Kram... read more

Puss... read more

Lite "fuck you" etc blev det.

Wow, we have just realised that this is already our blog number 101! But do not worry, we will not stop writing some more as we have planned already interesting trips in the future. But let's come back to our short trip to Malaysia/Thailand. Our next island on our "self organised" island hopping tour was Koh Lipe. From Koh Bulon we took a speedboat which brought us to the shores of Koh Lipe in 2 hours. We arrived at Pattaya beach and were really shocked by the crowded beach and the noise. Coming from the peaceful island of Koh Bulon with only few tourists and great nature, this was too much for us. Quickly we took our backpacks and walked away from the beach to a hostel which was recommended to us by a lot of ... read more

Sawadi-kap meine Lieben!

Packing for Thailand is great! Shoes? - don’t bother. Jacket? - nah. Pants? - one pair max. Socks? - only if you plan on wearing them with your sandals… bad idea! Which leaves room for extra bottles of sun-screen, after-sun lotion (because your gonna burn, no matter how much sunscreen you pack), bug spray, beach towels and a bottle of Sparkling for New Year’s Eve. 30-day visa stamp upon entry and just like that we have said good-bye to the winter of China and hello to the heat of Thailand. Thailand is the first place Kelsey and I travelled to together back in 2005 before we started University in Melbourne, and has always held a special place in our hearts. We came back in 2008, after the Philippines, and had a great 2-week trip with Kelsey’s ... read more

Upon landing in Bangkok it was quickly obvious that we were in a city and world completely different from anything we had previously experienced. The same challenges that accompany traveling were compounded by the inability to speak, understand, or make any sense of the squiggles that make up the written language. And thus, it took us almost three hours from when we deplaned to figure out how to get through immigration and how best to get into town (and despite our attention to detail we still got completely ripped off). On the skytrain ride into the city we were amazed at how the highrises and skyscrapers populated the land in all directions, unlike many other cities we have lived in or visited which seem to have one more concentrated area. We got to the appropriate station ... read more

The Islands So we set off for the ferry from Georgetown very early, and after a rough 2.5 hrs on the water, we finally arrived on Langkawi island. First impressions, weren’t helped by the dull weather, cloud and rain everywhere, but as well as that it was dirty and hardly any westerners at all. Instead there were poor flea ridden cats with half their tail chopped off everywhere on the island. We checked in at the ‘Azio’ which was a very nice hotel, then went for a walk around the Kedah area which is where we were staying and scoped out the shops and street stalls, got a bite too eat, from a local (busy) restaurant then went back to the room. At night time, the markets were on, so we went back out again to ... read more

Hi everyone, we’re now entering the final phase of our trip in Thailand before starting on our big adventure of Oz. These last few days have been very interesting, as we’ve been invited by my old friend Tim, owner of the dive centre Davy Jones Locker (DJL) on Koh Tao, to help in preparation for his new dive school on the island of Koh Lipe, based on the western side of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. What makes this so interesting is that Koh Lipe is an island which is developing and is currently in its infancy, much like what Koh Tao was 10-15 years ago. This means there is an opportunity to establish oneself successfully early on, using all the experience and resources from Koh Tao to quickly set up and run a diving business, ... read more

Truth be told, our visit to Lipe island began with a bit of confusion; firstly, we wanted to visit Kao (Thai for island) Bulon, but there weren’t any boats going there and then we were charged more than expected, but nonetheless we headed to the island looking forward to spending time there! Overall, we had a fantastic time on Lipe Island. The sea was clear, the sand was white and there were palm trees. It was paradise! The first day we spent just by ourselves, finding our accommodation after following a Spanish man. We swam in the sea (as warm as a hot bath) and sunbathed! The following day our Russian friends joined us, however, they had no phone signal so it was lucky that we bumped into them! After more sunbathing and swimming, we had ... read more
