Our flight to Thailand was not like expected. When we wanted to check-in at the Brussels airport, we found out that our tour operator had made a mistake. Apparently they booked the outbound flight a day later than planned. In 2003 our airline didn't work with e-tickets yet, so we had to discover this at the airport. If we had to take another flight the day after, we would miss the first day of the (organized) tour. The first part of the flight (Brussels-Frankfurt) would be okay, but at the Brussels airport they couldn't confirm yet, that we were able to take the second part of the flight (Frankfurt-Bangkok). We had to be confident that the people could arrange this when we were on the first flight. They would send our luggage directly to Bangkok, but ... read more

What a night! The full moon was WAY bigger than any new years I have been to. And everyone wants to go mad. Very fun, went to bed after 8am, lost some chunks of memory but not my jandals (onto the fourth pair now). Watched the sun come up over the water. Magical, and also weird because nutters were still dancing in the full light of morning. I am in now in Ko Tao, a small island to the north of Ko Phangan (which is in the Gulf of Thailand). IT IS VERY BEAUTIFUL. Better than Ko Phangan. More peaceful. Less potential to lose sandals. Start my open water diving cert tomorrow, four days. Then am going to do the advanced PADI course. Deeper, night nav etc. Can't wait. I just had the best green curry ... read more

Yes, that is Jesse checking out the island scenery. Snapped. We are in Koh Phangan. It is the stereotypical beach paradise. White sand, blue water, hammocks between coconut trees... horrible place. The full moon party is tomorrow and the place is packed with westerners. There are some beautiful people (read girls) here, my god (nothing like you though Trace...). Not a very cultural experience, but oh well. My trip to Kanchanaburi was very cool. There is new museum about the death railway, which was first class. Saw the bridge on the river Kwai. Stayed on a floating guesthouse and sat around with the others on the trip and got "Chang-ed". Chang beer is about $1.50 for a big bottle at the service station or 7/11 and is 6.4% Alc/vol, brilliant. Floated down the river on a ... read more

Yes, I have arrived, and am loving it. I've got no idea about much, am out of my comfort zone, excellent. Quite a mad place Bangkok compared to Clevedon... Although it’s surprising how familiar the place seems when you are sitting in a bar with a big beer. Its hot. I walked out of the plane and thought "hell its hot for 11pm" but didn't realise the airport was air-conditioned... We arrived into Bangkok at 11pm local time, and went with a mad Thai woman who was on the plane next to us to a hotel in the middle of the business district. Shower, air con, TV, fridge, for $14 each. Dodgy-looking though. First priority today was massage. Had an awesome Thai massage for an hour for $6. The little Thai massage girls loved us and ... read more

The Amazing Kingdom of Thailand March 11-23, 2003 Our vacation in Thailand was a cultural, sensual, idyllic experience from beginning to end, from Bangkok to the hill tribes, from the Buddhist temples to the elephants. No other traveling experience matches exotic Thailand. Visiting is like entering another world of picturesque beauty, natural charm, fascinating history, and lovingly preserved customs. As for the Thais, they are among the most gracious people in the world, and they live happily in their blessed land. Their constant smiles, serene attitudes, and gracious manners were particularly exemplified by our spunky tour guide, Arunya Thawornnanta. What a delight she was! Her shining smile and sense of humor plus the many extra amenities, comforts, and conveniences that she provided made the trip even more memorable and enjoyable. March 11-13, Houston—L.A.—Taipei—Bangkok... read more

The land of the smile :) ... Though the tourism industry has had an enormous impact on the country, it still holds it's amazing history with pride. The only country in Asia never to be colonized by any european nation (I'm pretty sure), While keeping you on your toes with a bombardment of sales people, Thailand is a pretty relaxing place to be, and the people couldn't be more hospitable. ... read more

We got the boat across and found a nice place to stay on the quiet side of Hat Rin - the party beach. After a few days there I decided that I would rather be in Phoenix with Kristen than hang out at this huge party with all these stunningly beautiful people getting loaded. What is the point in travelling and having all this freedom if you don't do what you want to do? ... read more

The border from Cambodia to Thailand was very easy and had reopened that day and I got my free 1-month Thai visa that would take me through to the end of my 6 months in Asia. Apparently there was a television camera there and the border hadn't been reopened to the Cambodians yet. The bus ride to Bangkok was great - a very luxurious minivan after the ones in Cambodia, and I arrived at Khao San road at 4pm. My plans were to get to an island called Ko Tao to do a dive course, and I decided that it would be ideal to leave as soon as possible. I bought a ticket on the 8 o団lock bus that would transfer me to a boat and take me right to Ko Tao for the next morning ... read more

Ellers saa skjedde det sproeste her paa mandagen da. Vel, tror du faen meg ikke ... read more
