Hired a scooter, we're going to explore the island today. Had breakfast by the beach. From our room we rode in the direction of the long way round (55km) and on the road signs we saw "Tree House Long Beach Now Open" stickers, so we followed the directions. We rode and rode and kept riding. Then we truned off the main road, a bit down this turning the road turned into a bumpy winding dirt track leading to where??? But we kept going convinced that an exotic paradise was at the end. Then after an hour of riding there it was! We parked up walked down some homemade haphazard steps and felt taken back to the 1960's. The Treehouse was made of tree trunks with a roof of straw, there were brightly coloured mats covering the ... read more

We moved into Sabai Bungalows today after breakfast in Paddys Palms. Our new rooms has no hot water so it's cold showers for a week. Had a sleep then had lunch at a beach bar. Watched some You Tube, had a snooze and went out for dinner. Stopped at an ice cream parlour for a Strawberry Daquiri and a beer. This place had a touch of class about it, oh I know what it was - no squeaking Thai girls offering services! Then we went for an Indian in India Hut, had a tiny chilli there that made us feel that we had a trout pout. Then went to bed. Had a lovely lazy day today.... read more

Today we are going to look for another room. We had breakfast in Paddys Pub, egg/bacon/toast/tea/juice that was included in the room rate and read the Sunday paper - people killed Camboadia, have made a mental note not to go there even if it is on Thailands doorstep. Found another room for 12 pounds pn and now we're on the beach! The sand is soft, the sea is very warm and the sun is hot. Ha, ha, ha when needs must you use the local toilets - I have been trying my damndest to do it properly and today I did and felt a proper sense of relief. Instead of trying to balance precariously up over the step and NOT SIT on anything, I STOOD ON THE FOOTPLATES, duh there should be lessons on these things. ... read more

seems like ages since I last wrote, but in fact think it's only a few days.... my bites are alright - though I think ants have been nibbling on my feet... burn rating - after a beach day, back burnt!... ...think I last left you all with the image of sting and I sorting out our visas and trip to Ko chang then heading to get a beer to celebrate our hard work... well.... after our hard days work we decided to get some food and head back to our hotel/guesthouse/pit/ etc. we sat at a market stall and ordered and sting went to the shop to get some water. I sat alone at the table (listening to the weirdest thai band doing a cover version of Baby Baby Baby by Justin Bieber!) when a thai ... read more

I travelled from Chiang Mai directly to the island of Koh Chang, an island in the southwest of Thailand. Rather a long tiring journey! I arrived rather late, so ended up in a dirty, old bungalow on White Sands Beach. White Sands Beach is incredibly touristy and ugly - they have built hotels right down to the water, very narrow beach available. I searched for reasonably affordable accomodation that was at least clean, but everything was overpriced. I opted to leave after the first day, travelling further down the southwest coast of the island to Lonely Beach. I stayed for 7 days at Nature Bungalows in a private fan cooled bungalow for 600 baht a night. I could probably have negotiated the rate, but I thought I was only going to stay for two nights and ... read more

The next morning we got picked up by a mini-bus (we use that term loosely) to take us down to Koh Chang (south-east, in the Gulf of Thailand) the journey was around 6 hours followed by a ferry crossing on to the island. We had no accommodation booked when we arrived so we had to get to the first internet café to get something sorted. We ended up paying a bit more than expected and settled for this wee bungalow not far away from the beach. We couldn’t wait to get on to the beach to soak up the sun for the next couple of days after the craziness of Bangkok. Koh Chang was like a little bit of paradise! Compared to Bangkok the Thai people in Koh Chang were a lot more welcoming, friendlier and ... read more

Nov. 30 Camodia this morning, Koh Chang, Thailand, this evening. We missed the bus from Bangkok to here so had to take a cab. Still cheaper than flying or taking the hotel car. Then once on the island we rode in a share taxi to the resort. The share taxi had 13 passenger and was just a truck with a covered back. That is where we rode. Our resort is very nice. We have a cabin with a king size bed and still lots of room. It has a tv, fridge and safe plus a modern bathroom. It is super clean and comfy. There is also a porch with a table and chairs on it, plus a roof top terrace. All this is beach front. I think we are going to enjoy this next week. Dec ... read more

Woke up early as our bus left at 8am and we were meet by someone from the bus company downstairs she said we were late and beckoned for us to follow her, walking the street for 10 mins we approached a very large bus and we were on our way. We were one of the first on the bus so we decided to pick seats right above the stairs as we could recline them further back without disturbing people behind us, well this was a very quick lesson learned soon after the first person ventured to the toilet which was right next to the stairs which we were sitting above did we begin to smell the stench of urine which got progressively worse as we traveled on our six our bus ride (long distance bus lesson ... read more

After I finally got into Bangkok’s airport it didn’t even cross my mind to get a bus into busy Bangkok, instead I wanted to go somewhere peaceful and nice, just because I deserve it . So I chose the most deserted Island in Thailand, at least for now till the main season starts. Koh Chang is beautiful. I was staying in a beach hut resort with 49 empty beach huts. Mine was right by the beach, overlooking the sea and every evening I got a beautiful view of the sunset. Not many people around - so it was just me, my book and the sea. I was having amazing food there - red, green yellow curries, seafood - it was fresh everywhere you go. I was indulging myself with various massages and a must do in ... read more
