The overnight bus down to Saigon was spectacular. I ended up with the entire back row of five seats all to myself, so I lounged out and pretended it was a bed. Definitely one of the more pleasant overnight trips yet. I ended up in a really nice guesthouse in Saigon, centrally located, complete with a huge bed, air conditioning, and a refrigerator, all for $8 per night. And a Bia Hoi stand was right next door. I spent the first day catching up on some sleep and then went to the War Remnants museum, previously known as the American War Crimes Museum. It's really striking how different things can be portrayed depending on where you are. I was literally jaw dropped several times. I definitely missed the day in school when we learned about this ... read more

So today we are traveling north to Bangkok on our Air Asia flight. It was scheduled to depart at 1:10pm this afternoon and upon our arrival to the airport, we discovered that it's been delayed until 2:55pm!! Luckily there is internet. We left Koh Pha-Ngan yesterday at noon to catch the 1pm ferry over to Surat Thani. We bought a combo ticket that got us the taxi ride to the ferry and the ferry ride itself. The funniest thing happened. We boarded the ferry (which they claim is ISO certified...) and it's pretty small. There was a young guy sitting in front of us with a Canadian flag on his backpack so we asked him where he was from. He told us BC. Where? Cloverdale!! Turns out that he is really good friends with Heather Look ... read more

Day 16: Surat Thani to Sichon The next day we awoke in our new room and J’s knee felt worse than ever. Oh well, we had to travel on, it was time for new adventures. But we felt a bit indignant about the flood of our room and the lack of concern or apology from the staff. We decided we should at least get a refund for that last night. Unfortunately, the staff did not agree. I went down to the desk alone, explained the situation nicely and requested to speak to the manager. I was told we would get no refund, and the manager, promising to come down, did not appear. Her mistake. Next time, I sent J. He yelled and demanded to see the manager. This time, she appeared and told J she would ... read more

Day 15 - A Rest in Surat Thani We stayed a day in Surat Thani, because J’s knee really hurt and we were exhausted anyways. J recalled that he’d injured that knee seven years before in a car accident, making me feel a little less bad than I felt about the injury being my fault. J spent most of the day in bed, I spent the day walking around, enjoying the waterfront and the bustle of the homely city. We, of course, ate at the 99 Baht Buffet again, this time bringing enough money to pay. This time we also noticed a teenage boy, paid to swat a stick with streamers attached above the food, to ensure bugs did not have the chance to land. Unfortunately, he was waving this stick around so much, with such ... read more

Hi, So I wasn't as lucky as AK and Colin. I was 3 hours late to change my flight from Krabi-Bangkok (45 vs 48 hours) so I had to make my way from Ko Samui to Surat Thani on a boat. On Ko Samui we stayed in a little north east corner of beach. It was so serene. Last night Mark, Krystal and I had a romantic dinner on the beach.. sand btw our toes and waves lapping next to us. Mark's shark was soooo good!! My crab was tasty but too much effort after a couple glasses of white wine. Today we chilled with shakes, massages and beach time. I left at 430 and took a way overpriced cab to the pier to catch the boat to Surat Thani. I knew I had to stay ... read more

Happy New Year to you all, the year is now 2552 and Ive had a lotta fun celebrating. I was Invited by my Muay Thai trainer Chin to his home in Nakon Si to celebrate New Year and his daughter Em's birthday. I wasn't sure what to expect as these situations always have a tendency to shock you. We arrived at his is Home (or should I say Homes) in the back of a pick up truck, his houses are sorounded by rubber trees which he also owns and farms. We where given a private house to use for the following days. His family where very lovely and looked after me well, too well if anything, and helped me improve my Thai by not speaking more than 3 words of English (by the way my Thai ... read more

Mmmmmm...... a cool breeze blew in our open balcony door all night long. What a nice change from the air-con we have used to cool off. I have to admit that the heat has been pretty demanding and we have caved on not getting air-con rooms. Its easy to forget the roosters are going to start crowing as soon as the sun hints at rising in the sky. It must have been sunny somewhere cause they serenaded us extra early today. We quickly got ready and made our way down stairs where our ride was waiting to take us to the bus station. No time for breakfast. We met an pretty Israeli girl traveling alone. At first we thought she was being indifferent to us or did not speak English but soon determined by her comments and ... read more
