We couldn't lie in too long as the B&B owners were off on holiday on the Sunday (this wasn't their fault, their plans got changed at the last minute) - she did let us leave & lock up ourselves though. We headed up to the barn to help my parents & some friends to take down the decorations. Some went to Kate & Tom for their wedding in September, others (plus some presents) got taken by Vix & Neil to drop off to us at a later date. We headed off a bit later than planned & stopped in Abergavenny for lunch & to wander around the steam fayre that was there. We also grabbed some groceries to suppliment our supply of wedding leftovers! Mark drove us over to the far end of the country & ... read more

The big day dawned & we had a tasty breakfast, showered & headed up to the barn to put on the finishing touches. I then got changed & Vix drove me over to Cheltenham for the legal bit at the registry office withnessed by close family & a few friends only. Very simple but nice ceremony there. We then headed back to Postlip for a quick bite & anothger change into the real wedding clothes! Mark got changed & headed down to the barn to meet & greet the guests whilst Clare, Vix & Zahira got th task of making me look as pretty as possible! Running a tad late the lovely B&B owner ran us down in her 4x4. Just as we were catching our breaths we heard the entrance music playing - Saffron's Wedding ... read more

So the morning was a hectic rush of loading a good portion of the wedding bits & bobs plus all out honeymoon stuff into the car - amazingly it all fitted with room to see out! We arrived at Postlip Tithe Barn late morning to find mum already sorting out her carload! Many friends turned up to help turn a working barn into a magical hall. We had a team (including myself) putting up the swagging, another making bows to go with it, a couple of lads hanging the wonderful bunting (made by lots of friends!), Mark & Dad strung up the fairy lights & cloth behind the stage, the table & chairs were put up, stage arranged, mum & Clare worked wonders with the flowers! I apologise for turning into Bride-zilla but everyone wanted me ... read more

So on Thurday morning we left Alice Springs and flew to Melbourne. Here we stayed in St Kilda again and had fun wandering up & down the sea front, walking on the beach & strolling dowm the pier arm in arm. We also found a Little Penguin in the rocks at he end of the pier. Friday afternoon we St Kilda & headed for the airport. After grabbing a quick supper we hopped onto our plane & left sunny Australia headed towards cold England. The plane stopped at Singapore but we didn't bother getting off as we'd have to take everything off then back on. I mostly slept on the Singapore-Dubai leg using Mark as a pillow! Luckily we had two seats to ourselves so we had a bit more room to stretch out a little. ... read more

After a week of early starts it was nice not to have to get up early or vacate the room by 10am. We had a lazy morning then wandered into the centre where we had lunch at a vegetarian Chinese tea room (but failed to get any tea - it was too hot for hot drinks!) which Mark loved but I was slightly disconcerned that I couldn't figure out what some of the food was! We then popped along to the Alice Springs Reptile Centre where we were in time to meet some of the animals - a couple of Beared Dragons, a Blue-Tongue Skink & an Olive Python. It was nice that we were trusted to hand the lizards around between ourselves instead of having a member of staff hovering over every move. We were ... read more

Whilst I was trying to catch some sleep in the hospital on Tuesday morning Mark got to enjoy an extra morning of the tour before bussing back up to Alice Springs to join me. Hence I'll let him write the bulk of this post! Alrighty then. What to say, what to say? Uh. Well. I guess I got back to camp at about 23:00. Our intrepid bus driver Ben was waiting up. Very noble. I filled him in on unfolding events and he pushed a plate of food that had been saved infront of me. Two 'Roo steaks, two buffalo sausages, a single slice of tomato and a single potato wedge. Hunger satisfied I went to next door's unoccupied camp to secure a tent. For all I know any of the ones I knocked on in ... read more

So once more we were up & out with a new 3 day tour group & a new driver, Ben. We headed south from Alice Springs & stopped off at a camel ranch where I got to ride a camel, which was much more comfortable than I'd been led to believe! Only a short ride around the field though. We then had a couple of pit stops at Eldunda & Curtin Springs where Mark bought me a flask & patch for my bag & a slice of homemade chocolate cake to be my birthday cake! We stopped off at the camp site to have lunch then headed to the Uluru cultural centre where we learnt lots about the local culture & managed to hide from the midday sun! We then headed off to the Kata Tjutas ... read more

Woke up to a beautiful orange sunrise outside our tent this morning :) As I was packing up my stuff with the tent door open I felt something on my backside, thinking it was Mark I turned around only to be confronted by a horse!!! We set off down the Stuart Highway once more & first stop of the day was the Devil's Marbles - an interesting array of boulders sat on top of each other. They are composed of layers of rock which fall off like an egg shell! Some of the rocks even sound hollow where the outer shell has separated from the inner layers. After wandering around, scrambling up rocks & taking a few compulsory silly photos we headed down the road to Eliot, the UFO capital of the Northern Territory! After failing ... read more

Up early in the New Year & Mark went to wake Travers who didn't show for breakfast as his alarm failed to go off! We failed to get to the thermal pools for a swim due to 2m of water on the road. We then headed to Larrimah to the Pink Panther Pub. The pub owner started rescuing animals and now has a little menagerie out back. Here we got to hold a Children's Python & a little Sugar Glider (who was just the cutest!) - although not too closely together! They had several lizards & snakes, many many birds including a Blue-Winged Kookaburra which we saw fed on the wing. There were two adorable wallabies hopping around the place that liked to be scratched on their bellies. Mark now thinks we need to get pet ... read more

This tour pick up time was 05:40, so we were up & out with Sylvia & Aurelie (who were also doing the full 9 days tour with us) to meet Travers our driver for this stretch. After picking up three travellers from Hong Kong we headed down the Stuart Highway back to Adelaide River where we saw Charlie the Buffalo (from Crocodile Dundee) then went to the Nitmiluk NP to see the Edith Falls. Usually you can swim here but the heavy rain & flooding has allowed Salties into the pool. We did pop up to the lookout point & the upper falls where we could cool down in the spray without being eaten by crocs! We then drove down to Katherine & took a boat trip up the Katherine Gorge. Unfortunately due to the rain ... read more
