Hi hope everyone back home is doing ok. Its taken me ages to upload pictures in this internet cafe so I'll keep the text short on this one and do some longer blogs from Bangkok next week. Ko Lipe is in the Ko Tarutao National Marine Park and is an amazing place! After a 7 hour boat journey from Ko Lanta through stunning scenary to the Maylasian border it was more sun, sea and sand! The accomodation at the Varin was superb, the people are really friendly, barbecues and bars on the beach, lovely little village with shops and no sign of any rain so far! Its Friday morning at the moment and I'm back in Lanta on Long beach, going on a trip to the Emerald Cave 2moro on Ko Mook then its a big ... read more

Took the 7 hour boat trip from Ko Lanta to Ko Lippe which was part of a national marine park and one of the last islands before you enter Malaysian waters. The boat trip was beautiful, some of the islands really did resemble paradise. Ko Lippe was a tiny island which you could walk around in 40 mins. Our accomodation was again one of the worst we'd stayed in. It smelt of damp and severe body odour (not a good combination), and again we had a frog for company in our bathroom. We spent two night here both of them really quiet, we did splash out on food both nights trying to spend our remaining Baht before we left Thailand. We spent the 2 days, walking around the island finding the most luxurous beach in the ... read more

So , it's raining and I decided to reflect on two incidences that took more time to relay. Please, if you don't want to here about toilets, don't read the second part! We had to spend a single night in Bangkok ( weeks ago) for Alex’s follow up appt and followed the Lonely Planet’s advice, which has been good so far. We arrived at our destination , Ayutthaya Hotel, which was really quite sleek looking, with teak furniture out front and flowers and green plants spilling over into the walk ways. Upon entering the lobby, Alex noticed what appeared to be the reception desk, manned by one rather surly looking Thai woman. Now, she was adding up some numbers on a sheet of paper, but was otherwise unoccupied. We approached the counter with our backpacks strapped ... read more

As Alex said, we made it! We're on the island of Ko Lipe in the National Marine Park of Taurutao. Our little bungalow is quite literally 20 feet from the emerald water of the Andaman. Long tail boats troll the osland in search of passengers day and night, though it is possible to walk around it in less than an hour. In short, it's gorgeous! We went snorkeling for hours yesterday in a shallow protected cove and got a slight sunburn, so today we simply sat on the porch of our bamboo bungalow and read. This is the life. Tarutao was very different. We took a packed ferry boat from Pak Bara that makes several stops, and out of maybe 40 people, only 4 got off the ferry. The boat dropped us at the pier at ... read more

I just spent a good chunk of time uploading pictures, so I'm just gonna be brief again, and I'll cover more ground when we blog again in the next couple of days. Tarutao was amazing. Deserted... unspoilt... wild... exactly what we had hoped for from that island. And now we're on Lipe, which is kind of what we'd hoped Railay would be. Mellow, sleepy vibe, but still some stuff to do, and places to go hang out in the evenings. I would call it the "Chiang Mai of the South Andaman" if anybody wouldn't think I was a total douche-bag for saying something like that. We spent last week camping on our own little stretch of beach, hiking around amongst monkeys and monitor lizards during the day, and swimming with the phosphorescent algae in the evening. ... read more

Today we arrived in paradise! We made it! We took a flight to Krabi in Southern Thailand which went without a hitch and beat sitting on a bus. On the 14/11 we took a ferry to Koh Phi Phi - a small island with no roads. It was a really nice island but over developed for its size. We managed to get ourselves a nice, if a little dilapidated, chalet with views over looking the crystal blue water and white sands. Due to a problem with our dilapidated chalet we were upgraded to the executive suit free of charge. Woo hoo! We only ended up spending three days on Phi Phi due to it being quite crowded and expensive. During that time we did a sunset boat trip around the various uninhabited islands and visited the ... read more

This blog by Lucas: Koh Lipe was everything I thought Thailand would be - in my pre-conceived notions of an idyllic, untouched beach - but could not quite find on slightly over-developed and over-touristed Ko Lanta, Ko Phi Phi and Railay. All of the beaches on the Andaman side of Thailand are ridiculously beautiful, but Koh Lipe retains that unjaded, no-tour-package, simple island chill that we all desire to escape to (while wasting away in a small grey cubicle...) After a 3 hour speedboat from Ko Lanta, we managed to find a nice bungalow right on the beach for $14 a night. For the record, our porch was exactly 18 strides to the water in high tide, and 122 strides in low tide. We explored the entire length and width of the island in under an ... read more

I set my alarm for 6.45am so me and oli could catch a boat to Krabi. At 7.20am, 5 minutes before the boat was due to leave, I was just waking up. Luckily there was anoher boat at 1pm so we aimed to catch that one. After my last experience of Krabi I wasnt keen on going back, so after flicking through the lonely planet i decided on ko lipe. I made my way into town only to be told the boat was fully booked for the next 2 days! I really didnt want to stay in ko lanta any longer and eventually the woman said that seeing as i was only one extra person, they could fit me on. Arriving at the boat it seemed that i wasnt the only person they had agreed to ... read more
