12/18 Woke this morning and took a no choice cold shower. We left Khao Sok and are now in Ao Nang Beach/Krabi. Spent the afternoon just walking around and hit the beach for a bit. I finally got around to calling the airline to change my flight...the earliest I can come home is jan 14...that gives me 3 nights at the end of the trip to figure something out. Thinking of maybe going to cambodia or chiang mai...not sure but would want to do some type of tour group and not be by myself. Right now I'm at the homestay. It's not too bad...pretty basic, clean, and the food was REALLY GOOD! We took a walk down to the family's catfish farm and watched them do a rubber tree tapping. I tried it and I sucked....guess ... read more

Blog number three... So, another long old journey - we've discovered now that when the locals tell you a journey takes, say, 5 hours - it's really 10 - "Thai Time" is not like Western time! So a longtail, speedboat (where we met the Bournmouth lot again!), 3 buses and a few stops in random towns on random streets waiting for the next bus later, we finally managed to make it Ao Nang. We got chatting to a guy travelling on his own on one of the buses, Damien from Manchester, who then joined up with us. Our guesthouse in Ao Nang felt like absolute luxury compared to Ko Bulon - we now had electricity, a hot shower and no weird insects and animals! We met up with the Bournemouth lot again that night. Having overspent ... read more

From Koh Phi Phi it was a 90 minute boat journey to Krabi, passing some impressive strangely shaped rocky islands near Krabi. A transfer to our hotel was included in the ticket price but they were just about to leave us stranded as the bus was apparently full, but when we gave them some grief they miraculously made space for us! We drove 5 minutes down the road where they took all the bags off the bus, then 5 minutes later loaded them all back on again and off we went!?! We stayed in a lovely boutique hotel called Thip Residence in Ao Nammao, 5 km's from Ao Nang and 15km's from Krabi. We would stay there again just for the Thai green curry and banana pancakes! Although it was a bit disturbing when we saw ... read more

Thank goodness... nothing has changed! Same people, same stores, same climbing shops, same awesome CLIMBS!!! They keep bolting, so there are more and more climbs, and not as polished as I feared. I will keep it brief because I have been here before, and you know already how much I love Thailand. No need to say much more... Enjoy the photos. Brad and Tonya just came in from Boulder and graced us with their presence. Come one climber, come all cool climbers!! Weather is cooler, and there are less mozzies. Enjoy the snow for me! Much love, Joni... read more

When we flew out of Hanoi we went on a two day mission to get to Ko Pha-ngan. We flew into Bangkok airport did a bit of shopping and eating in the MBK shopping centre and then got on a night train to Surat Thani that evening. Next morning we got a bus and then boat to return to the island where we spent a few days with Cathal and Meave for the Full Moon in November. This time we were returning to meet up with Tim and Sarah for another few nights of moon worshiping. For the first few days we went to the quite part of the island to a resort. It was quite nice but we didn’t fancy staying long as it was a bit too quiet. Instead we went booked into a ... read more

First of all, Deet is your friend. Second of all, if you rub Turmeric on your new bite, you will forget it is there, and never feel it again. Remember that. TURMERIC. Its a yellow root that is used a lot in Indian dishes. If you are in Thailand, go to a market and say, "Cumin" But in English, it is TURMERIC. It will save you, and you will be forever grateful to the G-d that made that awesome root. Amen.... read more

When we left Malaysia it was a bit of a grim day, when we landed in Thailand it was baking hot, lush green trees, clear blue skies. Welcome to the land of Smiles! We made the not that difficult decision to get a plush air conditioned taxi and sat back to enjoy the views on an interesting first introduction to the Thai style of driving. After a few Fernando Alonso stlye overtaking manouveres we were dropped off in a quaint little beach resort right outside the local McDonalds. Ao Nang seemed to be a bit more family orientated than most places in Thailand so there was a lot of nice restaurants serving all kinds of food, we settled on pizza, why change the habit of a lifetime. We went exploring down the beach which was surrounded ... read more

Okay so Matt has written a few entries and now it’s my turn! Sorry for the time it has taken to write these entries we have been traveling nonstop and as some of you may have heard we have had some issues with our travel company. Don’t get me wrong Ko Tao was a beautiful island however I couldn’t wait to leave! After being told I was unable to dive I was sick of seeing people in wet suits talking about their great time and what they had seen. We left early morning on a rather choppy catamaran and arrived at Chumpion port where our bus was waiting to take us to Krabi on the east side of Thailand. The journey wasn’t too bad, only five hours or so. We had picked a nice clean hostel ... read more

Me and Lara took a long boat trip to the island we could see from the coast in Ao Nang. It’s called Poda island. It was the most beautiful island I have ever been to in my life. There were only about 10 people on the whole island and we walked round from the main beach and we had the whole stretch of beach to ourselves! We did some snorkeling and just relaxed on the beach for the whole day. We did use sun tan lotion but we didn’t realise how strong the sun was and we both got burnt. I got burnt on the backs of my legs and my bum, it was painfull to sit down for a few days!... read more

The whole group rented a speed boat for the day and went on a 5 island boat trip. It cost quite a bit, 1000 baht, but was really worth it as it was a great day. The motorboat went really fast and I found it quite scary as it was very bumpy. Firstly we stopped in open water for some snorkeling in the shallow reef area. It was amazing, the water was perfectly clear and there we loads and loads of fish, all different shapes and beautiful colours. I got a bit jumpy after I was nibbled by one. The boat driver was throwing in pineapple which the fish loved. Then we went to Maya beach from the film “The Beach”. Even though it was packed with tourists and speed boats, it was still beautiful. We ... read more
