This experience today warranted a short blog entry. I arrived at lunch famished, ready to dig into the tasty lunch box that awaited me. I was even excited about the soup today, there was no seaweed, red beans or dead fish floating around in it. I was excited that was until i arrived at my seat at the table and saw what was there. In addition to my lunch box with chicken, veggies and rice these was a box of.......CHICKEN FEET! Are you kidding me? Did they really think I was going to eat them. I tried to ignore them the whole time I was eating lunch but they were just staring at me waiting for the inevitable. Just seeing them made me lose my appetite. So I made it thru most of lunch and as ... read more

- Check out the video of Mary and me. So I have seriously slacking in blogging and emailing but I have not done much since I went to the beach for Thanksgiving. Due to my parents demands that I save my money and the fact that I want to spend a whole lot in Hong Kong this weekend! I have been keeping busy here on the weekends. One of the third grade teachers has taken me in as her own daughter. Her daughter is my age and she is currently applying to go to grad school in the states. She just applied to OSU! I have spent friday nights and sunday afternoons with them. I feel like a part of the family. She even brings me chopsticks to lunchs just like she does for her ... read more

ok so i'm just a few days late with the sports day update but ive been lazy and tired this week, go figure. well sports day was interesting to say the least. leading up to saturday the student practied every day and the teachers got gifts! Sports day falls around the time of the schools birthday and it is part of the celebrations. for my gifts i received a lamp and a paper weight. note about the gufts here they are always practical, so much for something really cool. i got to school at 8:15 and headed out to the field and on my way out kids were screaming at me, hellos and good morning. i think they were excited to see me outside of class at such a big event. once i got to the ... read more

Well, I am so bored today I decided to blog. Wednesdays I only have half days so I came home after lunch and accidentally feel asleep for 5 hours. oopps, guess I wont be falling asleep for a while. I have exhausted every option of online tv watching and theres only so long one can spend looking at myspace and facebook over and over again. i even decided to shave my legs since i had nothing better to do. when i complained to my mom of my boredom deliema she said isnt there something to do in your town....well i told her unless i wanted to go play pool by myself, go to the casino by myself, go shopping or go eat, NO there is nothing to do here. although i could stalk the cram schools ... read more

So I have been very lazy and I have not blogged in a while. Things have been very busy here and I have been tired and sick. Over the past 2 weeks I have traveled to Kaohsiung to visit Mary and into Taichung city with a group of friends. When I was down in Kaohsiung Mary and I did lots of shopping and eating. Unfortunatly it was raining so we couldnt sightsee very much. But we did ride her scooter in the rain! We had to purchase these really cool raincoats and masks. We even looked like locals once we put our helmets on! This past week I purchased my very own scooter! I now i have a way to get around my town without walking. I am excited to explore the different things in town. ... read more

Well I will start off with what went on today at school then I can share about my sweet weekend with the gang! So this week marks when I start teaching classes. To start the day we had a stupid staff meeting. I honestly do not see a point in being there since I understand nothing. During the meeting I counted the flowers on the tree outside, there were 14, i counted them about 50 times during the 40 minute meeting, waste of my time. After the meeting I headed to my first third grade class. They were so cute and very smart. I think they are smarter than the sixth graders. I was incharge of reviewing the alphabet and the sounds of the letters, rough! At the beginning of each class the students had a ... read more

Today was the first day of school. Oh how I am going to love Wednesdays, only 3 classes then we are done and can leave! This school system rocks. While many of the kids go straight to cram school for another 7 hours of school, teachers get to go home and sleep and do whatever. To start the day I had to introduce myself to the entire school body, I thought I would puke from being in front of 2000 students and teachers. After I said "Hello" the pricipal spoke about me and who the heck knows what she said but for the rest of the day I was surrounded with students. I felt like a movie star! They all new my name and were waving. One of English teachers gave her students homework to talk ... read more

So on Sunday I finally got out of this boring town and head to Taichung City. After an hour long scary bus ride, I am suprised I am still alive, people drive SOOO crazy here. I might even be suffering from whiplash! Well I had a note I had to give to the bus driver so I could get dropped off at the right place. That's right folks, I, a 23 year old independent woman had to have a note. Well anyways I got off the bus where he told me to and I freaked out. I had no idea where I was and I have no phone. So like any typical Taiwanese street there was a 7-11 right across from me. So I carefully crossed the street and made a call to my coteacher to ... read more

I am slowly adjusting to my new life here in Taiwan. I know it will take some time but things will get better. I have been able to talk to people today and I am feeling like I am not alone anymore. As I was surfing the net reading things I realized that 5 years ago today I was a naïve college freshman moving into the dorms and saying goodbye to my family. Never in a million years would I have imagined I would be where I am today. Currently I am approximately 9000 miles away from what I have known as home for my entire life. I am in a culture so dramatically different from the one I have come from. As I think about all the college freshman starting school and all of my ... read more
