Oh what a journey… after a horrific 4 hour minibus ride, a 14 hour overnight train, a 10 hour stop over in Bangkok, a 9 hour train, 4 hour boat and a tuk tuk ride we finally made it to Koh Phangan!
Showered, ditched our stuff and headed straight to the beach, a little bit of sunbathing, spot of lunch and cocktails on the beach then headed back for a nap. I was adamant I wasn’t going out that night as I wanted to be fresh for the full moon party the next day, but as always I was persuaded otherwise and we headed out to a jungle party. It was basically just a party in the middle of the jungle, a lot like Ibiza’s soo project - it was pretty good, we bumped into a load of other teachers we knew so there was a good crowd of us and many buckets later we returned home to our lovely new dorm. As there was 8 of us we had our own private dormitory with bunkbeds so it was literally just like a big sleepover with all of your friends, but after a while it got a bit messy to
say the least. Imagine 8 girls got their backpacks and literally just emptied it all over the floor, it was a state - the cleaner bless her did try to do something with it the one day, she came in with a duster in one hand but we sent her away, for her own sanity-.
Everyone was feeling a bit delicate the day of full moon so while some of the girls headed to the pool I finally was able to catch up on some much needed sleep and got the lie in I had been wishing for. Me and Ciara went on a massive walk in search of full moon vests and flowers for our hair, stopping off for lunch on the way before heading home and starting the pre-drink with everyone. We all spent ages drinking buckets and putting on all of our body paint before taking part in a harlem shake with everyone else from our hostel. 100 baht later and we were at had rin beach for full moon and all I can say is, wow! What an experience! There were just thousands of people wearing neon body paint and drinking buckets dancing on every
single part of the beach, for ages the beach was just jam packed, it was mental, but the most amazing night ever.
Needless to say, the next day we were all pretty hungover, I was one of the first ones home at 6am but some of the others never made it back until the afternoon (full moon party goes on from the night before until the next afternoon, sometimes evening, when the last people have gone home!). We spent the day just relaxing, eating and sitting in the aircon on facebook, an early night was had by all.
We had planned on moving on after 3 nights in Koh Phangan but found ourselves stranded on the island as all of the boats were fully booked so instead we booked another night and stayed put. The next day some of the girls wanted to go to snorkelling on the other side of the island but I fancied a nice quiet day around the pool, relaxation was definitely needed after the last few days! I went to the pool with Becky and Melinda and spent the day sipping cocktails in the sun and getting ridiculously burnt. (With the added excitement
of a crazy Thai man coming over to the owner screaming his head off, a hammer been involved and the police turning up - just a typical day in Thailand!).
Eden Island - so on our last night together before we headed our separate ways for travelling (some people were going travelling in Cambodia/Vietnam, others have family and friends coming over and some have to go to Malaysia for visa runs). We decided to go out for a few nice quiet drinks on the beach, but of course, this being me and my friends, that didn’t exactly happen!
With buckets of whiskey, coke and redbull been sold for 100baht (£2) things were never going to end well. After drinking many buckets, dancing and making lots of new friends, it was suggested to us that we get a boat over to Eden island (apparently it had great parties over there) and with us been the sensible, sobar teachers that we are were of course sitting on this boat to eden island within 10 minutes.
After paying more than the cost of 2 buckets to get the 5 minute distance on a small taxi boat we rocked up on
eden island without a party in sight! We ended sitting in this small bamboo hut bar with the strangest mix of people ever, it was hilarious. But a few drinks later we realised there was no party so me and ciara headed back to the boat, we were lucky to just about make it as there were already quite a few amerian guys on it and it turned out to be the last boat of the night. We got home at around 5am and when we woke up the next morning, some of the girls still weren’t back! Turns out they got stranded on the island and had to wait for a boat in the morning, very glad I did the sensible thing and came home early!
The next day was spent sleeping, eating and everyone been very hungover before we all said goodbye and headed our separate ways. Next stop, Koh Tao…
