Goodbye Bangkok, Goodbye Thailand Checked out of Merry V early and went to collect our tickets at the agency. He charged us some extras for the airport taxes and transport fees to the airport. We felt slightly cheated, cos he didn't mention any of these yesterday. At the airport, I remembered about the stupid 'Passenger Service Charge' we have to pay. Vivi noted that the staffs at the airport hardly give any service to deserve the THB500, plus they were quite rude and unfriendly. A few smiles might be nice! On the plane, we felt the old man at the travel agency really had us. He told us the flight was fully-booked, but the plane was more than half-empty! Still, we were really glad we made it home in time for the Lunar New Year reunion ... read more

Day 4 in Bangkok Supposed to wake up about 8am, but we were tired and overslept till 9am plus. We wanted to have an early start, to check out the prices for bus/train or flight home. Asked around a bit and found the cheapest option at Triad Travel Agency (weird name, sounds like some black market travel agency). *Triad Travel Agency - situated along Soi Chana Songkram in a small office next to a small eatery, just opposite Pain Thai Massage. The agency is run by this Thai old man himself and that's maybe why he can get the prices down so much more than the others. He managed to get us some cancelled seats off a flight heading for Singapore tomorrow. It's the Lunar New Year and most flights were packed to the brim (or ... read more

Day 3 in Bangkok We got woken up by the guesthouse staff at around 1pm plus. She must be wondering why we haven't paid our rent for the day yet. Tsk... Can't even let us sleep awhile more. Yawnnnn... *Directions to Mae Boon Kong (MBK) shopping centre - bus no. 15 at the bus stop across the road from our guesthouse. We waited for a damned hour plus for the bus. We were both quite frustrated and had another minor row (one of our many!) over which bus we should have taken in the first place. There was a huge traffic jam and it took quite some time for us to reach MBK. *Mae Boon Kong (MBK) - one of the biggest shopping centres around. It is as big as I had remembered. Think they must ... read more

Day 2 in Bangkok I must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. I took too long to dress up and got ticked off by Vivi again. Feeling that we have not seen enough of Jatujak (okay, okay, we haven't shopped enough), we went to the sweltering weekend market once more. Halfway browsing through some stuff, I lost sight of Vivi (*Sob, sob :( ). There was no way I could find her in this crowd, so I went ahead and shopped on my own. I overdid my shopping and ran out of Thai Baht midway through. I tried to find a currency exchange agency to no avail, so I popped into the tourist police office to ask for directions. Unfortunately, the tourist police doesn't understand any English and I ... read more

Day 1 in Bangkok We arrived in Bangkok at about 5am plus in the morning. Dropped off on the streets of Bangkok, in the middle of who-knows-where. Everyone was accosted by a bunch of vulture-like taxi drivers trying to have a piece of us. We ignored the drivers and stood by a quiet corner to think and assess where the hell in Bangkok were we at. We felt a bit lost, so we just followed some backpackers and wandered into Soi Chana Songkram by chance. Vivi found some of the names of the guesthouses familiar and flipped through the guidebook. And yes, we actually landed right on the lap of a popular backpackers' stretch - the West Bang Lamphu! Very lucky really, considered this is area we intended to stay in. Talking to other backpackers, we ... read more

Leaving Ko Samui today. We woke up early to check out from Charlie's. Had breakfast at Charlie's while waiting for time to pass. We will be catching the 1.30pm ferry from the Nathon pier. I didn't take into account that the songtheaw is extremely slow and gonna travel halfway round the island before dropping us off. We couldn't make it in time for the ferry and ended up missing it instead. I admit it was my fault and we had to pay for another pair of tickets for the 2pm ferry. We had a small squabble about it. When we reached Don Sak pier, we weren't sure on how to get to Surat Thani from there. We didn't know that the ferry tickets we bought actually include a bus ride to Surat Thani and ... read more

It's going to be our last day on this gorgeous island. Don't want to waste our last day here, so we got up early, had our breakfast and checked our emails. We stopped by the Bluefin restaurant and got another map. And just as I was turning into the street, my worst fear came true. I lost control of the motorbike and we both had a bad fall. Vivi sustained a bad scratch on her knee. *One tip I picked up from this guy who helped us when we fell - start the semi-automatic bike in 2nd gear! The motorbike won't jerk too strongly forward when you turn the throttle, compared to starting it in 1st gear. It was a valuable tip, as I was tired and don't really have the strength to control the motorbike ... read more

We were so tired that we slept till about 1pm plus. But we were quite determined to see a few sights, so we rented a motorbike after our breakfast at Ninja Crepe Cafe. We rent an semi-automatic motorbike from Tong's Bar, a bar at the back of the streets just across Charlie's. It is easy to rent a motorbike here. Motorbikes, jeeps and cars rentals everywhere. But it wasn't all that safe to ride a bike here. The roads can be quite rough and steep, and there are lots of reckless drivers waiting for accidents to happen. You should have seen how some of the travellers get a little too excited with their scramblers and went speeding down the narrow roads. However, it is one of the cheapest form of transportation here, so motorbike rentals ... read more

Woke up to a rainy afternoon today. It was raining since early morning, and I really hope that the sun will come out soon. The massage we had yesterday seems to does wonders for my body. Despite dancing throughout the night yesterday, my body hardly aches at all. "Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day." I adore the rains, but it's vacation time! So I do want some sun! I really love it here so much! This is such a beautiful and relaxing island. Oh, I don't ever want my vacation to stop. It is really great to escape all the hustle and bustle of the city and just leave all the worries of the world behind us. We didn't do much in this rainy weather. We just strolled around the ... read more
