We have been here for five days now so we are getting brown!! We are staying in a lovely bungalow by the mountains, a ten min ride to the beach (we get a free ride whenever we want to go). It is beautiful, the sea is clear blue and the sand is soft and white. The first day we went Sea Kayaking! it was great we went around the mangroves where there used to be crocodiles but they were hunted to extinction. We stopped and fed the monkeys who swam over and jumped onto our boat!! One monkey cheekily nicked a re-chargable battery from our bag and tried to eat it i told him off and he threw it into the water! The next day we went to sunbathe in the morning, it was so hot that ... read more

A quick goodbye to the wonderful hosts at the Rattampong Hotel in Phang Nga and I was off down to Krabi.I had another weird homo moment where a lad called me Justin Timberlake in a shop and said "sexy guy" only later realised he said "sexy back" (his song) thank god. Id heard so much of Krabi, everything around there is beautiful, but at this peak season I feared it would be full. The motorbike there took in some great views until I got dropped off at some bungalows run by the sweetest muslim family. One of the young girls was the cutest thing ive ever seen,Always washing up ,making food, running about ALWAYS smiling and laughing, cheeky thing like.My mates who are 30 dont even do all that.I tried to have a little talk with her every morning to put me ... read more

Jen and I decided to get up early (ie before sunrise) to go for a run. It was still hot but much more bearable. We ran along the beachfront for a couple of miles before turning round and heading back! Having sampled plenty of Thai food over the previous week Mel, Jen and I decided we wanted to learn how to cook some of the dishes ourselves! We got picked up by taxi in the morning and were taken to someone's house for the cookery school. The house was in a beautiful setting. Upon arrival we were asked to choose 5 dishes between the whole group. We all agreed on Pad Thai, coconut milk soup, stir-fried chicken and cashew nuts, green curry and stri-fried vegetables with oyster sauce. The first challenge was to put our aprons ... read more

Well today was the day that we visited the infamous Phi Phi Islands. We had another early start... no rest for the wicked, to catch a speed boat out to the islands. One of us had the bright idea to sit at the front of the boat (it was probably Steve!). We didn't take into consideration that the water was quite rough. Fair to say I would never sit in that position again as after a few minutes I felt decidedly sick and Emma had badly grased her arm. We were chucked here there and everywhere before arriving at our first snorkelling destination just off Monkey Bay. Considering we had really been looking forward to the islands and snorkelling since we booked the trip in september it was quite disapointing. Don't get me wrong it was ... read more

It was a very early start again in order to get to Krabi, a beach resort in southern Thailand. We travel in air conditioned minibuses, a bit of luxuary! The journey wasn't too bad and we arrived at lunchtime. After finding our rooms (which all seemed to be in different hotels!) we met up with Lisa, Steve and Jen, and decided to head to the beachfront to find some munchies. The prices seemed really expensive compared to the cheap prices of the jungle and Bangkok. It also seemed to be very 'touristy'. The afternoon was spent sunbathing on the beach having bought sarongs to lie on. The sarong buying was an interesting experience as Steve managed to get us thrown out of a shop just when Jen and I had found sarongs which we really liked ... read more

I flew into the brand new but quaintly small airport in Krabi, and yet again, the Thai's somehow managed to screw up something as simple as airport signage. The design was fine, but all of the passengers went out to the airport drive only to find out that ground transport had to be reserved from inside the terminal, which required one to go back through security. No signs stating this, just one taxi company with a booth inside the terminal, and a plane full of people making a revolving door trip out to the airport drive. It was good and comical. In the end, I shared a taxi with a gal from California, and two from Australia to Au Nang beach. Remind me to book ahead in Thailand. I got there, and found nothing but overpriced ... read more

I woke today to the sound of the anchor chain being dropped. It was about 9am and we had just set anchor near Krabi on Ao Nang - a nearcby beach. A cruise ship had docked out in the harbor before us and Diane and Ray figured out a perfect plan. There was a temple here we want to see,… but to get ahead of the cruise tourists, Ray dinghied (sp?) in and set up a minivan/cab to take us up to Tiger Temple…. A buddhist temple set up in what legend claims are old tiger caves. We chow down a quick breakfast, dinghy over, and hop the cab to the temple. Now, no one mentioned til we were in the cab that Tiger Temple is a two part deal. The actual temple and surrounding grounds ... read more

After an extremely confusing day of trying to get to Krabi I got to Krabi a few mornings ago. I got lost for about an hour in Nakhon Prathom after an ill assumption but things got sorted out for the best. Ao Nang is a tourist resort-y place and it's very expensive and I am only going to spend one night here. My goal today is to find another book to read which I believe is can be attained rather easily. I feel as though I've lost my motivation to do any adventure type things but it also might have to do with the fact that i'm on a serious serious budget because i'm dead dead broke and i've just spent two days budget on a room for one night. I'ma need a job right ... read more

Saturday morning found us packed up and ready to roll again. Even though I was ultra ready and packed the night before, Sharon and Scott were ready first. Will I ever get the hang of it? I always seem to misplace something and have to unpack and repack! Oh well, practice makes perfect and Sharon has had years more experience than me when it comes to living out of a backpack! Anyway we had breakfast in Hippies Bar before heading off to the ferry to take us back to the mainland. Again Sharon and Scott way ahead as we still had to check out. Whilst doing so we secured a room for New Year's Eve as we'd decided to return to the island after saying goodbye to Sharon and Scott. As we arrived at the pier ... read more

If you're coming to Krabi in the next two weeks be warned, Ao Nang is full! Prices are high... very high! Crowds of holidaying families litter the beach (literally as well as metaphorically), the locals are unfriendly (who can blame them - so many complaining tourists) and you'll struggle to find a room below 2,000 Baht for a night! On the bright side I hear it's not so bad after high season so withold your cash for now and postpone your visit for a month. You shouldn't avoid it completely, Krabi is nice, the cliffs are spectacular, the beach isn't bad and if you go to Rai Leh (Railay) it's even better as it's quieter and more laidback or as they say in Thailand "same, same but different". We definitely made a mistake coming here without ... read more
