Geo: 42.3585, -71.0596We were up early for our last Luques breakfast before Lorie's shuttle picked us up for the trip to the airport for our flight to Boston. We flew with Virgin America and had a perfectly pleasant flight. After arriving at Logan Airport. we caught two taxis to our hotel, The Lenox in the Back Bay. We had booked an executive room with a fireplace, as we knew that Boston would be cold. Luckily for S and J, they too were upgraded to a fireplace room. Here is my review of the Lenox Hotel: https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g60745-d114134-r356682737-Lenox_Hotel-Boston_Massachusetts.htmlWe had a late dinner at Sola's Irish Pub in the hotel, before sharing a nightcap before the fire.... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42We started our day with the usual breakfast at Luques, followed by hopping onto the F Line tram to the Ferry Building Marketplace. On Saturdays, there is a big farmer's market here, which we wanted to see, along with the beautiful bay views. It was then lunch time so we headed back to the hotel and this time got to eat lunch at Luques. I had a grilled cheese and bacon and I have to say that the lunch was as good as the breakfasts there. We caught a cable car from outside the hotel to the Cable Car Museum. This was our first visit here. It is free to enter and well worth a visit. As well as the museum, this building is where the cables that run the whole system are. There ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42Today was mainly spent walking! We caught the Cable Car with the intention of getting off at the top of the windy part of Lombard Street and walking down. Unfortunately for us, we got on the wrong car which dropped us at the bottom of Lombard Street. It is a very long, very steep walk back up to the top! Once we finally reached the top, we then proceeded to walk back down, stopping for photos along the way. Then we continued to walk, and walk, and walk until we reached Coit Tower. We had spent so much time walking there that unfortunately we didn't have time or go up as S & J and the boys had bookings for the night tour of Alcatraz later in the day and we had other things ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42Today was the day for our private tour with Dylan's Tours. First was a wonderful full breakfast in Luques, the Chancellor's restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. Our room rate included a $25 per room per day credit, that just about covered the bill.We were picked up smack on time by Andreas from Dylan's in a large comfortable van that sat all eight of us easily.Andreas was terrific, he had a great knowledge and obvious love of the city which he was happy to share. First he took us to the Mission District where we got out and spent half an hour or so wandering the streets taking photos of all the amazing street art. Luckily we had a beautiful sunny day, even though it was the middle of winter. We then drove through ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42Once we had arrived at Tullamarine Airport we found that check in was surprisingly quick, as we had been unable to check in online for some reason. We had a celebratory glass of bubbles in the Vue de Monde café before boarding the Qantas A380 bound for LAX. The flight went relatively quickly. We had preordered our meals, although the cabin crew seemed unaware of this system, we all ended up with what we wanted. We all got a little bit of sleep before arriving in LAX. Immigration and rechecking our luggage went smoothly and we walked to the terminal for our domestic flight to San Francisco. We had prebooked a private Lori's Shuttle and they were waiting for us. We quickly arrived at our hotel, the Chancellor on Union Square, where we had ... read more

Geo: -37.814, 144.963This trip was a family trip for G and I and our son, who were travelling with our brother and sister-in-law S and J and their three boys. For the first time in a very long time, we had an early morning flight out of Melbourne, instead of our usual late evening flight. Due to road works on the West Gate and Bolte Bridges and fear of peak hour traffic accidents and so on, we decided to book a night at the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport for the night before our flight. This worked beautifully. We arrived at around 4.00pm and S & J and the boys were already there. We had time to relax with a couple of drinks before having a surprisingly good dinner in the restaurant of the Holiday Inn before a ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823Well our last day, sadly. Our hotel kindly granted us a complimentary late checkout, but unfortunately not in the same room. Totally understandable, as our room was a premium one with a balcony and sensational view, but they set us up in a small single with a large bathroom, so ideal for us to store our bags and be able to go and shower and freshen up before our late evening flight home to Melbourne. After our final breakfast we walked to the nearby Campo dei Fiori for another look at the market. We then moved onto the Spanish Steps for another look around this area and do some last minute shopping for souvenirs for the family. We decided to fritter a couple of hours with a final lazy Italian lunch at Ciampini. This ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823Today was sadly our last full day in Italy. We decided to spend it walking around parts of Rome that we hadn't yet seen. Originally our plan had been to visit Appia Antica and to try and see the viaducts, but once the day arrived we couldn't really be bothered with working out how to get to and from so we decided to stay within walking distance of the hotel. We headed off and ended up at the huge area of Circus Maximus which G had heard about in so many of his epic theatre movies. We then wandered back slightly to visit the Mouth of Truth and take the obligatory photo with our hands in the mouth as well as view the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. We were very close to the ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823This morning we had to sadly check out of the beautiful Bellevue Syrene for our transfer back to Rome.As with our arrival, our transfer was booked with Rainbow Limos and it was another excellent trip. This time our driver was Giulia, the matriarch of the family and a lovely lady. She whisked us to Napoli station in good time, after taking us on a bit of a driving tour of Naples. I have to admit to being a little shocked at the condition that a lot of Naples was in. Giulia was adamant that no-one should stay in Naples itself, that it was simply too dangerous! I must admit that the little we saw made me very glad we decided not to come yesterday.Even the station felt creepy compared to the many other stations ... read more

Geo: 40.6237, 14.381Today was our last full day in Sorrento. We had tossed up whether to do another day trip back to the Amalfi Coast or go to another island, or possibly Naples, but decided to simply take it easy and stay in Sorrento. We spent the morning wandering the town of Sorrento. We loved the area right on the coast, but were not so keen on the hotels and scenery once we moved away from the sea views. We wandered in and out of shops buying a few souvenirs before heading to the very pretty Cloisters for a look around. I had read about the Valley of the Mills on Trip Advisor so we then decided to find it before lunch. It turned out it wasn't far at all and we pretty well tripped over ... read more
