I finally figured out why we are always waking up so early and heading out to visit temples or palaces. It is so cool in the mornings and our guide does not want us overheating so he schedules outdoor activities during the morning and tries to schedule museums or indoor activities in the afternoon. I am very grateful for that as it is so hot here. It actually is only in the mid 90's but with high humidity and no wind it is HOT! Our first stop this morning was the Royal Palace in Cambodia. The architecture of this Palace was definitely the prettiest I have seen so far on this trip. The buildings were just so beautiful I could not stop taking pictures. I may have posted too many of the palace but I was ... read more

Today we are off to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We are flying on Vietnam Airlines on an A320. I had asked at the counter for an aisle seat or exit row, but he said he didn't have any so I got stuck on a window seat with no window right in front of the exit row so my seat didn't recline. I guess the guy at the counter really didn't like me. Anyways it was only an 1.5 hour flight so it wasn't too bad, but it was a full flight. We all boarded our new bus in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and this is by far the nicest bus we've had so far on the tour. It has so much leg room it is amazing and everyone has two seats to themselves. It also has a great ... read more

We are now half way through our tour and I still can't believe it. I really have to keep telling myself that we are in Asia, and especially in Laos. I never thought I'd ever come here, but it really is amazing. The food has really been incredible and the people are so friendly. I knew I would enjoy myself and find Asia interesting, but I never knew I would be having this much fun and learning so much and having such a great time doing it. Today is our only full day in Vientiane, Laos so we started a day with a tour of the city. Of course our first stop is a local temple. Our guide joked with us that OAT does not stand for Overseas Adventure Travel, but stands for Oh, Another Temple. ... read more

Today we are flying to Vientiane so everyone on our tour loaded all of our bags onto a bus, but first we all got on some more tuk tuks for a tour of the royal palace. The palace was really beautiful. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take any pictures so all I have are pictures of the outside as well as the Temple on the grounds. We then took the tuk tuks to the edge of town where we met the bus to take us to the airport. Luang Prabang airport only has two gates, but when we arrived there were a lot of people waiting to check in for several flights. It took quite a while for everyone to check in and then we all had to go through security and by the time ... read more

We took most of the day off from the tour today. Drury and I were pretty tired so we decided to stay in town and relax and do a little sightseeing on our own. We slept in and got a little breakfast at the hotel before taking a tuk tuk into town. We walked a little through the town and decided to have lunch at a bakery. After lunch we decided to go get massages. Margo and Drury both got a foot massage and I decided to get an oil massage. It was a pretty good massage even though it was hot and the only thing dividing the rooms was a thin curtain. We did some shopping on the main street and Drury and I found some great wood art pieces we wanted, but we couldn't ... read more

Today was an extremely early morning as we met our group at 5:15am in the lobby of the hotel to give alms to the monks. We all got in our Tuk Tuks and headed to the temple close to the town center. It was still pretty dark when our guide Lou gave us a brief tour of the grounds of the temple and then told us what to expect and how to give alms to the monks. We all sat on these little plastic pre-school chairs in front of the temple all lined up in a neat row. We were then all handed a basket of sticky rice that we would ball up into bite size pieces and hand to the monks as they passed by. We were not allowed to touch the monks but were ... read more

This morning we are off to Laos. Our tour met in the lobby and we left the hotel about 7:15am and headed to the Bangkok airport. The Bangkok airport is a massive airport, apparently a plane lands on average every five minutes 24/7. After everyone received their boarding passes Drury and I saw a Post Office and decided to mail a package home that was filled with things we had bought the past few days in Thailand. Our tour guide helped us and what we thought would only take a few minutes wound up taking over a half hour. Our tour guide started to get nervous as we till had to go through security as well as immigration. Immigration line was very long and the rest of the tour was already waiting at the gate. After ... read more

Woke up early today for our long drive to the floating market. We met our group at 7:30am and then all loaded up on the bus for an about a two hour journey to the floating market. I was fortunate enough to grab the front seat of the bus as I wanted to take some good pictures and really see the country side. We arrived at a river bank and boarded a long motor boat and cruised through several canals. This was a fun boat ride as the boat is extremely thin and does rock from side to side so it was a little nerve racking but definitely a lot of fun. We cruised past several homes and even a monastery before we arrived at the floating market. We got off our motorized boat and had ... read more

Today was an incredible day in Bangkok! We really had a great time and were completely overwhelmed by the beauty and just everything about this country today. We had to wake up early to head for the Royal Palace and we are glad we went early as the temperature really is not that bad in the mornings. By mid-afternoon it is hot, but for the most part it hasn't been that bad. When we got off the bus outside of the palace we were immediately part of a very large crowd of tourists (mostly Chinese) as we all headed to the palace with our tour guides. There were so many people touring the palace it was amazing. It really started to feel like we were in Asia as the crowds were unbelievable. The Royal Palace is ... read more

Yesterday Drury and I had to leave The Peninsula behind as we had to switch hotels to meet up with our tour. We had The Peninsula drive us to our new hotel called At Ease in their BMW. We found out that it was a long holiday weekend in Bangkok and the traffic throughout the city had been light all weekend. Transferring to the new hotel on Tuesday was quite an ordeal in traffic as apparently, Bangkok is the third worst traffic city in the world behind Rio and Mexico City. We arrived at the hotel and met up with Margo and then the three of us headed out to go get foot massages again. We found a place close to the hotel and all had an excellent massage. We then met up with Margo's parents ... read more
