After our lovely few days on Phi Phi island we decided to head further east and check out the island of Koh Lanta. We left somewhat injury riddled and angry to be now outside of our air conditioned sick ward, but we pushed on and decided we would add sunburns to our list of ailments as I and many others fell asleep on the deck of the ferry without any protection from those rambunctious UV rays. Arriving on the island we quickly realized we had forgotten something, that something turning out to be a hotel booking or any semblance of a plan to stay somewhere. We fought through a couple pesky touts, one in particular who looked hopped up on amphetamines who just wouldn't shutup and we had to yell at him to beat it. We ... read more

We stayed about 2 weeks in Phi Phi since our last blog. We planned to leave everyday but we just loved the place so much so we couldn't. Went on a fabulous boat trip one of the days and visited loads of little Islands all with white sands, clear blue water and cocunut trees. We went to Maya Bay where the film "The Beach" was made, and Banmoo Island, Monkey Island and loads of others. We made our way up to viewpoint one day which is the highest point of the Island and you can look down over the bay. The view was amazing but it was hard work getting up there. There are hundreds of steps and a big steep path but it was well worth it. Other than that all we did was relax ... read more

Well hi everyone, we are now settled in Ao Nang which is down the south of Thailand about 2 hours from Phuket. We have managed to find an apartment to rent for the christmas period and have settled in nicely and we are just getting used to this chilling mode. We have rented a scooter for the month so that is our main mode of transport and its the best way to see everything, stan is getting to drive more like the thais. We hired a car for the day and took a trip to Phuket did a shop at tescos. not too much to say cos we are spending our days getting up, mooching around the shops then swimming in the sea or pool. god its such a hard life. we are thinking of you ... read more

Okay, so the heat's not so bad when you are island hopping in a speed boat, with the wind in your hair and a beer in your hand. It's even quite lovely! We got into Krabi yesterday afternoon, for a free afternoon to explore the town. I didn't see much, though, as by this time my upset belly had turned into some really nasty runs. I didn't dare venture too far from the bathroom in the hotel lobby. Lucky for me, there is an eyeglass store literally right next door, and I was able to pick out a pair of glasses without feeling the need to shit my pants. (Nice, huh?) The good news is I got a really nice pair of glasses with high quality lenses for only about $150cdn. Normally it would have cost ... read more

O.k so yes we have survived the rainforest not that there was much to survive, it was a bit like a holiday resort in the middle of the rainforest. we stayed in these house's on stilts up amongst the trees and had the best views. getting there in the first place wasn't so bad either the 12 hour train ride was actually pretty cool, firstly the seats are about twice as wide as british train seats, so my fat ass fit into it with room to spare, then there are only four people in a section so theres loads of space there. the seats then fold down into a bed and another bed pulls down from the wall and makes it like bunk beds on the train, so was very comfortable. i didn't actually get any ... read more

We are in luxury, another gorgeous hotel, with huge big spa in the room, good old Best Western, so you cant go wrong, food, pool staff are all excellent, and of course the massage, Amanda made another trip! She got a bit more pulled around this time, they cracked her neck and back too! arrrggghh! So Krabi is amazing, so picturesqe. The people arent too pushy for taxis, tuk tuks and selling. Lovely beach, the scenery of the beach is so nice, see little islands across the horizon. Food also wonderful! We had the best steaks one night, they only did fillet steak, all for a fiver, came with asparagus and carrots, and potatoes, yum yum, obviuosly we gave complimets to the chef. We ahd a truly relaxing time here, sta by the pool and chilled ... read more

DAY ONE - 19TH NOV - Ao Nang We have been propelled across a continent to meet up with Vicki, Cyril and Will and finally enjoy some warm weather and quality relaxation time. We arrive in Ao Nang at around midday and do some brief reconnaissance work on our bike that we hired as soon as we arrived. We meet the others at the lovely "Golden Sands Resort" for dinner and more catching up on things in general and any relevant political developments that we've missed while being away. It was a good re-introduction to reality for us I think as we are nearing the end of our journey and have to start thinking about life back home. After dinner the three kids head off to check out the finest night life that Ao Nang has ... read more

Deary Me, spent 3 days mooching in my hotel room, went to the doctor yesterday, not a bad experience, they seem okay on healthcare in Thailand, anyway my ilnness is a result of certain things catching up on me, such as communal living, strange diet, alcohol (I don't drink much really) too much sun, travelling etc so doc gave me strong antibiotics etc and said to stay out of the sun, eat well and get as much rest of possible for a least the next few days, so stuck in Ao Nang, at current state hope to get away and move on on Saturday, but we'll just have to see, those yellow spots at back of throat not gone yet, not hurting as much though. I'm lucky to have a good room with balcony and sea ... read more
