Today was an incredible day in Bangkok! We really had a great time and were completely overwhelmed by the beauty and just everything about this country today.
We had to wake up early to head for the Royal Palace and we are glad we went early as the temperature really is not that bad in the mornings. By mid-afternoon it is hot, but for the most part it hasn't been that bad.
When we got off the bus outside of the palace we were immediately part of a very large crowd of tourists (mostly Chinese) as we all headed to the palace with our tour guides. There were so many people touring the palace it was amazing. It really started to feel like we were in Asia as the crowds were unbelievable.
The Royal Palace is absolutely stunning. I had expected it to be nice as it is a palace, but I was not expecting the incredible detail of all of the glass tiles, porcelain, and gold that surrounded the outside of all of the buildings. I posted a lot of photos of us around the palace to try and give everyone an understanding of how ornate and
beautiful the palace is.
The highlight of the Palace is seeing the famous Jade Buddha located in the Temple. You are not allowed to take photos inside the Temple, but I did zoom in and tried to get a good shot of it.
After the palace we walked to the pier a few blocks away for our boat tour of Bangkok. We saw a lot of the modern skyscrapers as well as local homes. We even got to feed some catfish in the river. After the river tour it was off to lunch where I had probably the best fried rice I have ever tasted. It was amazing!
We then waited for a commuter boat to take us to the Sky Train that took us back to the hotel. We passed a massage place where Drury, Margo, and I all got a massage. I made the mistake of ordering a Thai massage where I was poked and prodded into all sorts of crazy positions. It was painful at some points, but by the end it did feel good. Drury made the comment that it sounded like my masseuse and I were fighting and that I was in
pain. It wasn't a relaxing massage but I guess it was a good experience.
After relaxing at the hotel room for a little bit we then gt back on the tour bus and went for our Private River Cruise at night in Bangkok. This was great as we got to see the same part of the river as we did during the day, but now everything was lit up and incredibly beautiful. Again we had in incredible dinner.
After the river cruise, Margo wanted to go get a foot massage so I went with her and got a relaxing Oil Massage which is a lot like a Swedish massage and was a lot more relaxing.
We went to bed early as tomorrow is another big day.
