Woke up early as our bus left at 8am and we were meet by someone from the bus company downstairs she said we were late and beckoned for us to follow her, walking the street for 10 mins we approached a very large bus and we were on our way. We were one of the first on the bus so we decided to pick seats right above the stairs as we could recline them further back without disturbing people behind us, well this was a very quick lesson learned soon after the first person ventured to the toilet which was right next to the stairs which we were sitting above did we begin to smell the stench of urine which got progressively worse as we traveled on our six our bus ride (long distance bus lesson #1 locate toilet and sit as far away from it as possible) arriving in Trat we caught a ferry over to Koh Chang island.
We had read that Magic Garden Bungalows was a cheap nice place to stay so we booked in for the night planning to stay a little longer. When we first checked in we noticed a monkey being walked around the
grounds on a meter long chain which was quiet unnerving but the monkey situation only got worse. Each evening in Koh Chang a different bar has ‘party’ night where fire twirling, bbq’s and cheap booze are promoted to get people in. We entered the bar ready for an entertaining evening and we spotted the monkey chained to a pole in the centre of bar, he was put in pj’s and a tiny bed and given plenty of food on the floor to keep him still, each time his owner left it would pull off its pj’s and try get himself off the chain. It was extremely disturbing, especially when staff from the bar threw cigarette butts at the monkey for it to ‘play’ with. Well we had enough we went to bed early and checked out first thing in the morning not being able to support such behavior. We found a lovely place to stay called the ploy inn which was cheap and relaxed so we booked in for the week.
Our days on Koh Chang were spent relaxing on the sunny beach, eating wonderful food and drinking at different bars through the evening. We meet some really great
travelers there, a couple from Oz and a guy named funnily enough Guy from Israel the 5 of us enjoyed plenty of drinks and a day on scooters to a nearby waterfall, where we had a very refreshing swim and ventured a bit further then lonely beach (where we were staying). It was great to have the freedom of a scooter, we were a little apprehensive at first to hire a scooter but since our traveling buddies were well experienced we were given some tips and we rode in the middle of the two other scooters and after 5 mins it was easy to get the hang off.
Koh Chang was great we had a very relaxing time and enjoyed all the sunshine but after a week we had, had enough so it was time to go back to Bangkok for Liam’s birthday celebrations and head north.
Missing you all!
