拿掉防卫乘下什么,我不知道。 But I know that in front of C and S, there is no need to be pretentious. 5 months have passed since the 3 of us last met based on my last entry on 13th May 2008. C have just completed her central Japan travels with her family. In a way, it was fortunate that her parents were avid travellers where her notion of "family vacation" occurs once a year. For us, it never happened and I guess "family vacation" remains a taboo in my travel journals. There were just too many "excuses" and too many "what ifs". This aside, I was happy that C had finally found time amidst her busy schedule to enjoy Japan in her own way. Her trip was nice with the minor exception of Tokyo Disneyland as she recalls. No lavish presentations, no posers. Yet, the best... 18th October 2008 was a memorable day for my best friend of 16 years and his wife-to-be. Friends since 1992, he was my buddy during our growing up years. The time spent at AMK Mcdonalds in the early days with Patsy and Zy till the Langkawi trip with his wife, it was my pleasure to be part of the growing experience. The past 16 years witnessed the growth of our adolescence to adulthood, from fearful teenagers to confident adults. How many 16 years would you have in your life time? Certainly, for most of us, we had grown older and yet wiser in dealing with the challenges of life. The day started early for all of us as I made my way to his flat at 8am. This ... read more

The other day, I decided to create a "Places I've Visited Map" and hang it on the IKEA board in my room. Here's the end result. Conclusion: Still shuttling up and down the Asia Pacific region after all these years. While it doesn't look too impressive, the minor achievement was there was generally an in-depth coverage of the places I've visited. ... read more

You should catch Mamma Mia the movie if you: Love the songs of the Swedish Group ABBA Missed (Miss) the Mamma Mia Musical at the Esplanade Theatre You feel excited when “Dancing Queen” is played at Zouk on Wednesdays' evening. I’m not sure if this movie would become a box office hit in Singapore. But judging from the response from the movie-goers, their songs have a certain level of appeal in Singapore. 26 years after their final curtain call, their legacy lives on today for some. Catch it if you can when the movie officially opens tomorrow. “Thank You for The Music!” ... read more

My last trip to Taiwan was fulifiling and challenging as I was very much involved in the pre-trip planning process. However, once in a while, it was always nice to have everything worked out for you. And all you have to do is to just follow and enjoy the journey...... Where: Kuantan, Malaysia What: A Factory Visit Start: Friday, 12th September 2008, 8.30pm End: Saturday, 13th September 2008, 10.30pm Costs: S$170 (fully subsidised) About 7 hours drive from Singapore brought us to the city of Kuantan, the state capital for the state of Pahang (the same state for Genting Highlands). Located along the eastern coast of Penisula Malaysia, Kuantan and its surrounds boast beautiful shorelines and lovely beaches. Reaching Kuantan at about 3.30am, we did not have the luxury of time to linger around in the ... read more

While the world is mourning for the loss of yet another pop legend MJ these days, mourning took on a different meaning for me ..... From a traveller's point of view, the greatest loss would be the closure of Taipei's Maokong Gondola for an indefinite period of time. Never mind if my tribute came 9 months late. It was only while dishing out information from the tripadvisor forums that it occured to me that the system had been closed since October 2008. I first rode on the gondola during my last visit in August 2008. The challenge of even boarding it frustrated me. Long queues killed the patience in me. The pictures were evident in that I started queueing when the sun was still high up in the sky till darkness finally welcomed me. Even after ... read more

Quoting the words of 阿布 in the now defunct "冒险王" on Channel U, "我永远无法忘记这趟旅程,因为是它让我看到一个更全面的台湾!" Since I started writing way back in 2005, this has been my 101th entry in this travel blog space. This number coincides with the landmark of Taiwan, the Taipei 101 International Financial Centre. And this is where I had spent my last 8 days over the past week. The thoughts for this entry were penned down at the Burger King Restaurant at Taoyuan International Airport prior to my flight to Singapore. Anyway, completing my tour of duty of Taiwan was great as I said good bye to this beautiful island for the last time yesterday. I shouldn't be contemplating another visit of this island anytime soon as I had gotten too "comfortable" with the environment. I should be moving on to uncover ... read more

Friday, 22nd August 2008 ~ Back to where I started My final day in Taipei was spent within the city itself. Having moved back to City Inn on my final day, I was again within striking distance from the Taipei Main Station. Old favourites like Taipei 101 and the Discovery Centre of Taipei remained. I also managed to combed through the Yong Kang Street as recommended by my hotel friendly staffs. Overall, it was an eventful day as new places were discovered amidst a familiar backdrop. As my 8 day trip came to an end, I promised that there would be a next time for me. Kaoshiung and Tainan should be my next port of entry if another trip were to materialise. Until then, it was farewell to the friendly Taiwanese folks. ... read more

Thursday, 21st August 2008 ~ Another hot hot day in Taipei!! Lesson Learnt: Never trust a guidebook totally. At least that's how I feel after my half day tour of Pinglin this morning. Pinglin, a township famous for the Bao Chun Tea Leaves would probably only appeal to tea lovers out there. Coming down from Taipei, I took the Metro to the terminal station at Xindian before catching the bus to Pinglin. The 1 hour bus journey was tortouous as it was going through a series of bends before reaching my destination. Throughout the journey, I had no mood to enjoy the greenery outside the window as I was feeling nauseous from the ride. Halfway through the bus journey, I sensed something was amissed as the only passengers on board the bus were the uncles and ... read more

Wednesday, 20th August 2008 Once again, I set foot to the once familiar Taipei this afternoon after a 2-hour train journey from Hualien. I would be staying in Taipei for my final 3 nights before flying home on Saturday evening. As I had not made any hotel arrangements earlier, I decided to try my luck at Future Star Hotel, a familiar name which I had stayed with Clare during our last visit 3 years back. I was lucky that they were not full for the next 2 days. The decor had not changed a bit and the reception area still reminded me of a KTV lounge. Check-in was fuss free. The NT1080 guest room which I stayed in (the cheapest category) were getting a little worn out but I did not mind since it came with ... read more
