Funny how none of the travel brochures show you sweating your ass of in a room with no fan or AC with a lone vicious mosquito as company. Being hounded awake by a whine in your ear as your slipping off into a gentle sleep has got to rank in the top 10 of "Truly annoying experiences". I guess that wouldn't be a very good sales pitch though. None the less these are all some of the perils you face as you slide from chaos into bliss. Ah the rigors of travel. Our entry point into Thailand turned out be a ferry ride across from Langkawi (Malaysia) to Ko Lipe in which we we hung out at a bar while our passports were stamped! Yup, no waiting in lines, no questions, and thank god no dealing ... read more

The rest of Ko Lipe and to Ko Mook (30th & 31st March 2008) Feel much better today after my very early night the previous day. Looking forward to a very very lazy day. On route to the village i called off at the Jungle bar and had breakfast. Yummy, it was so good and made a nice change to getting the inedible crap from ko Lipe resort. I needed to check my emails to see if fabieene has in touch and to find out what her plans are. I had received a mail and it advised me she was on route to the south of thailand. I wasnt sure if this meant she was due to arrive in Ko Lipe today or tomorrow or not. If it did mean this, there was a problem as ... read more

Thinking back to this day it was a bit of an uneventful day. What i mean by that is I got up nice and early, went for a walk the sun was shining. Sunbathed and swam in the clear blue sea most of the day. Spent a bit of time with Sarah and Chris. Decided we'd do a snorkling trip the next day so we booked that and went for a bit of a pre-snorkle in the waters off pattaya beach. I took Them to jungle bar for lunch after i told them ho much i enjoyed my dinner the previous day. After their meal they agreed that that was the best thai curry they have ever had! Went for my second thai massage on the beach at 5pm which was sooooo good. As agreed ... read more

Langkawi - Thailand Ko lipe 27th March Up Early as taxi picking me and a Swedish Couple up at 8.30am. Checked my emails as I am supposed to meeting Fabienne, (Swiss girl who i met in LA) in Ko Lipe. Received no email and not had one for about 4 days now so not really sure if I am meeting her or Not? Checked out of Zackery's place and met the Swedish Couple, Sarah and Chris and made our way to the jetty at telaga harbour - 118 ringetts to get to thailand (ko lipe). The boat journey took about 1hr and half, and at this point i would have usually chilled out to some music on my i-pod - but cant cos it's dead! Arrived at Ko Lipe at Pattaya. From 50 mtrs or so ... read more

From Luang Prabang (Laos) we flew to Bangkok (Thailand). We’d heard that the journey to northern Thailand via the river was a long, uncomfortable and hard journey, so we thought we’d miss that experience! We’ve already endured long slow boat journeys, sitting on hard wooden bench seats for hours on end. If you are a traveller in search of beauty and tranquility; don’t go to Ko Phi Phi, head for Ko Lipe!! Read below. Bangkok We did the usual in Bangkok, stayed in Rambuttri Village Hotel and spent time wondering the air-con shopping centres, absorbed the backpackers atmosphere on Khao San Road and relaxed by the hotel pool. From Bangkok we headed south to Krabi on an over night bus. This was fine, but we were dropped off at the ferry port, which we hadn’t anticipated. ... read more

OK I am one greasy monkey right now, just had a one hour massage that seem like two ($10CAD). We took a twelve seat fast ferry from Langkawi Malaysia to Ko Lipe island in Thailand ($30 CAD). It's is a little island filled with a mix of tourist of all classes and locals that run the place along with various xpats from all over. The island is surrounded by the kind of blue green water you only see in a few of the most beautyful places on earth or in pictures. There are no cars on the island other than the scooters only riden by locals so you walk everywhere. There are many restaurants, shops, and massage places (all ligit), nothing too fancy but all good. There are many places to stay but all seem to ... read more

The first thing that I noticed as our ferry arrived at Koh Lipe was the clarity of the water. Even though we were anchored off shore awaiting a long tail boat to pick us up, we could see every rock and fish that was below the surface. At each of the three beaches on this island, the water is so clear that you can actually make out the individual grains of sand beneath your feet. Added to this, every day the weather was idyllic for such a location - warm, clear skies and a gentle breeze. We spent our days at beautiful Koh Lipe either swimming, reading on the beach, dozing on the beach or eating beautiful food. We stayed the first two nights at Sunlight Beach, which was always calm in the afternoon with shade ... read more

The four S's (Stan, Sheila, Sharon, and Scott that is) have met again, this time on the island of Ko Lipe in Southern Thailand. After leaving the UK to move to America, I've met up with mum and dad at various locations around the world. It's becoming a habit: Easter 2003 - USA/California Summer 2004 - UK Sept 2005 - Bali wedding, Indonesia Feb 2006 - Langkawi, Malaysia Xmas 2006 - Ko Phi Phi, Thailand Aug 2007 - Malaysia (Tioman and Taman Negara) Feb 2008 - Ko Lipe, Thailand (now!) It seems we've become quite the travelling family! We were supposed to be able to add Egypt to the list, too, but mum and dad had to cancel at the last minute, just 12 hours before departure. We arrived on the island of Ko Lipe the ... read more

Ko Lipe isn't the place you'd want to arrive without money. Banks or ATMs haven't arrived yet and the moneychangers aren't generous. With that in mind we ended Langkawi with a mad evening rush round trying to find a moneychanger and repeatedly being thwarted by minutes, including a failed dash to the airport before it closed following the last flight in. Not a problem, we discovered a bank with a moneychanger would be open at Telaga Harbour the following morning, from where our speedboat would be leaving. After three customers in the morning the bank had run out of Thai Baht. Tom was in line with our money fourth. If I was the sort of person who went round telling banks how to do their jobs I'd put forward the crazy idea to carry a little ... read more

After several months of dreary weather in good old Britain we are on the road again. This time we are catching up with Sharon and Scott on Ko Lipe, Thailand. Reputed to be the nearest thing to a deserted tropical island. The big down side to this island is the time it takes to get here. 16 hours on a plane, (well 2 planes to be exact) 4 hours wait in Bangkok Airport, 2 hours on another plane to the south of Thailand, taxi ride to Hat Yai then a 2 1/2 bus ride to the port of Pak Bara. All this followed by a 4 hour ferry ride. Last but not least transfer in mid-sea onto a longtail boat to drop us onto the beach as there is no jetty on Ko Lipe. Hopefully it ... read more
