese before Chavaunne & Vicky went riding whilst I failed to watch Much Ado as the TV refused to talk to Vicky's laptop! Saturday Vicky & Chavaunne went riding again whilst I sat in the sun & read (sadly no pony suitable for my inexperience). ... read more

Looked like being a good weather day so we headed up to the north coast. First stopped at the Point of Ayr to visit the RSPB reserve, the hide was well hidden & very little bird life out there. Carried on around the rather slow coast road to Colwyn Bay then down to Dalgarrog to do the "Tagic Disaster Area" walk including Llyn Eigiau & Coedty reservoirs (in Nov 1925 the Eigiau dam broke then so did the one at Coedty sending huge boulders towards the town. 16 people were killed, it would have been higher but most of the town were at the cinema - not sure what they were watching...). The valley of Llyn Eigiau was very very windy!! We then headed up to Llandudno & Great Orme Head where we ate fish & ... read more

Wednesday was the best weather day so we headed over to Snowdonia to go up Cadair Idris by the Mynffordd path. I've done this was a couple of times before, once with Vicky but it was new to Chavaunne. We climbed up to Llyn Cau and ate lunch overlooking the lake hoping the clouds on the mountain tops would lift. We climbed higher and were contemplating the final ascent of Craig Cwm Amarch when the cloud got lower so since we already had good views & I knew how hard to find the path beyond the summits was we turned back & the cloud followed us down for some way before turning into rain! Lots of inappropriately clothed walkers about though.... We got down before the cafe closed & treated ourselves to tea & cake whilst ... read more

Monday was rainy so we had a lazy day. We headed out to visit a farm shop at Hawarden where we got some lamb to roast & stopped briefly at the airport fro Vix but there was only one large plane & a rather soggy pheasant. Vix & Chavaunne rode the ponies when the rain stopped in the afternoon & we slow roasted the lamb in the rayburn for supper. Tuesday the weather was better so we did a warm up walk (in prep for Cadair Idris) along part of Offa's Dyke Walk via two ironage hill forts - Penycloddiau & Moel Arthur. Good wlk with lovely view but a bit stepper than planned at the start & end, & the walk wasn't helped by a farmer who had tied a gate sut along a bridleway! ... read more

Saturday morning i drove to Vicky's, transferred my luggae to her car & headed off up the M40, stopping briefly ar Warwick services where we sad to discover Tossed don't have an outlet at the northbound services but compenstated for the loss of tasty wraps with a big plate of chips! Continued north & west into Wales and arrived at the house around 4pm where Chavaunne shortly joined us & we had tea & cake. After an interlude to visit & feed the ponies we graduated to wine & bean stew for supper before washing it down with more wine & crisps! Sunday we had a lazy start and went for a walk from the house around local farms & up the hill behind the house. This included a field of very friendly bullocks, a farmer ... read more

Sadly when the tyres went on our car one of the wheels was cracked so we can to drive on the spare. Not wanting to travel all the way home limited to 50mph mark did sone phoning round & found our best option was to get a new wheel in Glasgow on our way back. Unfortunately they closed at midday on saturdays if we wanted them to fit it too we'd have to get there for 10:30am. This meant leaving the cottage by 6:30am (leaving the others to finish cleaning up). It meant we has a beautiful drive through the dawn and saw the sunrise over Glencoe. Too dark to spot seals or otters in the loch but we did scare up several snipe or woodcock from the road/verges (I didn't get a great look at ... read more

Another beautiful day so we set out in the morning to explore Castle Tioram & Loch Moidart. The tide wasn't quite out enought to let us reach the castle with dry feet so we decided to do the walk first. We set off along a narrow, rocky path along the edge of Loch Moidart with stunning views of the castle, loch and autumnal foliage. We also got a glimpse of a couple of otters on a rock, we continued quietly along the track to get a better view & them spotted more swimming over! We were then privileged enough to get a fabulous view of a family of otters interacting on the rocky islet below us! So magical! We continued the walk along the loch past more breathtaking scenery before taking a small path up the ... read more

We got up in time to have sausages & eggs for breakfast and still get off in time to make the Kilchoan ferry to Mull. It was very wet out and sadly we never made it to the island as a few miles outside Kilchoan both our tyres blew - due to an arguement with the edge of the road! The first went suddenly so we performed the quickest tyre change ever in the rain (I say we, I was hiding from the rain behind the car!) & set off with hopes of just making the ferry, but when the second went a hundred yards down the road we gave up & called the RAC. Well, first we called the local garage, then the AA (as Mark's bank had changed providers without us noticing). We eventually ... read more
