Hehe it’s a rude pun. At 8am we were up, dressed and on a ferry taking us to Phuket. We were there by half 11 where we made a bit of a boo boo. We had been using the Grab app to source taxis, which we realised was super expensive in Phuket. We were to be charged 25 pound for a taxi from the pier to our hostel, which meant we had to wait for the next minibus to arrive to take us with the next ferry… at one o’clock. Thankfully we could find food from the stalls at the pier which kept us going. Yet more disaster followed. We arrived at our hotel only for the owner to inform us that half of his business had been shut down and he had nowhere to home ... read more

Not a lot happening today or is it??? We had another awesome breakfast and met Mr Mow, our buffalo tour expert, confirmed our flight back? then showed us the best packages for what we wanted to see woohoo bring on James Bond Island and Fantasea and tiger kingdom for a great price. We are all seeing the first two. We walked along Patong Beach road and down Bangla road to the shopping centre. Loved the guys stopping us to ask us if we are Australians and then trying to get us to go to a motel for 90 mins so they get paid a certain amount of Baht based on the tickets we got and the money they make off them! But you must leave immediately to claim. No thank you. Bit of retail therapy, ride ... read more

Day 4 another awesome breakfast to start the day and then what was a quick trip to the Bangkok Airport and would you believe the guys had Macca’s! Also Steve supersized his. Flight was great and then we were in Phuket, the guys went off for their smoke at the airport and met their First Lady boy, to quote Simone “new it was a lady boy as she/he had a five 0’clock shadow, worse than mine” The trip to our motel took a fair amount of time, the scenery reminded Simone and I of Fiji. Get to our motel to be encouraged to upgrade, we were going to then didn’t, once we got to our rooms, that opened to the elevators. I quickly had a look at the view of someone’s back yard and walked next ... read more

We set off on January 18th with the kids in tow and stayed the night in Melbourne for an early morning flight the next day. We met up with one of our friends Chris (from our home town) and also my son Trent and his girlfriend Vic who flew in that morning from Adelaide at the airport. The trip over was pretty uneventful with a small stop in the Kuala Lumpur airport. The kids were amazing on the way over on the long flight, both desperate to be the one to sit next to Trent. They were made to swap halfway! We met up with my parents in the KL airport for a quick meal before Mum and Dad flew out to Bangkok for a few days and once we headed for Phuket. It was after ... read more

With sunny weather in the forecast, we planned to spend the bulk of the next two days on the beach. We picked url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g297930-d2454044-Reviews-Patong_Beach-Patong_Kathu_Phuket.htmlPatong Beach for a Sunday Funday and url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g297930-d2454044-Reviews-Patong_Beach-Patong_Kathu_Phuket.htmlNai Harm Beachfor a more laid-back Monday. We packed a six-pack of Leo and headed for Patong. We grabbed lunch near the shore and picked up some beer coozies at a convenience store. The sun was sizzling, so we sought a shady spot to sit and sip our suds. We spent the day switching between the surf and our refreshing beverages. Eventually, we started ordering Leo beers from a vendor. Brad put his newly minted MBA skills to work and ... read more

It's our second to last full day in Phuket. On Wednesday we got up at 5.40am to go on a full day boat trip around Phang Na Bay (and a few other places). We got onto this pretty big speed boat which could fit all 18 of us comfortably on board. We first stopped at Koh Phanak where we explored some of the caves and had to wear torches to see where we were going. We came out the other side of the cave into this large opening where mangrove trees were growing and they had those walking fish (mud skippers). After that we went to Koh Hong where we were taken on these inflatable canoes and taken into more caves (where we had to lie down to get through some of the openings). From there ... read more

It was Blair's birthday on the 28th on Phi Phi island. The day before we had a great day snorkeling and swimming but this day we decided to try and walk to the main beach on Phi Phi. One of the girls from our snorkeling trip had walked back from the main beach from our hotel and was told it should only take 20mins, but instead took her 2hrs as she got lost. So she warned us that there wasn't much signage but that it was possible if we took the right route to get to the other side. We started our walk up a very steep hill and found the track wasn't very defined and was very dense to walk through. Anyway we continued on up the steep hill, followed by a swarm of mosquitos ... read more

Sawasdee Krab (that’s a polite “hello” in Thai language) from Phuket!!!! Several people advised us to stay on another less crowded, developed, and touristy island in Thailand than Phuket. We decided to go the convenient route and stay on Phuket anyway, with the idea of easier, direct travel on the peak and downward slope of our vacation, with a bit of adventure and more recreation and relaxation. Our experience of entering the airport on the island of Phuket, Thailand was a breath of fresh air and one of the easiest entries we’ve ever had when traveling from another country (in this case Cambodia), but we still had the impression that this was an expedited yet thorough arrival process rather than anything half-baked. I cherished the excitement I always have at the sound of the passport agent ... read more

Day 15 - So here we are, on our way to the beach! In daylight our 1 night airport hotel looked a lot less dodgy. The gardens and pool area were actually really beautiful, but given how far it was from the beach and the fact that there is bugger all happening around it, even on a main road, I have no idea why anyone would stay there more than a night! So we ended up having a sleep in (my family is always keen on this! Never thought I'd be the 'early riser' in a group!) and then we got up and checked out at around 10ish. I had downloaded an app called "GrabTaxi" which I had read was the best way to get cars in Phuket. You know how much you have to pay ... read more
