Woke up early today for our long drive to the floating market. We met our group at 7:30am and then all loaded up on the bus for an about a two hour journey to the floating market. I was fortunate enough to grab the front seat of the bus as I wanted to take some good pictures and really see the country side.
We arrived at a river bank and boarded a long motor boat and cruised through several canals. This was a fun boat ride as the boat is extremely thin and does rock from side to side so it was a little nerve racking but definitely a lot of fun. We cruised past several homes and even a monastery before we arrived at the floating market.
We got off our motorized boat and had to walk through a large market before arriving at the floating market where we boarded paddle boats. Before boarding the paddle boat Drury and I both got a picture with a large python. Now for those of you that no me well, I am petrified of snakes. This was definitely my fear factor come to life! But being in Thailand and seeing someone
else doing it, I felt I had to try and overcome my fear and hold a snake. As you can see by the photos, I was not a happy camper and definitely had to fake a large smile. Drury also conquered his fear of snakes and posed for some photos. I laughed because just before we arrived at the floating market, Drury received a text from his sister saying not to take a picture with a cobra. After Drury posed with the snake he immediately sent his sister a photo and said, "Well, at least it's not a cobra." She called us crazy and I think we were temporarily insane as well.
We boarded the paddle boat and floated through the floating market. Drury bought some Thai pants and we sailed through the market looking at all of the fruits and goods for sale. Some of the boats were even floating restaurant that would cook your lunch.
When we got off the boat we had about 30 minutes to do some shopping at a large market before heading off to a coconut farm. We wound up buying a beautiful head dress, a table runner, and some silk shirts.
There was definitely a lot of beautiful things to buy in the market but we didn't really have the time or the luggage space.
The coconut farm was cool as we got to see how they make coconut sugar and met a nice family that own the farm. We then headed off to lunch at a mangrove field. Lunch was INCREDIBLE! The food in Thailand is really amazing! We had some great shrimp, fish with a delicious sauce and some type of seaweed and peanut salad. It was so good.
After lunch it was time time to get on another boat and go see some monkeys. After pulling into a small canal we noticed a lot of monkeys coming out of the trees towards us. They know that when the tourists arrive it's time to eat. We fed the monkeys and it was amazing as there were probably over 50 at one time. One of them even had the nerve to get on the boat and got really close to Drury before he grabbed his banana and took off back to shore.
We had a long drive back to Bangkok and traffic in the city is really
bad. Once back at the hotel we relaxed for about 30 minuted before heading out again and having a quick drink and appetizer before heading back to the hotel to pack as tomorrow we leave the hotel early in the morning and fly to Laos.
