Well only two months left to go now. I suppose instead of writing this really i should be out buying a camera, getting some tunes on my ipod or maybe even more importantly sorting out my visa for Thailand(the first main stop after flying into Kuala Lumpur).

The last glimers of summer here today have really got me in the mood for some relaxation on the beach. Will be working my way up through Thailand before cutting through Cambodia and up along the Vietnamese coast and into Laos.

After that i have no idea where i'll end up, anyone with any suggestions feel free to chirp up? Provided they have TV coverage of the world cup i could be tempted by anywhere.

Before this weekend i had never been further north than Bangkok (when i'd spent a few months travelling Thailand i had opted for beaches over forests), so when the chance came to head off road and spend a weekend in the national parks of Isaan I thought I would have to be a fool to turn it down. I wasn't quite sure what to expect of the trip but didn't expect that I would get to the meeting site to be greeted by camera crews and a speech by someone who I assumed must have been the Thailand tourism minister. Even less expected was the police escort with lights and sirens who cleared the road abd escorted us all the way to Isaan. Our convoy of cars arrived in the early afternoon and we headed straight ... read more

We jumped onto our plane and arrived in style in Saigon, though it was a tight squeeze as the plane came down to land in the middle of a row of houses. I don't think Cuffley was enjoying it to much, apparently he isn't to keen on the idea of a plane crashing even after i comforted him about how painless it would be if it did happen. We then made the choice to get the bus to our hotel, normally this would not be such an ordeal but halfway through the journey we remembered we didn't actually know where we were supposed to be going having never been to Saigon before. Luckily the bus driver must have seen lost weirdos like us before as he stopped and helped point us in the right direction which ... read more

GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!!! Not that i have ever seen the movie that made it famous but Jimmy loves it seen as it has his favourite actor Robin Williams in it so i felt obliged to start our Vietnam tour with it. We left Cambodia and traveled along the south coast into Vietnam through a new border crossing that had only just opened up which turned out OK as it was the easiest border crossing i ever went through, there was only our coach and one lonely monk going through so no sweating in queues for hours on end. We made the short trip to the harbour where we had to catch our boat from and after somehow surviving a minor scare of falling off the wooden plank that passed for a walkway onto the boat we ... read more

After five days in the heat and dust of Siem Reap and its temples we continued on our travels and headed south towards the main beach resort in Cambodia which is Sihanoukville. The city was only formed in the 60's and has grown rapidly since then becoming both a traveler hot spot and a weekend getaway for the well to do of the Cambodian capital. The trip down was a slow one as we passed many villages and farms along the way but we made it alive and in one piece just after the sun had set. Sihanoukville is split into three main parts, Victory Beach which is the original backpacker area, is not overly developed and when we went to visit had a quiet beach and pancakes which was ideal being as it randomly happened ... read more

The main reason for being in Siem Reap (besides the fact it cost us less to come via here to south Cambodia then it would have to go straight along the coast we were already on) was to to visit the temples oif Angkor. We hired the worlds worst tuk tuk and set off to discover the eigth wonder of the world. The old saying of a picture says a thousand words is very apt here so i'll leave this short and sweet. We started the day by heading to Angkor Wat which is the symbol of Cambodia, it's on the flag, the beer, the t-shirts, in fact its on pretty much everything. It's no suprise the Cambodians treasure this as with such a turbulent recent history that they take such pride in when their forefathers ... read more

After two months in Thailand the time had come for us to move on, our visa expired on February 1st so we got in the minibus and headed north towards the border and over to Cambodia. You could notice how humid it was getting the further north we went, thank god for the air con we had even if the Germans on our bus insisted on having it on the lowest setting. Getting across the border was pretty painless apart from how long it took, i had been expecting it to be quite a bit of hassle becasue of the high tensions between the two countries over a border dispute in the area but it pretty much seemed like it was an open border for the locals going either way, usually accompanied with a trolley full ... read more

After breaking the golden rule of staying in the night before travelling it was a minor miracle that fate would wake Jimmy up half an hour before we were due to leave as our unset alarm was not going to. As it turned out we were the first people on the bus so picked our seats on the front row and tried to sleep, though this proved to be a difficult task when the couple behind us decided to turn the trip into their own mini version of High School Musical, singing every sentence. Not what you need with an early morning hangover. Koh Chang is the second largest island in Thailand after Phuket and was only discovered and brought onto the travelers itinery in the early 80s. Most of the island is covered with rainforest ... read more

I was not quite sure what to expect from Bangkok, after spending six weeks on a beach I was wandering if i really wanted to be in a crowded dirty city again but how wrong I was. We were staying on Soi Rambutri which was like a small alley with bars and restaurants and stalls selling stuff lined up on either side. Our hotel was nice enough, it had a pool on the roof which was refreshing to cool off in the afternoon sun. It was late when we arrived so we had a quick look down the Ko San Road which was just around the corner from us. This is the legendary street where most people head straight to in Bangkok once they arrive, although I am not suite sure why as it was a ... read more

As you are travelling around you hear the same places being mentioned over and over, everyone with something positive to say. Pai is meant to be the hidden gem of the north, and in the south it seems to be Koh Tao. After the stuff that had happened a few days before I was really hopeful that everyone was right about this island. We parked ourselves on the top deck of the boat, the sun was shining and already things were looking up. The boat over was great, we had some beers and everyone was in a good mood, music was on the IPOD and it turned into a little party which was as good a way as any to spend 2 1/2 hours of your life. Tao is meant to be an unspoilt quiet paradise, ... read more

Luckily for us we got a phone call the night before we were due to leave for Samui to tell us that our minibus would not be leaving till 9am now the next morning, which was good as it meant an extra hour in bed. Unluckily for us it would be a near enough 12 hours later we would arrive. It is always nice to see a bit of the country on the journey between places but this journey would take on epic proportions. We had a minibus journey with an old man driving and constantly chewing on some kind of plant that I was not completely sure what was but if I was hazarding a guess I would suspect customs would not be that happy if you brought it back to England. We had to ... read more
