Once we had arrived at Tullamarine Airport we found that check in was surprisingly quick, as we had been unable to check in online for some reason. We had a celebratory glass of bubbles in the Vue de Monde café before boarding the Qantas A380 bound for LAX. The flight went relatively quickly. We had preordered our meals, although the cabin crew seemed unaware of this system, we all ended up with what we wanted. We all got a little bit of sleep before arriving in LAX. Immigration and rechecking our luggage went smoothly and we walked to the terminal for our domestic flight to San Francisco. We had prebooked a private Lori's Shuttle and they were waiting for us.

We quickly arrived at our hotel, the Chancellor on Union Square, where we had stayed last time. Our rooms were ready so we checked in and unpacked. After we had got settled into our rooms and had a quick shower and freshen up, we headed up the street to Lori's Diner for a quick lunch. This was the first real taste of the US for S & J, a classic diner. I had their grilled cheese, which was as good

as I remembered from last time.

My review of the hotel can be read here:After our quick lunch, we went for a long walk to show them a little of the city and to assist with resetting our body clocks. We had a dinner booking the next night at Sotto Mare in North Beach, so we walked down there to check out where it was.

We walked right through Chinatown and down into North Beach. Unfortunately, the rain started to come down very heavily so we headed back to Union Square for a look around Macy's, which seemed much more expensive than on our last trip in 2009.

Dinner that night was next door at Sear's Fine Foods. I ate Boneless Short Ribs with Mash, which was delicious. The waiter was funny and pleasant, up until after tipping him generously with cash, he attempted to also add 20%!t(MISSING)o our credit card bill. Luckily we noticed and had it removed. A 40%!t(MISSING)ip was just a tad high!
