Surprisingly feeling good today, we went out on an island boat trip round the bays of Koh Phangan. We trekked to a waterfall where some of us had a swim. Charlie showed us a tree in which some of the leaves taste like apple. Our tour guide for the day, Peter Pan pointed out never never land in which him and Tuk planted 3 trees 20 years ago. Arriving at bottle beach, we had a spot of free lunch - egg fried rice. I was feeling like I needed a bit of alone time so I had a nice stroll along the beach and just sat in the sunshine soaking it all up. On the boat back, we were all on the lookout for monkeys up in the forest areas. We spotted some sitting on some ... read more

After having breakfast in Khao Sok, we made our way back to collect our rucksacks to then head west to Koh Phangan. We stopped off at Tesco lotus to get snacked up for the ferry journey, which took around 2.5 - 3 hours. We arrived in Haad Rin and made our way to our guesthouse (Friendly Resort & Spa). It had a small pool and a view of the beach. I shared a room with Sarah. The room seemed ok, it had a/c which we were happy about. Another afternoon to explore the area. A small group of us picked up a snack from a street bar and then went on the hunt for tie dyed item of clothing for a party. We firstly went to a bar called Same Same for dinner - I decided ... read more

Taking first small steps in Bangkok… Finally the day has come… I was leaving China and heading to another country, the country I have been looking forward to visit for a long time already and the fact that I was meeting my ‘boyfriend’ there (yep! think I can actually put a label on it now ;)) just made this trip a bit extra special! At the check-in desk in Beijing I found out that my plane to Hong Kong was delayed 1,5 hour. Well, it sure wasn’t good news as I only had an hour in transit in HK! Still it looked like 120 people were in the same situation so the plane would just wait for us in HK… Pheeeew… What a relief! As there was no chance there would have been another plane leaving ... read more

I am a lucky man! A few years ago I was in Bangkok wondering where to go next. I had no plan whatsoever when I met a Frenchman who told me about Phangan and its clear water. I thought it sounded nice. When I arrived everyone asked me if I had come for the Full Moon party. I had no idea what they meant. I had come for the beach! And OMG, the beaches in the north of the island are f-in' stunning! Shallow crystal clear water, soft white sand, coconut trees everywhere, delicious food, and pretty cool mountains for a hike or a run: my kind of holiday! I have come back to Koh Phangan every year since 2010 and this time I took my parents and Becky along. We had a blast! We rented ... read more

Ko Phangan is famous for its full moon parties so we wanted to try this out for Xmas and NYE and it was one of the first things we booked – we booked it almost a year previous. We had to block book a ten day period as it was over Xmas so wed been looking forward to staying in the same place for more then a few days. We travelled from Phuket to Krabi by boat and bus and stayed there for a night – we spent the day at one of the beach’s – same old same old! Trying to get to the beach was a bit of an effort – the taxi drivers seem to nod and agree with wherever you ask to be brought - then drop you off where they want ... read more

Oh what a journey… after a horrific 4 hour minibus ride, a 14 hour overnight train, a 10 hour stop over in Bangkok, a 9 hour train, 4 hour boat and a tuk tuk ride we finally made it to Koh Phangan! Showered, ditched our stuff and headed straight to the beach, a little bit of sunbathing, spot of lunch and cocktails on the beach then headed back for a nap. I was adamant I wasn’t going out that night as I wanted to be fresh for the full moon party the next day, but as always I was persuaded otherwise and we headed out to a jungle party. It was basically just a party in the middle of the jungle, a lot like Ibiza’s soo project - it was pretty good, we bumped into a ... read more

Well, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth our journey from Ao Nang to Koh Phangan was. We started out at 6am on Sunday morning, and it took around seven hours in total, but there was very little waiting around and we were promptly met from the boat by the Milky Bay Resort staff. We paid for a garden-view bungalow, but we're so close to the beach, it could technically be classes as sea-view. Our bungalow is beautiful! We spent the afternoon on the beach. I walked out a few hundred meters in the sea, and the water never reached my hips. Bliss. In the evening, we attempted to walk into town but ended up taking a taxi half-way because it's so far. We ate at a western restaurant/pub, then walked back. It took over an ... read more

March 21st Ko Phangan was a whirlwind of fun and laughter from the minute we landed in the arms of Seth and Jordyn. But that is pretty par for the course with these two. They have been our dear friends since the first year we lived on Kauai and we’ve been lucky enough to vacation with them for 3 years in a row now. This time we joined them on there home away from paradise, the north shore of Ko Phangan, which is not all that different from the north shore of Kauai, just a different country. It took us some time to get there, 2 days exactly and the last 3 hours I could feel the anticipation vibing out of their bodies which was essentially what lead us there because we were extremely lost. Seth ... read more

As soon as Donna’s parents saw the beach on Koh Phangan on a ‘Skype-walk-and-talk’ last July (isn’t modern technology wonderful?), the decision was made about where we would be taking them on holiday. Everything was booked by mid-January and we started to get daily countdowns by e-mail from them, which were remarkably accurate, even down to the minute! This is the first of two blogs of our time with them. We had managed to book flights to arrive within an hour of each other into Bangkok and we arrived first, giving us time to sort out the sim card for our phone and scoff a black forest cornetto - have we ever mentioned how good the cornettos in Thailand are? We were very excited to see Jan and Paul and we started the holiday in luxury, ... read more

Level 2 Yoga comes to an end on Koh Phangan. I feel disappointed and down. Whereas after the first month I was a picture of glowing health and supple limbs, this month i feel awful. I have a cold, an upset stomach and I have the worse teenage skin breakout in about 5 years – so much for 200 hours of yoga! I talk to Fleur, my willowy, blonde Dutch friend: “I don't know if I can leave in a week” I say ... ( I had been planning to stay through March and do Level 3 but now we both feel we need to get off the island and the man misery plus illness with a hefty dose of acne really hasn't helped!!!) “What's wrong with you?!” says Fleur “of course you can leave in ... read more
