Visit Kuching if you:- 1) Are a staunch lover for all things Kuchinta, the cat. Aside from the numerous cat statutes littered in different corners, there is a Cat Museum located at the northern suburbs of the city. Of course, beware of real cats roaming along the streets as well. 2) Are a museum hopper. It's free entry for all to the well-run Sarawak State Museum, the mini Chinese Museum and the Textile Museum. A cool respite the blazing sun. I love the displays at the Japanese Occupation Gallery. Though limited, it was generally informative. 3) Can't get enough of the Singapore River. The Sarawak River disects the city into the northern and southern districts. The waterfront along the Main Bazaar is a major draw with beautiful sunsets and plenty of eateries. 4) Love the High ... read more

My search for a home in the Cat City I arrived at the spanking new Kuching International Airport shortly after 4.30pm on Labour Day 2009. First impression of the modern airport was good and there were boarding bridges connecting the Tiger Airways flight to the Terminal Building. We were led to the makeshift table where we filled up the health declaration forms and had our temperatures taken. “36.5 Degrees sir!” I was given the all clear signal to proceed to the customs. I wondered what could have happened if I was diagnosed with a fever. Would I be asked to catch the next connecting flight back to Singapore? I picked up the expensive RM 30 taxi coupon and a city map of Kuching which would bring me to my accommodation at the city centre. Due to ... read more

I love my life, I love what I'm doing, and I will take care As I prepared for the 3pm flight to Kuching, these were the thoughts that flashed through my mind. I'm thankful for all the concerns out there but certainly I would prefer to hear "enjoy your experience" coming from the concerned folks. Having being out of Singapore countless of times over the past 7 years, I've probably seen the best and worst. Every trip is a gamble because I won't know what to expect after I have done it and recounting those experiences in this blog. Often, we heard from fellow travellers returning back from their holidays and lamenting their good and bad experiences. We heed their remarks seriously and use them as a yardstick to determine our next destination (me included). "那个地方很落后,一点都不好玩!" ... read more

Saturday, 25th April 2009 Ever since I left my previous employer late last year, our monthly lunch outing with S have to be rescheduled to weekends. Last Saturday marked our 24th outing since I left my first job in April 2007. Thanks to the HSBC 1 For 1 Hi-Tea Promotion, we need not have to spend a huge fortune to dine at the Chatterbox Restaurant. This was yet another great find at the heart of Orchard Road. Located at the 39th Floor of the Meritius Mandarin, Chatterbox commanded an excellent vantage point of Singapore. The restaurant no longer revolves but we were seated next to the window where we could take in the view of the city as well as the central catchment area of Singapore. The view itself was well worth the $18 we paid ... read more

天冷就回来 ~ A Cool Respite from the Summer Mayhem Saturday, 18th April 2009 Afternoon Matinee @ 2.30pm What better way than to spend three hours in air-conditioned comfort to catch the latest instalment of “If There're Seasons”. Two years have passed since the sold out muscial debuted at the Drama Centre Theatre in August 2007. There was generally a certain level of expectation arising from the success of the previous season. Two years on, some changes have been made to the main casts to include 2005 Project Superstar’s runner-up, Sing Chew (石欣卉) and the multi-talented Jeffrey Low (which Mr B recognized as his schoolmate from his bygone era). Together with the likes of old timers, Joanna Dong & George Chan, the star-stubbed combination was certainly timely to add a new zest in this latest production. "There ... read more

Day 1: The Breakfast Saga Yesterday was a roller coastal ride at the hotel reception as we went back and forth in requesting for our missing breakfast vouchers. We booked 2 rooms over the internet and only to find one room was ready when we arrived at 12.30pm. This was quite normal I supposed. Afterall, we arrived earlier than the standard check-in time. Though I was quite surprised that check-in for the other room took more than 20 minutes even though there was only one guest ahead of us. The saga started at 2pm when the second set of room keys was issued. The reception had claimed that they had already issued those vouchers earlier but I had to repeat myself that they had not given them to us. I had to show them the set ... read more

10th April 2009 ~ The City of 哥打京那巴鲁 Five of us booked our air tickets to Kota Kinabalu (KK), the state capital of Sabah way back in mid-December 2008. Since none of us had ever been to East Malaysia, we were generally excited of the new experience. The 2 hour flight cruised through the skies of South China Sea and whisked through the likes of Sarawak and the oil-rich Brunei Darussalam before touching down at KK International Airport on the afternoon of 10th April 2009. The city of KK was surprisingly compact and easy to get around on foot. Other than the relatively expensive taxi ride from the airport, we spent the rest of our day exploring the city by foot. Trekking up the signal hill observatory in the evening was the highlight of Day 1. ... read more

As we did our rounds last Saturday @ Lorong 4 Toa Payoh, the plight of some of the elderly folks staying in the 1-bedroom flats struck me. For some, it must have been quite sometime since they welcomed their last visitor. I could feel that they longed that we could spend more time talking to them. They were happy that we managed to pop by and distribute the provisions which could probably see them through for the next month. As we bade goodbye to the old folks and volunteers, it was uncertain if there would be another community event this year in the wake of the financial crisis. ... read more

"Life is not always the party we expected to be but as long as we are here, we should smile and be grateful." How true! This quote came from J, a classmate of mine whom I have known more than 15 years back. Lately, she posted this quote in her facebook and immediately, it struck a chord in me. Recently, I've came across a couple of articles with similiar meanings. Other beings have their rights to be critical and judgemental of the way we do things. But as long as we have a sense of self worth, we should not let those remarks hurt our day. ... read more

All right. Budokan, 棕子 have mentioned that he would be taking a break from his regular blogging activities and promised that he won't be adding another junk mail in your mailbox. However, one should never count on his words as a leopard will never change his spots. Just 13 days after his final entry, he found ways to add another into his travel bucket. Merely 3 months after his last Dinner and Dance at Kentucky, he attended another last Friday evening at the posh R Hotel. For somebody who is relatively unfamiliar with the area, he was lucky to bump into his former colleague, Y who gave him directions from Marina Square. However, he soon lost his way again as there were no signs pointing to the R Hotel from Marina Square. On his way, he ... read more
