And now it's time to settle back into laid back island time. The journey back from Penang had been every bit as difficult as getting there. Taking two full days with a stop over in Hat Yai again. But to be honest if you don't experience a bit of the rough side of life you don't appreciate the good side and begin to take things for granted. We were sure glad to be back to what I now call our " second home"! Once settled back into our room we went straight out to find food and of course we knew the best places to go around here. After the chaos of George Town on Penang, to be back here felt like paradise. Instead of the continual beep beep of traffic and big buses rumbling by ... read more

We’ve hit the last leg of our travel experience; the glorious islands of Southern Thailand. We’ve started at Lonely Beach, on the west coast of Ko Chang island. I’m in love with Ko Chang for its epic beauty, consistent neighbourhood friendliness and surreal sunsets. The tropical white sands and turquoise sea is heavenly on a sunny day, which is almost every day. It’s beginning of rainy season meaning we hear thunder often but rain only comes down for an hour or so and then the burning hot sun reappears. There are many local bars (huts built from wood and a few fairly lights) around the island and along the beach with a real party vibe. It’s been blissfully quiet during our stay meaning we’ve had the beaches to ourselves. This has been my favourite place I’ve ... read more

Sunday I had to say goodbye to the island today. It was rough. I woke up even earlier so I could get as much time by the water as possible. It still wasn’t enough. I still can’t get over how blue it is. We had our Western breakfast took some pictures and hit the road around 9am. Interesting fact: our drivers who picked us up from the airport and drove us 4 hours to Koh Chang stayed on the island for the weekend and drove us back to the airport today. I thought that was interesting (like I just said). Anyways, we headed back to the ferry and I honestly just stared at the water the whole time. I really didn’t want to leave. We stopped for lunch around 1:30 or so and had fish, rice, ... read more

Saturday Get ready because today was INSANE. I woke up around 6:30 because I needed to be on the beach. I went out to the water and sat on the lounge chairs. The sun was already up and warm. One of the workers came up to me and offered to get me coffee. On the beach. Paradise. I immediately called my mom to rub it in her face. She didn’t appreciate that. We ate breakfast around 7am and it was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in Chiang Mai or America. They had Western classics (waffles, crepes, omelets, etc) that I was immediately drawn to. After a couple of plates of food, we were ready to go SNORKELING! I had never been before so I was pretty nervous to learn how to breathe under water, but I ... read more

Friday January 19th: Hello everyone, Sorry that I haven't blogged in a while. There just hasn't been much time to write over the weekend. Friday morning we woke up at 5:15 am and had breakfast at 5:45 in order to pack our luggage and leave by 6:30. We got to Chiang Mai Airport 45 minutes before our flight was supposed to take off so we had some minor difficulties getting them to check-in our bags. We did find a way but I’m thinking this also made our flight take off 20 minutes late. The plane was going to be flying from Chiang Mai to Pattaya, South-Western Thailand. From there we had a 2.5 hour van ride to the ferry which would take us to the island of Koh Chang. After a stop for a snack (chips ... read more

I should have known when I stepped on the boat and they were playing 80's soft rock that this was not the place for me. My legs were all for running away but we'd already paid our money and I had to give it a chance. The trip had been sold to us as a 'Four Island Tour' and I was hoping to tour four islands. The reality was that it was just a snorkelling trip which is OK for a few hours but not all bloody day long. I'd not even brought a book because I thought it would be interesting. A truck had picked us up in the morning and tbh, the trip to the boat from our hotel was the highlight. We saw elephants waiting to go on safari and monkeys picking their ... read more

So today we were left to our own devices as we could decide what to do as there was nothing in the itinerary. I guess the idea is so that people can have at least one day to relax as every other day has been jampacked. Relax....us? Claire was getting very angsty about us having nothing to see or do so we asked about things to do of our guide, Jeff. Andy and Helen decided to spend some time relaxing while us other four opted for the exciting sounding 'four island trip' thinking we'd be getting a chance to explore four islands. But no. We were picked up at 8.15 and then it was a lengthy drive up and down incredibly steep roads to get to our boat. The drive took almost an hour as we ... read more

As today is our last day in Cambodia let's reflect a little on this wonderful country. We have had a great time, people have been incredibly friendly and we've had lots of smiling faces with children waving and saying hello. There's loads to see and do and the food has been mostly good too. And all this in a country so corrupt that some of the people responsible for one of the worst genocides in history are still in government. A country still littered with landmines in places. A country where elections are so rigged that they engineered a power cut last time just before the results were announced...and suddenly then the ruling party had won again. A country where the opposition leader has to live in Korea as he will be arrested upon his return. ... read more

Another first for me today as I got to use a squat loo on a ferry! I've experienced one on an overnight train in China before and let me tell you, that was not fresh. But a squat loo on a ferry was marginally better in that there were only cubicle doors between myself and the deck overlooking the sea, so even if I had forgotten to bring my own toilet paper, it would have been OK because I would have been blown dry by the sea air. This was not the highlight of my day, but it will always be a story for parties. The morning started in Battambang, where Helen overheard another tourist on the phone, telling someone that his trip to stay in the jungle for two days had been cancelled due to ... read more

A 3 days trip worth 2 keep memories of Befor sharing my experience, let’s just discuss a little tips on a trip : Points to remember : 1.When you go for a trip, leave all your worries behind and just think of great fun that is awaiting you. 2.If you don’t belong to any Tatas or Ambanis, the most important thing to decide over before starting your beautiful trip is to decide onto its budget( which should be made keeping a broad mind ;) ), be it a small or some extravagant trip. I bet, at the end of the journey this always helps you in keeping good memories. 3. Google a hell about the place as much as to have a virtual tour itself, its attractions, things to do there, local transportation and not to ... read more
