Well here is the first blog of the trip! I can't believe i'm finally here.. again! Firstly i have to say i have never seen so many wheel chairs on one flight.. seriously there were literally 10 wheel chairs on my flight from Heathrow to Mumbai?! Anyway! As soon as i arrived in Thailand i remembered why i like it so much here.. everyone is so friendly! I chatted to people on the plane and then on the sky train.. which by the way is genius!( - so easy to get around .. and cheap as chips to get from the airport to sukhumvit.) Sukhumvit is home to Nana (also where i was staying) which is where you will find Western men perving after Thai women every which way you look.. on the one hand grose, ... read more

Well we decided to stay another week and no sooner had we paid our money to the guesthouse the heavens opened for the next four days - so much for relaxing on the beach!! So after four days sitting in the guesthouse and only venturing out in the evenings for food we were ready for the beach when the sun finally came out! So we headed off early to Ao Nang as we decided to do a bit of shopping for some new shorts before heading to the beach. We found the quietist spot we could as after four days of rain it seemed the whole of Krabi had come to the beach for the day - still wasn’t too crowded though and definitely didn’t feel like you were intruding on anyone else. Its high season ... read more

After all the hassle in getting to the bus station the VIP bus was a welcome relief from some of the other buses we have taken recently. With more leg room than we knew what to do with, fully reclining chairs, donuts, water and pepsi as snacks as well as hot tea before lights out, along with the computers in the backs of the seats in front and back massagers built into the seats it was absolute heaven!! Mark enjoyed watching a movie in Thai on the computer whilst I played some old SEGA games. We slept well over night until I had a dream we had arrived at Krabi so woke Mark up - except it was 2am and we were only half way there!! Needless to say Mark wasn’t too impressed with me! Olly landed in Bangkok on friday the 12th at around 7 ish found the boys in the bar opposite the hotel 'khao san palace' early night and a dvd to recover from the stress of 13 hours at Mumbai saw everyone refreshed for Saturday. Saturday day was spet arranging travel to Phi phi island and then saturday night was Olly's birthday celebrations with Olly and Konrad both back in the room by half 11 both being beyond inebriated. Josh had a good night stripping at a pole dancing club with Arnie and Pricey. Sunday 14th spent lounging in the roof top pool having realised the tv got borken in the shenanigans of saturday night. we decided to pay for another night and then sneak out later konrad even got his deposit back on the room. Today was the best day so far all of us, from sitting around in a bar watching football the previous night to being sat on an elephant riding through the jungle, what a contrast. Words and pictures cannot describe how surreal and amazing the experience was. Even travelling to the reserve was an experience in itself, all sat on the back of a pick-up truck where it became apparent Scotty had been spending too much time with the Americans ("Man" this, "Movie" that, "Totally" this, "Totally" that!!) After returning to Railay, we moved hostels or should i say huts, up into the jungle for our last night in the resort. Tomorrow we have an early start as we depart for Koh Lanta where we have been promised white sand beaches and hopefully hot showers. Hopefully we ... read more

So Jeremy and I would be the first to admit that we're beach snobs. Growing up in Florida unfortunately ruins a lot of other beaches you may eventually visit. Show us some mountains, and we're enthralled. The desert? We're entranced. Snow? We think we've died and gone to heaven. But a beach? Eh...we could take it or leave it. And then we came to Krabi. Going back to Tuesday and our departure from Malaysia, we knew it was going to be a long day when we boarded our "mini-bus" (translation: a mini-van redesigned to hold ten people) and saw a television screen blaring cheesy Thai music videos (arguably worse than Cambodian and Chinese music videos). Ten hours later, after a painless border crossing into Thailand (and two mini-bus changeovers) we arrived in the middle of a ... read more

Ok have just left Koh Phi Phi a beautiful island and very warm. Went island hoping for the day on a speed boat yesterday and saw the infamous Beach from the film although slightly disappointed as spoilt by tourism. Did some snorkeling and watched the sunset. Decided to blow the budget and fly to Samui rather than bus and boat it saving ourselves 7 hours serious drinking time. Flight is one hour and then we are off to our Jungle Retreat for a week so I can finally unpack and get a massage - my rucksac gets heavier by the day! Although would much rather been wearing that then sitting at the desk at work (sorry Kathryn - thanks for the email XX). I have now completely lost my fiona feet but have several horrible mosquito ... read more

The weekends at PP are always busy. Many people who read the same article Jenna and I saw in the newspaper have come to visit or plan to in the future. Even in the time we visited there were phone calls every day with inquiries about the homestay... the word is out! The visitors were all just so pleased to be in some real wilderness and eating so well. There is also a group of folks who come up from Kuala Lumpur most weekends to get away from the city. It is such a diverse group, most of whom are working in KL on visas and many of them warned jenna and i about "getting stuck" in Malaysia and how many of them never really planned to stay so long. Week 2 was much hotter, dryer, ... read more

Krabi is not a beach destination itself but a good place to base yourself and visit the beaches at Ao Nang and Rai Leh. We stayed at A Mansion hotel (on Th Chao Fa) which was really good value and close to the river, the shops, the bus stop and long tail boats. The first day the rain absolutely poured down, it is monsoon season after all, so we stayed around town, did some shopping and our washing. There's enough to see around the town to occupy you for a day or so and you get more of a feel for Thai culture than in the resorts. Each evening we ate in one of the two night markets, the one by the river or the other more central in town open on weekends. You can get ... read more
