Smashing it! Back in Phuket once again and ready for a fitness kick! I’ve been to Chalong, Phuket a number of times and it’s a great way to train and get fit. This time I stayed for longer, getting stuck in and making a change! Some things had changed since my last visit - a few more tattoo parlours, and some more healthy eating restaurants along the street. The classics are still there - Reggae Bar and Tony's! It's a street with everything you need and maybe some of what you don't need but want ie reggae bar! Laying by the pool between workouts was pretty awesome for a few days! Then there was a four day rain storm which was fun! I had a frog take home in my shorts that were on the line ... read more

I always thought the Asian airlines like Thai and Malaysian were the best ones to fly with when you have kids as they are so warm and friendly when it comes to children. I now stand corrected. The award for best kid-friendly airline goes to Etihad, out of the United Arab Emirates, hands down. They first caught our attention when we read about their "nanny in the sky" program. While it's not quite as good as you might at first hope for (we discovered that they don't, in fact, take the kids off your hands at all!) it's still pretty good. The way it works is that one of the air hostesses is assigned as the nanny for the flight. They wear a special uniform to make them extra identifiable to stressed out parents and, as ... read more

N.B. Some photo credits go to Debbie (big thanks) as we 'lost' our camera back in Bangkok the first time :( Phuket 28th Nov-4th Dec'16 So our journey to Phuket was not without incident, now maybe it was coincidence that the big night out on the beer in Udon Thani was the day before flying, maybe it was lack of food the day before, maybe it was a bug, but whatever the cause by the time Howard and I arrived at the airport to meet up with Deb, Liam and Karen, poor old Debbie was looking the worse for wear! Liam was flying an hour before us and the 3 of them had set off to the airport a couple of hours before us. We said our goodbyes to Liam and he set off on his ... read more

Pretty relaxing day. Not a whole lot to report but just being lazy bums around the pool. Got some cross stiching done in the sun, working on a maple leaf to give to a monk as tribute. Watched the sunset and packed up to head to Chiang Mai. ... read more

Had an interesting walk into the local area of town. Included a picture of some street meat that are everywhere. The professional looking bags of ice they make smoothies out of in the stalls in the streets all are packed out of the back of a pick up in the back streets. We ate some brunch at a local restaurant. There were a few cats hanging around one of which was right in the food plating area. Left my phone for half the day which I wish I had brought it to show/explain the electrical work we saw. 2 men walk up to a ball of crackling power lines with a bamboo ladder. One climbs right up there and just starts digging around in the ball of cable with another one to be added in. Spent ... read more

The festivities for the end of the month of mourning from the beloved king of thailand passing away began today. The streets are filled with Thai people dressed in all black. Monday will officially be when the month is up and it also is the yearly lantern festival Loy Karthong which is going to be amazing. Friends and family, Dusty is taking amazing care of me, so grateful for him. Had my first accidental shell fish contamination in a dish and had some minor face and tongue starting. Got me to a pharmacy immediately since I forgot my benadryl and swelling has gone down good as new. Also got my first wound because I'm terribly uncoordinated, slipped and cut my toe a bit but the charm hotel staff fixed me right up. Tomorrow will be a ... read more

So our time in Koh Samui was up and it was time to head on to another island. Alex had an old friend from his rugby club whom he wanted to visit so Phuket it was. We decided to fly from Koh Samui and what a surprising treat it was. The airport had a tropical feel to it and unlimited free food, drink and WIFI! Being on a budget, another meal was sorted for practically free. We sat there for some time in our small tropical hut with the runway being metres away watching the tv with the funeral procession of the King who had recently passed. Many Thai's were travelling to Bangkok to pay their respects and there was a somewhat sombre mood in our tropical hut. We spoke to a girl from Israel whose ... read more
