If you are looking for something a bit different than ordinary boat tours in Phi Phi Islands or so you should try to Mangrove Kayaking river tour middle of the forests. The area where the trip started was called Ao Thalan, I guess all the different tours started from there so it was just up to your bargaining skills how much you end up to pay for it.. The Kayaking itself then, it was lovely and exciting. Our English speaking guides told us about the mangroves, wildlife living there and the history of the area. We also saw wild monkeys in their natural environment which were bit scary.. . Highlights were when we visited in Canyon and different bays and caves. One of the caves was previously called the crocodile cave but nowadays the name has ... read more

The flight to Phucket was heaven compared to the hours of bus journeys through Laos we had endured in the last few weeks… and we even got an in flight meal and pillows! Once of the plane it was a bus to Krabi to meet with Chloe -which after a few texts we managed somehow to locate each other…. Overly excited by our meeting up we proceeded to celebrate with a big bottle of Sangsom Rum and head to Macdonalds (shameful but you will never understand unless you have been without for 5months)… we got shamefully drunk, brought some crap from street sellers, drank lots of buckets, went to some crappy “Lazy Bar” which lived up to its name! Pilch tried to scream some obscenities down the mic before they quickly turned it off and we ... read more

Lauantaina 28. paiva saavuttiin siis turistien kansoittaamaan Ao Nangiin. Krabille saavuttiin BKK:sta yobussilla. Otettiin kyyti dosarilta kampille, Nopparat Thara- biitsille. Kyseessa on huomattavasti hiljaisempi ranta, kuin mm. suomalaisten pakettimatkailijoiden suosiossa oleva Ao Nang. Kamppa saatiin neljaan sataan per yo. Siisti huone omalla kylpparilla, n. 5 min kavelymatkan paassa rannasta. Kampille paastya kaytiin vetamassa aamupilat ja sen jalkeen nukkumaan pariksi tunniksi. ... read more

Got to Ao Nang by boat and bus on Wednesday 4th. Helped by nice Thai / Aussie couple, without whom we would probably still be stranded somewhere. May got chatted up by restaurant man, who kept calling Lynsay, Lynsay Davenport?????!!! Next day, we went on an elephant safari through the jungle and fed the elephants. Visited the Tiger Cave Temple. May climbed 1237 steps to the top to see the Big Gold Buddha on the mountain; Lynsay gave up less than half way (typical!) The mean monkeys stole our crisps from our backpack - clever buggers. Rained again for three hours. This isn't supposed to be the rainy season but we have had rain everyday until today. Killed the time by watching random films and playing cards (we know how to live it up!!) Left Ao ... read more

One night in Railay and it was another longtail boat to Ao Nang. Really nice place, great beach, but on the mainland, so a lot more to do.... Got a really good front with loads of bars and shops.... Roy lost the cables to his laptop & speakers a couple of weeks ago, so he trawled the shops looking for replacements. Apparently the ones he needs are very specific so nowhere has them. Looks like he's carrying a useless laptop round a bit further. I bought some shorts here and a T-Shirt (almost a babyape personalised one). I was warned not to bring white clothes, and i should have listened. My white shorts & T Shirt are beyond disgusting. I was walking round and must have looked like a tramp, even more so! So if you ... read more

After a completely and thankfully noneventful ferry and bus ride we arrive in Krabi. Our last "planned" part of the trip thru Thailand that we arranged with a travel agent in Bangkok. And to be technically correct here we didn't actually go to Krabi we went to Ao Nang which is a smaller beach just kilometers from Krabi proper. I liked Ao Nang and I think Kat did (she's currently sleeping in as we are tucked in a nice hotel in Kuala Lumpur and after today start "roughing it" again). Although it was kind of like Thailand's answer to Myrtle Beach there were still plenty of things to do. Lot of vendor stalls lined on the beach and lots of deals to be made although we are still skeptical to go in to souveneir mode because ... read more

When we arrived from Vietnam, the plan was to head straight to a beach to get some sun bathing time as it was important to have a decent looking tan for when we got home. First we decided to head to Koh Tao, which is a small island just off the east coast that’s known for it’s diving and beautiful beaches. We got a night bus (again!!) down to the port where the ferry leaves. It arrived at 4am, two whole hours before we could catch a boat to the island (why do they do that?). Eventually we set off and arrived into Koh Tao at around 10:30. Accommodation wasn’t cheap but eventually found a scummy looking place that fitted our budget - remember we don’t have much money left so we are trying to be ... read more

Hello From Thailand! From Clark (Phillipines) we flew to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), a four hour flight, with nothing to eat or drink except two donouts each =), which we managed to buy at the airport for our last phillipino money. Our plan was to catch the night train from Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai in Thailand the same evening (14 hours), but we had been unable to buy a train ticket, so we didn't fancy our chances. We arrived at the train station later then we had expected because apparently there are two airports in KL (we didn't know), one for expensive flights and one for cheap flights (like with Ryanair). We landed on the cheap flight airport which was not connected with the airport express train, so we had to take the bus to the ... read more

We ended up booking a snorkeling trip from Trang to go the Emerald Cave which is something we've been looking forward to since the beginning. It was a bit expensive but worth it. Our boat was pretty big. They told us there were 200 people booked on the same trip the day before so they had to use 3 boats and our trip had 9 people which was great. It wasn't crowded at all and we met some nice Thai families. The view was awesome. Huge cliffs that jut out of the water and little rock islands that are narrower on the bottom than the top. Caves dotted the cliffs and bats hung from branches everywhere. They took us to 4 islands to snorkel which was amazing. We saw tons of fish and coral and the ... read more
